GENERAL AIRSTAGE AMUG24LMAS 24,000 BTU Electric Furnace with Heat Pump (24RGLXM System): the Direct Replacement That Adds Air Conditioning
This electric furnace heats with a heat pump first, not with elements. The 24RGLXM system pairs two units: the AMUG24LMAS, a multi-position air handler that takes your old furnace’s place on the ductwork, and the AOU24RGLX outdoor unit, running on R-410A. It is exactly the machine sold under the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE name, with the same model numbers. Since January 1, 2026, its manufacturer has gone by the corporate name GENERAL Inc. instead of Fujitsu General Limited; the spec sheet and the warranty have not changed by a single line.
The situation is a classic. The electric furnace in the basement is reaching the end of its life, the ducts are sound, and since the unit has to be replaced anyway, you want two things the old one could never do: cool the house in July and heat with something other than resistance for a good part of the winter. The 24RGLXM covers both by connecting to the air distribution you already have.
Candour first, because it changes the math: the 24RGLXM carries neither ENERGY STAR certification nor cold climate recognition, and Hydro-Québec has not listed it for LogisVert. Its outdoor unit heats down to −21 °C; on colder nights, the electric backup carries the house.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
The name comes with a new owner: since August 2025, Paloma Rheem Holdings (Rheem’s parent group since 1988) has held the former Fujitsu General Limited; the corporate name GENERAL Inc. followed at the turn of 2026. Otherwise, nothing has moved. Kawasaki is still home to the head office and R&D, the same factories build the same AIRSTAGE units, and those keep their numbers as well as their warranty coverage. Rheem Canada has run the Canadian sales side since February 2026; we still buy from Groupe Master.
While the transition lasts, the same unit circulates under two labels. So that two quotes can be compared without ambiguity, we publish both pages and the table below, value by value. This system also appears in our catalogue as a “central heat pump.”

Under the Fujitsu name, the same furnace is presented on the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE 2-ton electric furnace page.
What stays, what changes and what gets added when this system replaces your electric furnace:
- the ductwork stays in place with its grilles and its return air, once checked during the visit;
- the AMUG24LMAS usually takes over the old furnace’s spot, in the basement, a mechanical closet or a crawl space, connected to the current plenum or to a rebuilt one;
- the AOU24RGLX outdoor unit is added outside, on a pad or a bracket, linked to the air handler by a cable and by the refrigerant line (3/8 and 5/8 in.);
- electric heat moves from the old furnace’s elements to the electric backup heat kit, which the manufacturer provides and we install on site in the air handler.
The real change is in how heat is produced. An electric furnace turns each kilowatt-hour into the same amount of heat, no more, no less. A heat pump instead moves heat captured from the outdoor air into the house, which lets it deliver more energy than it consumes. The manufacturer rates the system at 27,000 BTU/h in heating and 24,000 BTU/h in cooling, at nominal conditions. When the house asks for more than the heat pump supplies, the backup kit joins in to make up the difference; below −21 °C, it heats alone.
On efficiency, AHRI certificate 205123807 gives the system an HSPF2 of 9.2, a SEER2 of 17.6 and an EER2 of 11.7. Two cold-weather readings appear as well, each taken at its own test point: 18,700 BTU of heating at −8 °C, then 19,800 BTU at −15 °C, where the COP is 1.80. That COP means that at −15 °C, every kilowatt-hour consumed still returns 1.80 in heat, where the old furnace’s elements returned just one.
Let us put it in black and white: the 24RGLXM is not one of the manufacturer’s extra-low-temperature models, and during cold snaps the electric backup will take up more of your winter. If you are counting on Hydro-Québec’s help, or if the heat pump needs to hold on as far into the season as possible, we will price a LogisVert-listed system alongside it.
In summer, on the other hand, the AMUG24LMAS cools the whole house through the grilles that used to blow the furnace’s heat. Its all-aluminum coil also pulls humidity out of the air, and the water runs off through a drain.
Ductwork designed for an electric furnace was not always sized for air conditioning, which often needs more air. The air handler offers a maximum airflow of 800 CFM and handles static pressure of up to 1.0 in. WC, a high value; its fan motor has adaptive control. That margin does not replace an adequate return: during the visit we check the return, the ducts and the grilles, and you know before installation whether a correction is needed.
The air handler adapts to the old furnace’s position, not the other way around. It is truly multi-position: upflow in the basement, downflow in an upstairs closet, horizontal in a crawl space. The manufacturer includes the downflow and horizontal right kits with each unit at no charge. At 42.5 in. high, 21 in. wide and 21.69 in. deep, it needs minimum clearance on three sides and 21 in. clear in front for service.
On site, AirGreen, an AIRSTAGE Elite Plus installer, removes the furnace, sets the air handler on the plenum, installs the backup kit, runs the refrigerant line, the cable and the drain, connects the 208/230 V supply and provides an access panel for the filter. A refrigeration technician then commissions the complete system.
Outside, the outdoor unit, rated at 55.0 dB(A), measures 35.44 × 13 × 32.69 in.; we set it on a pad or a bracket, away from snow sliding off the roof and from bedroom windows. Indoors, the air handler runs between 25 and 37 dB(A).
On the control side, the heat pump and the air handler talk to each other in fully communicating mode. Wi-Fi is optional, as is an external input/output interface for interlocking with third-party systems; the control is chosen with you at the quote stage.
Maintenance stays within your reach: a filter checked often, since the fan now runs in summer as well as winter, a clear drain, an outdoor unit kept free of snow. Twelve years of warranty on the compressor and parts, six on labour. Detailed ratings and dimensioned drawings are all in the manufacturer’s documentation, supplied in French and English with the product.
This replacement makes sense if:
- your electric furnace has to be replaced and your ducts are in good condition;
- central air conditioning matters to you as much as heating;
- you accept relying on the electric backup during the deep cold and doing without a grant.
