REC modeRecirculation mode with a wall control
With a main wall control, the unit can recirculate air within the house. This mode works with a fully ducted (T-1) or exhaust-ducted (T-2, T-3) installation, but not with the simplified T-4 or T-5 hookups.
Plus modeAdjustable defrost: Discretion or Plus
Defrost starts at −5 °C. The factory Discretion setting defrosts without changing fan speed, for comfort; Plus mode extends defrost for colder regions. An extra 10 min defrost is added every 5 cycles.

In cold weather, a motorized damper closes the outdoor air intake and recirculates indoor air through the core to thaw it. The house doesn't go into negative pressure during the cycle: no cold air drawn in through leaks, and none of the imbalance manufacturers warn about when there's a fireplace or a combustion appliance.
ERVIt moves moisture too, not just heat
An ERV transfers some moisture between the two airstreams. Useful in a house that gets too dry in winter or takes on a lot of humidity in summer. The trade-off: it generally recovers less heat than a comparable HRV.
