BLACK+DECKER tankless water heaters: the right size depends on your cold water
Four sizes, from 18 to 36 kW at 240 V. A tankless heater warms water as it flows through: the colder the incoming water, the lower the hot-water flow. Move the slider to see the effect on each model.

At 208 V, the same heater delivers less heat
The manuals give the power at 240, 220 and 208 V. A heating element puts out less heat when the voltage drops: at 208 V, each model keeps about three quarters of its power. The actual voltage in your home is measured; an electrician confirms it.

Before the flow: the current
At full power, these heaters draw 75 to 150 A at 240 V. Pick a model and your home’s electrical service (printed on the main breaker) to see the share it takes.

Home electrical service
The BD-27-DWH can draw 112.5 A, or 56% of a 200 A service.
What the manuals require
- Installation and service by a licensed electrician: otherwise the warranty is void.
- The manufacturer also recommends a qualified plumber.
- Working water pressure: 7 to 150 psi.
- The heater starts as soon as 0.5 gpm of water flows.
- Setting from 30 to 50 °C, one degree at a time; 48 °C suggested.
- No gas and no venting: the heater is electric and wall-mounted.
For your quote request
Three details help choose the right size:
- the amperage of your electrical service (on the main breaker);
- the voltage, if you know it;
- the planned location and what it will supply (showers, kitchen, washer).

Questions about BLACK+DECKER water heaters
Which size should I choose for my home?
It depends on three things: the temperature of the incoming water, how many taps and showers run at once, and the voltage in your home. The calculation at the top of the page shows the effect of the first two; the quote accounts for all three.
Why does the flow drop in winter?
The heater has a fixed power. When the incoming water is colder, it has to be heated more to reach the same temperature, so less of it is heated each minute.
What flow does the manufacturer advertise?
3.7 gpm (18 kW), 4.68 gpm (24 kW), 5.3 gpm (27 kW) and 6.1 gpm (36 kW), on its product pages, with no temperature rise stated.
Is my electrical panel big enough?
The heaters draw 75 to 150 A at 240 V. Only a load calculation by an electrician, under the Canadian Electrical Code, can answer for your home.
What happens at 208 V?
The power drops to about 75% of the 240 V rating (manuals), so the hot-water flow drops too.
What is the warranty?
The warranty document gives 7 years against leaks and 2 years on defects, from the purchase date. The product pages also advertise 5 years on the heat exchanger, a term the document does not include.
Does the warranty follow the house if I sell it?
No. It covers the original owner only; a change of ownership ends it.
Is labour covered?
No. The manufacturer replaces the heater or the part; labour and shipping are not covered.
Is it eligible for LogisVert or ENERGY STAR?
No. ENERGY STAR excludes electric resistance water heaters and LogisVert lists no water heater among its measures (checked Oct. 14, 2026).
Does it need gas or venting?
No. It is an electric, wall-mounted heater; it needs water and electricity.
At what flow does the heater start?
At 0.5 gpm of flowing water, according to all four manuals.
What temperature should I set?
The range is 30 to 50 °C and the manufacturer suggests 48 °C. The BD-36 manual gives a 60 °C maximum in its English section, but 50 °C in French and Spanish.
Who makes these heaters?
They are imported by Paragon Group USA (Englewood, New Jersey), which uses the BLACK+DECKER brand under licence.
