The Capacity That Serves an Entire Floor

At 18,000 BTU, the GREE Crossover R32 moves into a different category. Airflow increases to 883 CFM, more than double that of the 12,000 BTU model, and it is this figure - not the BTU capacity - that determines how many rooms a single unit can actually serve. A network of ducts supplying four or five grilles requires airflow before it requires cooling capacity.

This is the capacity we recommend for an open-concept main floor, a cottage floor with three bedrooms, or a fully finished basement. The indoor unit extends to 44.48 x 29.69 x 11.81 inches while retaining the same height as the smaller models, which matters: a longer concealed duct unit is often easier to fit than a thicker one.

The Certified Figures

AHRI Certificate 216618231, ENERGY STAR Listing 4514336.

  • 22.5 SEER2, the best cooling efficiency in the Crossover lineup
  • 14.0 EER2 at full load
  • 9.0 HSPF2 in heating
  • At -8 °C: 14,700 BTU/h, COP of 2.3
  • At -15 °C: 15,000 BTU/h, COP of 1.9
  • Down to -30 °C: 9,900 BTU/h at maximum capacity

At -15 °C, the unit retains 83% of its nominal capacity. That is the statistic that matters for an entire floor: it means the system continues to carry the main load during the coldest week of January, with supplemental heating remaining supplemental.

The Rebate

This model qualifies for Hydro-Québec's LogisVert program for up to $1,764 for the owner of an existing home, and it is designated as cold climate, which provides access to the program's bonus. The amount is confirmed using Hydro-Québec's official tool when we prepare your application, because the eligible list and amounts change depending on the installation date.

Static Pressure, Where Projects Succeed or Fail

A high-static-pressure concealed duct unit can push air through a real network: straight runs, elbows, branches, grilles, and filters. A low-pressure concealed duct unit cannot. The distinction becomes decisive at this capacity, because this is where we begin serving remote rooms.

In our experience, what causes an 18,000 BTU installation to fail is almost never the unit. It is an undersized network: flexible ducts that are too long, consecutive 90-degree elbows, and insufficient return grilles. The result is immediately apparent - the back bedroom remains warm, the unit whistles, and the bill goes up. We calculate the system's pressure loss before installation rather than after the first service call.

Dehumidification and Summer Comfort

3.80 pints of water per hour. On an entire floor, this is what allows you to maintain a 24 °C setpoint comfortably rather than having to lower it to 21 °C to compensate for excessive humidity. Every degree avoided represents real savings during July and August.

Noise

Indoor unit at 24 to 40 dB(A) - the low setting is the quietest in the entire Crossover lineup, despite the higher capacity. Outdoor unit at 59 dB(A), which requires a little more attention to placement than the smaller models: away from bedroom windows, on anti-vibration mounts, and never in a corner where two walls reflect the sound.

Installation Data

Outdoor Unit

37.72 x 15.83 x 25.98 inches, with a 1/4 - 5/8 inch connection. The gas line increases to 5/8, which means different copper tubing from the 9,000 and 12,000 BTU models - an important detail if you are considering reusing existing piping. In almost every case, we recommend replacing it: R-32 and R-410A do not use the same oils.

Power Supply

220 V, 16 A MCA, 20 A MOP. We check the panel's available capacity when preparing the quote. In a triplex or a 1950s house with a 100 A panel that is already heavily loaded, this check avoids an unpleasant surprise on installation day.

Refrigerant and Warranty

R-32 is an A2L refrigerant with low global warming potential. Our teams are trained and equipped for this class. The manufacturer's warranty covers the compressor and parts for ten years, with an extended labour warranty available.

Our Service Area

We work in Montréal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore, and the South Shore. For a project of this capacity, we always visit before providing a quote: the duct layout, available ceiling height, and condensate drain location cannot be determined from a photo.

Send us the floor plan for the area to be served, or simply the dimensions and number of rooms. We will get back to you with a load calculation, a duct layout, the confirmed rebate amount, and an installed price.
