In the Montreal area, many homes and businesses still run on Halcyon units installed years ago, made by Fujitsu, the manufacturer now called GENERAL, and they still give full satisfaction. The day their wall controller is damaged or misplaced, or when you simply want to swap the infrared remote for a fixed control, the GENERAL AIRSTAGE UTY-RNBYU wired wall controller is the part intended for these units. It is the same part as its Fujitsu AIRSTAGE version: Fujitsu General Limited only changed its name, becoming GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026. It connects to previous-generation 3-wire Halcyon and AIRSTAGE indoor units and gives them back a complete, programmable and readable control.

Following the manufacturer's acquisition by Paloma Rheem Holdings, the GENERAL name is gradually replacing the Fujitsu brand, but the factories, the AIRSTAGE products and the model numbers remain identical, and the same part circulates under both names during the transition. At AirGreen, an authorized dealer for both brands, this GENERAL controller and the same part under the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE brand are interchangeable.

Programmable, and built for 3-wire networks

The UTY-RNBYU accepts several families of indoor units: the ASU18CL and ASU24CL wall-mounted heat pumps, the ABU18/24RULX and ABU36RSLX ceiling units, the ASU30RLX wall-mounted unit and the AUU18/24/36/42RCLX cassettes. The ASU7, ASU9 and ASU12RLF1 wall-mounted units accept it as well, provided the UTY-XCBXZ2 interface kit is added. This list is not a detail: the manufacturer's controllers do not cross over from a 2-wire network to a 3-wire network, and we always check the exact model of your unit before ordering.

A weekly timer that goes further

What sets the UTY-RNBYU apart is its weekly timer. It does more than start and stop the unit: depending on the day and time, it can also switch from one mode to another and move the setpoint temperature. Moderate heating at night, back to comfort in the morning, a lower setpoint during working hours: it all happens without you having to think about it. An on/off timer and a temperature setback function round out the package.

On the control side, you get the Auto, Cool, Dry, Fan and Heat modes, four ventilation settings (High, Medium, Low, Auto) and horizontal as well as vertical airflow adjustment. The setpoint runs from 60 to 88 °F, and the LCD shows it in °F or °C, your choice. An economy operation mode is also on the menu.

Built-in sensor and child lock

The UTY-RNBYU houses an ambient temperature sensor. Installed at occupant height, it reads the temperature where you live, and not at the ceiling or near the indoor unit's coil. For a ceiling unit or a cassette, whose internal sensor sits up high, where warm air builds up in winter, the advantage is very real. As for the child lock, it blocks unintended changes, which people appreciate in a child's bedroom, a waiting room or a commercial space.

Its place among the manufacturer's controllers

The UTY-RNBYU belongs to the family of 3-wire controllers, along with the UTY-RVNUM, which has a large, backlit multilingual screen, and the UTY-RSNUM, a simplified model without weekly programming. The 2-wire controllers, such as the KAGAMI UTY-RVRU or the UTY-RSRYZ1, are intended for more recent AIRSTAGE units. In short, if your unit appears on its compatibility list and you want complete weekly programming on an existing Halcyon unit, the UTY-RNBYU spares you from replacing a system that works well.

Installation and commissioning by our technicians

Our technicians note the indoor unit's model number, check the existing wiring or pull a new cable to the chosen location, add the UTY-XCBXZ2 kit when the unit requires it, then mount and connect the controller. Because the exact power supply and wiring vary with the indoor unit, we validate them on site against the manufacturer's documentation. Once commissioning is complete, we program the weekly timer, the setpoints and, if needed, the child lock with you.

Comfort and savings in winter

A heat pump works more efficiently with stable setpoints and moderate setbacks than with full shutdowns followed by abrupt restarts. The UTY-RNBYU's weekly timer is made for exactly that: applying measured reductions at night and during absences, then returning to comfort at a set time. And since the temperature is read by the built-in sensor, at occupant height, there is no longer any need to overheat the room to make up for a reading taken at the ceiling.

Here is what a typical week can look like: the unit switches to moderate heating at ten at night, returns to the comfort setpoint at six in the morning, lowers again during the day if the house is empty and comes back up one hour before the family gets home. The weekend follows a different schedule, which starts later in the morning. Our technicians program these schedules with you just once; after that, the controller fades into the background, apart from an override now and then. In spring and fall, Auto mode takes over when the days swing between cool and warm.

Maintenance

Clean the indoor unit's filters regularly, and even more so in the middle of the heating or cooling season. For the screen, use a soft, dry cloth, and never spray cleaner directly on the housing. Do not place a lamp, a television or a piece of furniture against the controller either: the built-in sensor would read a distorted temperature. If the power has been out for a long time, take a look at the time and the timer programs. At the annual maintenance visit, our technicians also check the built-in sensor's reading.
