06 · Frequently asked questions
No. Baseboards run on 120 or 240 V, and Google excludes all of its thermostats from high-voltage systems. Baseboards need an electronic thermostat built for that voltage.
Yes, if it is controlled at 24 V. The Learning (4th gen) handles O/B, auxiliary (AUX) and emergency (E) heat. The Nest Thermostat handles one stage plus auxiliary or emergency heat, but Google then requires a C wire or the Power Connector.
With the Learning (4th gen), Google says a C wire or the Power Connector is needed in less than 1% of cases. With the Nest Thermostat, it is required on a heat pump, a zoned system, a heat-only or a cool-only system.
No. Google states that the Nest Thermostat is not compatible with any Nest temperature sensor. The sensor works with the Learning (3rd and 4th gen) and the Nest Thermostat E.
Up to 6 per thermostat and 18 per home, according to Google. The sensor links to the thermostat over Bluetooth Low Energy, within about 15 m, and runs on a CR2 battery.
The Nest Thermostat is enough for a simple 24 V system. Choose the Learning (4th gen) if you want sensors in other rooms, need to control a humidifier or ventilation, or have three heating stages.
Yes, if your home is heated by a central natural gas system from Énergir: $100 per thermostat on the PEE-104 list, up to 75% of the price, applied for with Énergir within 30 days of purchase. Hydro-Québec offers no rebate for Nest thermostats, and LogisVert does not cover thermostats.
No. Hilo states that its solution is not compatible with Google Nest devices.
Yes. Google lists French, English and Spanish for the Learning (4th gen) and the Nest Thermostat.
According to Google: 2 years for the Learning (4th gen) sold at retail, 1 year for the Nest Thermostat, 1 year limited for the sensor.
Since October 25, 2025, Google no longer supports the 1st and 2nd gen Learning thermostats in its apps. The device keeps its schedules and on-device controls, but has no remote control or updates.
No. Google states that the feature is available in Canada except in Québec.
