Installation of a Sharp ZU1 Wall-Mounted Mini Split in Nun's Island
Discover the energy-efficient Sharp ZU1 mini-split heat pump, expertly installed by AirGreen on Nun’s Island. Perfect for Quebec winters, this system offers air purification, smart control, and top-notch reliability.

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.

Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
Sharp ZU1: The Smart Choice for Energy Efficiency and Comfort
At AirGreen, we take pride in every installation, ensuring that our customers benefit from both comfort and energy efficiency. This recent installation on Nun’s Island (Île-des-Sœurs) showcases one of the best choices on the market today: the Sharp ZU1 Wall-Mounted Mini Split, boasting 15,000 BTU of heating and cooling power. With Quebec’s unpredictable weather and the coldest months dipping to -27°C, this machine is designed to keep homes cozy without breaking the bank.
Why the Sharp ZU1 is Perfect for Nun’s Island Homes
Our team at AirGreen installed this Sharp ZU1 in a beautiful home on Nun’s Island. Known for its modern architecture and serene landscapes, Nun’s Island is home to many families and professionals who demand a balance between comfort and sustainability. With rising energy costs and the push for environmentally friendly solutions, the Sharp ZU1’s energy efficiency and modern features make it an ideal fit.
Key Features of the Sharp ZU1 Heat Pump:
- Cooling Capacity: 15,000 BTU, perfect for large living spaces.
- Heating Capacity: Operates effectively down to -27°C, ensuring warmth even in Quebec’s harsh winters.
- Energy Star Certified: This heat pump meets the highest efficiency standards, helping homeowners save on energy bills.
- WiFi Connectivity: Full control over your system from your smartphone, allowing real-time adjustments no matter where you are.
The Installation Process: Craftsmanship Meets Efficiency
At AirGreen, we take every detail into account to ensure a seamless installation process. For this particular project, our technicians faced a challenge due to the limited space in the backyard, but they executed the job perfectly, ensuring the outdoor unit was placed in a location that maximized both efficiency and airflow while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the home.
Our installation process also included mounting the indoor unit in a central area of the home, allowing for optimal air distribution. This Sharp ZU1 mini-split is equipped with Coanda airflow control, meaning it provides even temperature distribution without uncomfortable drafts. Thanks to Plasmacluster technology, the air inside the home stays clean and purified—removing allergens, mold, and even odors.
Why Sharp ZU1 Stands Out
One of the most attractive features of the Sharp ZU1 is its eligibility for the LogisVert Grant from Hydro-Québec, with a rebate of up to $2,172, making it the most cost-effective choice for 15,000 BTU systems in the province. The grant makes a big difference for homeowners looking for both high-quality performance and financial savings.
With the Sharp ZU1, customers receive a heat pump that’s not only budget-friendly but also packed with advanced features like its R-32 refrigerant, which is 10% more energy-efficient than older models using R-22. This refrigerant significantly reduces the unit’s environmental impact while also saving on electricity.
Benefits of the Sharp ZU1:
- Environmentally Friendly: The use of R-32 refrigerant cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions.
- Quiet Operation: With an exterior sound pressure level of 49 dB(A) and an interior level as low as 23 dB(A), this unit operates almost silently.
- Long-Lasting Durability: The anti-corrosive coating and multi-drainage system ensure a longer life, even in extreme weather conditions.
Air Purification: A Unique Advantage of Sharp
The Plasmacluster feature is one of the most unique selling points of the Sharp ZU1. This technology reproduces nature’s air purification process, neutralizing airborne viruses and bacteria, mold spores, and even household odors. For anyone suffering from allergies or simply wanting cleaner indoor air, this system goes beyond what standard mini-splits offer.
Imagine walking into a space where the air feels fresh and free from pollutants. That’s exactly what the Sharp ZU1 delivers. For families on Nun's Island, this has been a game-changer, especially during the winter months when homes are sealed off from fresh outdoor air.
Handling Quebec Winters Like a Pro
The winters in Quebec can be brutal, with temperatures plummeting far below freezing. The Sharp ZU1’s Hot Gas Pipe System and advanced defrost features ensure that the unit continues to work efficiently, even at temperatures as low as -27°C. This allows homeowners to enjoy consistent heating, while other systems might falter in extreme cold.
We’ve seen how the Sharp ZU1 outperforms many other units in the market when it comes to operating in these extreme conditions. The multi-drainage system also prevents water from freezing in the compressor, ensuring that the unit continues to function optimally through every season.
Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
At AirGreen, we are committed to promoting energy efficiency and sustainability. The Sharp ZU1 Wall-Mounted Heat Pump is at the forefront of this mission. Not only does it boast an impressive 24.0 SEER rating, but its inverter technology also ensures that the system adjusts its power consumption based on the room’s temperature—keeping energy bills low without compromising on comfort.
The inverter technology allows for variable-speed operation, so the Sharp ZU1 doesn’t waste energy by constantly turning on and off. Instead, it runs continuously at lower speeds, maintaining a consistent temperature and using up to 30% less energy compared to non-inverter models.

And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
