A flat controller that blends into the room

You look at your wall controller every day, so it might as well stay out of the way. The GENERAL AIRSTAGE UTY-RSNUM and the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE UTY-RSNUM are one and the same part (see the same part under the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE brand). On January 1, 2026, Fujitsu General Limited became GENERAL Inc. following its acquisition by Paloma Rheem Holdings: same manufacturer, same factories, same AIRSTAGE products and same model numbers. While the Fujitsu name is gradually phased out in favour of GENERAL, the part is sold under both names, and AirGreen is an authorized GENERAL and Fujitsu AIRSTAGE dealer.

The first thing you notice is the housing. Its flat back, with no bulge, sits tight against the wall, and at 4-3/4 x 2-15/16 in. with a depth of only 9/16 in., it all but disappears on a finished wall. That understated housing takes nothing away from the everyday functions of your 3-wire heat pump: they all stay at your fingertips. It suits the homeowner who wants to trade the infrared remote for a fixed control, the property manager looking for something easy to explain to occupants, and anyone who prefers a few clear buttons to an endless menu.

Which GENERAL or Fujitsu units it works with

The UTY-RSNUM talks to the indoor unit over a 3-wire link. It works with all 3-wire floor units and with some wall-mounted units. The ASU RLS2 and RLS3 designer wall units (ASU9, ASU12 and ASU15) also need the UTY-TWBXF1 interface kit to accept the connection. Since not every wall unit accepts it, we always start by checking the exact model number of your unit before suggesting it.

What you adjust day to day

All five of the unit's modes are available directly: Auto, Cool, Dry, Fan and Heat. A few presses are enough to adjust the temperature or switch from one mode to another, and the backlit LCD reads easily in a dark bedroom or in a basement where light is scarce.

Two functions make maintenance simpler. If something goes wrong, the error code display gives you a code to read to us over the phone: our technicians interpret it on the spot, the diagnosis moves faster and, more often than not, we can plan the right part before we even head out. As for the filter indicator light with reset, it signals when to clean the indoor unit's filters, a small bit of upkeep that protects both efficiency and air quality.

Then there is group control: a single controller runs several indoor units with the same settings. Picture a large basement heated by two floor consoles, or a commercial space where several units serve the same area: one box is enough.

Where the UTY-RSNUM fits in the range

Among the manufacturer's 3-wire controllers, the UTY-RVNUM offers a large multilingual screen, a weekly timer and setpoint limits per mode, while the UTY-RNBYU combines a weekly timer and a built-in sensor for other previous-generation units. The UTY-RSNUM takes the opposite approach: simplicity and discretion. No programming here, but everything people actually use day to day is there, and its housing is nowhere near as wide as the square controllers in the family. When the household routine is steady and you like to adjust the temperature yourself as needed, it is a very good choice.

On recent AIRSTAGE systems, which communicate over 2 wires, the equivalent simple controller is the UTY-RSRYZ1. The two networks do not mix: the indoor unit dictates which controller to install.

It looks right at home in a bedroom, a home office or a living room where a bulky box would clash, and in rental units, where a simple control cuts down on tenant calls. In the basement, next to a floor console, it puts an end to the remote that invariably ends up wedged between two sofa cushions.

Installation, setup and follow-up by AirGreen

The work starts with noting the indoor unit's model: that is what tells us whether an interface kit is needed. The 3-conductor cable is then run to the chosen spot. The UTY-RSNUM's flat back lets it mount cleanly on a finished wall, with no protruding box. Power and wiring are confirmed on site against the manufacturer's documentation for your unit. Before leaving, we run through each mode, test the filter light reset and, when several units are linked, group operation.

Saving energy in winter

A simple control does not stop you from using your system efficiently. Count on a few habits: at night, a setpoint a degree or two lower; in spring, no needless back-and-forth between cooling and heating; in the shoulder seasons, Auto mode; and all year long, clean filters. With a heat pump, stability remains your best ally: small adjustments beat abrupt shutdowns and restarts when it is bitterly cold.

Maintenance in four steps

1. As soon as the filter light comes on, clean the filters and reset the light.
2. Write down any error code on the display before you phone us.
3. A soft, dry cloth is all you need to clean the controller; avoid any liquid product.
4. Once a year, have the indoor unit and the outdoor unit inspected.
