Plenty of rooms get along just fine without weekly programming or a colour screen. In a bedroom, an office, a suite or a meeting room, what you want is a clear control: on, off, mode, temperature, ventilation. The GENERAL AIRSTAGE UTY-RSRYZ1 simple wall controller does exactly that, with the bonus of the safety alerts that set this new version apart: refrigerant leak notification and the sensor replacement alert. Under its GENERAL name, it is the same part as the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE UTY-RSRYZ1, as Fujitsu General Limited has gone by the name GENERAL Inc. since January 1, 2026.

Bought by Paloma Rheem Holdings, the manufacturer has changed neither its factories, nor its AIRSTAGE products, nor its model numbers. The Fujitsu name is quietly stepping aside for GENERAL, and in the meantime the part can be found under both names: at AirGreen, an authorized dealer for both brands, you can take this GENERAL model or, if you prefer, the same part under the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE brand.

Simplicity, plus safety alerts

On the equipment side, the UTY-RSRYZ1 works with 2-wire AIRSTAGE H-Series indoor units as well as with TLAV, TLAV1, TLAV2, KSA1 and KSA2 DRV (VRF) systems. It connects directly to units that are not wall-mounted (ducted units, cassettes, ceiling units), including those of multi-zone systems. A wall-mounted unit requires the UTY-TWRXZ2 communication kit. Each controller can run up to 16 indoor units, and this model takes over from the former UTY-RSRY.

On the power side, there is nothing to plan for: the controller draws its current from the indoor unit, over the same 2-wire link that carries the communication. No battery and no transformer.

The essentials, done well

Its large backlit LCD screen reads effortlessly, in broad daylight as in a dark room. The buttons give access to on and off, mode selection and automatic heating/cooling changeover (Auto Changeover), fan speed and a setpoint that adjusts in 1 °F steps. The vertical louvre setting directs the air downward in heating and horizontally in cooling.

Thanks to the built-in temperature sensor, the reading is taken at occupant height rather than at the indoor unit. The setpoint range limits are selectable: the owner or manager sets the lowest and highest temperatures that occupants can ask for. Finally, the test run function simplifies commissioning and maintenance visits.

Refrigerant leak and sensor: clear alerts

If there is a leak, the UTY-RSRYZ1 displays a refrigerant leak notification backed by audible and visual alerts: buzzer, error icon on the screen, flashing backlight and LED indicator. It also indicates when it is time to replace the associated sensor. You can then react quickly and call a technician, instead of discovering a drop in performance after the fact. In bedrooms and small closed rooms, it is a welcome extra layer of protection.

Which AIRSTAGE controller to choose

For the 2-wire network, the manufacturer has planned three different approaches. The KAGAMI UTY-RVRU relies on the colour touch screen and the weekly timer for living spaces. The UTY-RNRUZ5, also a touch screen model, targets managers with its service menu and restricted access. The UTY-RSRYZ1 gets straight to the point: no programming, but every control you need day to day, with a built-in sensor and the safety alerts on top. Its close cousin, the UTY-RHRYZ1, goes as far as removing the mode choice, for hotels and common areas. For a wall control that requires no learning at all, the UTY-RSRYZ1 is the one we recommend.

It suits owners of a ducted heat pump who prefer a fixed control to a remote, condos equipped with a multi-zone system where each bedroom has its own control, and offices where you want to stick to basic functions. For seniors or people who are not comfortable with technology, its real buttons and readable screen make all the difference. And the wired format does away with the remote that gets lost, or whose batteries give out at the worst moment of the winter.

Installation by the AirGreen team

We start by confirming the model of your indoor unit and, if it is a wall-mounted unit, we add the UTY-TWRXZ2 kit. Our technicians then pull the cable to the controller's location and choose a height representative of the room, so that the built-in sensor reads an accurate temperature, before connecting and mounting the housing. Then come the test run, a check of the automatic changeover and, with you, the setting of the setpoint limits. If several units report to the same controller, the group is configured and tested.

Winter comfort and savings

In spring and fall, when Québec days go from cool to warm, the automatic changeover spares you from switching by hand between heating and cooling. In winter, stable setpoints and a reliable temperature reading at occupant height let the heat pump run steadily, which serves both comfort and efficiency. In rental units and offices, the setpoint limits put a stop to excesses.

Maintenance

Clean the indoor unit's filters regularly and wipe the screen with a soft, dry cloth. If a refrigerant leak alert or a sensor replacement alert appears, contact us so that a qualified technician can check the unit. Never attempt to work on the refrigerant circuit yourself.
