GENERAL AIRSTAGE AMUG30LMAS 30,000 BTU Electric Furnace (30LUAH1M System): the Extra-Low-Temperature Heat Pump, With Electric Backup in Reserve
If your electric furnace still heats the whole house on resistance, the 30LUAH1M system flips the roles: the heat pump becomes the main source of heat, and direct electric heat is only there as backup. The AMUG30LMAS multi-position air handler goes on your ductwork in the furnace’s place; outside, the AOUH30LUAH1 unit gathers the heat. Fujitsu AIRSTAGE sells this combination under the same numbers. The manufacturer is the same: it simply adopted the name GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026, and neither its spec sheet nor its warranty has changed one bit.
On the cold side, it is one of the manufacturer’s extra-low-temperature systems. It heats down to −26 °C, it is ENERGY STAR certified and recognized as cold climate by ENERGY STAR, and Hydro-Québec has listed it for LogisVert: the list of October 27, 2026 assigns it a grant of $2,592.
The manufacturer also thought about the job site. The electric backup heat kit comes from the manufacturer and is installed on site, inside the unit, and the downflow and horizontal right kits come with every air handler at no additional cost. When the house dictates where the old furnace sits, those details make the difference.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
The group that has owned Rheem since 1988, Paloma Rheem Holdings, completed the purchase of Fujitsu General Limited in August 2025. The company then took as its corporate name a name it had already been using on its products since 1946: GENERAL Inc. It has not moved from Kawasaki, Japan, either for its head office or for its research and development; its factories, its AIRSTAGE model numbers and its warranty program have not been touched.
Canadian sales have been entrusted to Rheem Canada since February 2026, and Groupe Master remains the supplier we order from. The Fujitsu labels will disappear gradually. Until then, we keep both pages online, and the following table lines them up row by row.

Its twin under the Fujitsu name is the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE 2.5-ton electric furnace, with identical values.
Three kits surround this air handler, and each has its job:
- the downflow kit, provided at no cost, for a unit installed upstairs or in a closet, which then blows the air downward;
- the horizontal right kit, also provided at no cost, to lay the unit down in a crawl space when height is short;
- the electric backup heat kit, which comes from the manufacturer and is installed on the job site, inside the air handler: it is the one that takes over the role of your furnace’s elements, but in second place.
In most basements, the unit stands upright, in upflow, in the furnace’s exact spot. Its cabinet measures 21 × 21.69 × 42.5 in., its coil is all aluminum, and the manufacturer calls for a minimum of clearance on three sides plus 21 in. in front of the cabinet for service.
Winter is then shared between two sources. As long as the heat pump keeps up with the house’s demand, it heats alone: it does the main work. When the cold deepens and the house loses more heat than the outdoor unit supplies, the kit joins in to close the gap, without replacing the heat pump. The system heats down to −26 °C; below that, the electric backup takes the whole load.
For an electric furnace owner, the most telling figure is still the COP. Heating elements return one unit of heat per unit of electricity. AHRI certificate 207657376 gives the 30LUAH1M a COP of 3.03 at the −8 °C test point, where the published capacity is 21,600 BTU, and still 1.76 at the −15 °C point, with 33,000 BTU. Each of these points has its own test conditions, and we report them as published. The heating season is summed up by an HSPF2 of 9.7; in cooling, SEER2 reaches 18.8 and EER2 stands at 11.7. The manufacturer’s nominal capacities: 32,000 BTU/h of heat, 28,600 BTU/h of cooling.
The $2,592 amount is the one the list gives, but Hydro-Québec has the final say on eligibility. For your file, note two references: AHRI certificate 207657376 and ENERGY STAR ID 2409932.
Your ducts keep their role. The AMUG30LMAS moves up to 870 CFM and tolerates high static pressure, which can reach 1.0 in. WC; its fan motor follows an adaptive control. Before confirming the size, we check the ductwork and the return air, since air conditioning, which the old furnace never offered, needs the air to reach the upstairs rooms properly. On sound, the indoor unit sits between 25 and 39 dB(A), and the outdoor unit is rated at 53.0 dB(A).
An outdoor unit expected to heat in deep cold needs air around it. The AOUH30LUAH1 measures 38.19 × 14.56 × 39.31 in.; we raise it on a pad or a bracket away from the eavestrough, and keep its sides free of any hedge or fence.
The replacement follows this order:
- visit: condition of the furnace, the plenum, the return air and the grilles, choice of the outdoor location;
- removal of the electric furnace and installation of the AMUG30LMAS in the required position, with the mounting kit it needs;
- installation of the electric backup heat kit in the unit;
- cable, drain and the two tubes of the refrigerant line, 3/8 and 5/8 in., outdoor pad or bracket, 208/230 V supply and filter access panel;
- commissioning: a refrigeration technician checks how the heat pump operates as well as the backup.
The outdoor unit and the air handler form a fully communicating heat pump. Wi-Fi control is optional, as is the external input/output interface used for interlocking with third-party systems. AirGreen installs this system as an AIRSTAGE Elite Plus installer.
To last, this system mostly asks to be left room to breathe: a filter replaced before it clogs, a clean coil, an outdoor unit never buried under the snow from shovelling. On the warranty side, the compressor and parts get 12 years, labour 6 years. For rating tables and dimensioned drawings, the manufacturer’s bilingual documentation comes with the unit.
The 30LUAH1M is especially suited:
- to houses heated by an electric furnace that want to hand most of the winter over to the heat pump;
- to owners for whom ENERGY STAR certification, cold climate recognition and a LogisVert listing are part of the requirements;
- to houses whose load calculation points to 2.5 tons, a calculation we do during the visit.
Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac and the North Shore: replace your electric furnace with the 30LUAH1M
In Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, we start in the basement, in front of the furnace: position, plenum, return air, electrical panel. Then, outside, we locate the spot for the outdoor unit. Your free quote then specifies the chosen configuration, the kits used and the LogisVert amount listed for the system.
