Énergir dual-energy grant for businesses: up to 80% of the extra cost covered

Two energies heating the same building: electricity most of the time, and natural gas as backup in extreme cold, from -12 °C or -15 °C depending on the region. Énergir estimates that about 70% of gas heating moves to hydroelectricity this way: the right energy at the right time.

Énergir business customers in the commercial, institutional or multi-unit sector (20 units or more), heated with natural gas by a central forced-air or hot-water system. The building must have been heated with gas for at least 12 months. Buildings already heated by electricity or dual energy, and buildings on an industrial site, are excluded.

Up to 80% of the extra cost: the difference between the estimated cost of the dual-energy project and the estimated cost of an all-gas replacement. Simplified path: up to $250,000 per application and per site. Custom path, with an OIQ engineer: up to the lowest of $250 per tonne of CO2e avoided over 10 years, $3M per application and $6M per site.

Not to do the work. To get the grants, you sign a dual-energy contract with your Énergir sales representative or one of its partners, before installation. AirGreen is not a certified Énergir partner: it provides the quote, the spec sheets and the documents for its part of the work.

Not for the same heat pumps: Solutions efficaces excludes those submitted to the dual-energy stream. Énergir, for its part, refuses aid from organizations other than Énergir, Hydro-Québec and the Government of Québec. Get Hydro-Québec to confirm (1 800 463-9900) before filing.

Hydro-Québec, at no cost to you, if its distribution grid needs adapting. The work inside your building (new panel, dedicated meter, mast) is an eligible expense when it serves the switch to dual energy.

Hydro-Québec’s small and medium power dual-energy rate for space heating, from October 1 to April 30. From May 1 to September 30, prices are those of the base rate (G, M or G9). A separate meter is required and the commitment is at least 10 years. Gas stays at your usual rate.

Yes: four of the six examples published by Énergir are hydronic. The hot-water loop (electric boiler, air-to-water heat pump) is the work of a contractor holding RBQ subclass 15.4; AirGreen does the electrical work.

Yes, with conditions: the building must have access to Énergir’s network and be about to be connected. An expansion or a major renovation may also qualify. Talk to an Énergir representative.

This is not the program: Énergir’s dual energy only converts natural gas. The ÉcoPerformance “oil or propane conversion” stream pays up to 75% of eligible costs, with an application filed before the work (1 866 266-0008).

48 months after Énergir confirms the grant, plus up to 12 months in exceptional circumstances. Careful: the file must be submitted no later than 30 days after the first invoice (or the first purchase order on the custom path).

The professional in charge sends the compliance certificate to the electricity distributor. Énergir may then inspect for 12 months: if the system is not installed or configured as required, the grant must be repaid immediately.
