Getting an AIRSTAGE wall unit to talk to a 2-wire controller

Your GENERAL or Fujitsu wired wall controller is chosen, the KAGAMI colour touch screen for example, and your AIRSTAGE wall-mounted heat pump is waiting for it. One go-between still has to be planned for the two to talk: the GENERAL AIRSTAGE UTY-TWRXZ2 communication kit. In practical terms, the kit installs a connection terminal block in the unit: that is where the cable of the wired controllers' 2-wire network comes in. To compare, see the same part under the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE brand: apart from the GENERAL name, nothing separates this kit from the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE UTY-TWRXZ2. The double name comes from a simple change of corporate name: on January 1, 2026, Fujitsu General Limited became GENERAL Inc., after being acquired by Paloma Rheem Holdings. The manufacturer, the factories, the AIRSTAGE range and the model numbers have stayed the same. Over the course of the transition, the Fujitsu name is fading in favour of GENERAL, and AirGreen, an authorized GENERAL and Fujitsu AIRSTAGE dealer, offers the part under either name.

On an AIRSTAGE ducted unit, cassette or ceiling unit, these controllers generally connect with no go-between. The wall unit is the exception: it was designed first for the infrared remote, and the UTY-TWRXZ2 adds the wired connection it does not have from the factory.

Controllers concerned

To connect any of the following controllers to a wall-mounted unit, the kit is mandatory:

1. the KAGAMI UTY-RVRU, whose colour touch screen measures 4 in.;
2. the whole UTY-RNRUZ touch-screen family;
3. the UTY-RSRY(Z) simple models, the UTY-RSRYZ1 included.

On the unit side, it installs notably on the ASUH09/12LPAS, ASUH18/24LPAS1 and ASYG07-14KGTA wall units, as well as on the LMAS and LZAS models. As for how it connects, that varies with the circuit board type inside the indoor unit; it is a check our technicians make before installation.

A wired controller on a wall unit: what it changes

For many people, the infrared remote does the job. The wall controller nonetheless has real strengths. You always find it in the same place, it needs no batteries, and nothing forces you to mount it facing the unit: the entrance to the room works just fine. And depending on the model, it comes with a weekly timer, setpoint limits, safety alerts or a temperature sensor placed at occupant height. Condo, child's bedroom, office, rental suite: everywhere, these functions lighten the occupants' daily routine and prevent many wrong moves.

During the heating season, a well-built weekly schedule slightly lowers the setpoint during the night and absences, then raises it again at the right moment; as a result, the heat pump runs more steadily and consumption drops over the season. Without the UTY-TWRXZ2, none of this is available on a wall unit.

That leaves choosing the controller, based on what you expect from it. On the looks side, the KAGAMI UTY-RVRU stands out: colour screen, status light ring, weekly timer. Owners and managers who insist on detailed schedules and restricted access turn instead to the UTY-RNRUZ touch screens. For the essentials, with no frills, the UTY-RSRYZ1 offers a built-in sensor and refrigerant leak alerts. Whichever one you pick, the link with the wall unit goes through the same UTY-TWRXZ2, and depending on the model, a single controller can run several indoor units.

Be careful not to confuse it with the UTY-TWBXF1: that other kit from the manufacturer is for the ASU RLS2 and RLS3 designer wall units and 3-wire controllers. One does not replace the other; it is the combination of unit and controller that points to the right one.

From kit to controller: our commissioning

First of all, our technicians note the wall unit's model and confirm the circuit board type as well as the compatibility of the chosen controller; the UTY-TWRXZ2 is then installed in the unit. Next come the 2-wire cable to the controller's location, mounting the controller on the wall and powering back up, followed by a test of the communication and of every function. Since the kit and the controller go hand in hand, we always offer them as a pair: you get a complete, compatible package from the first visit.

Maintenance

No maintenance is planned for the kit. The wall unit, for its part, still needs clean filters and one inspection a year.
