The best heating efficiency in the entire range, in the smallest format
The 9,000 BTU GREE Extreme R32 boasts an HSPF2 of 9.5. This is the highest figure among all the GREE R-32 ducted systems we distribute, including higher capacities. In Quebec, where the heating season lasts seven months and the cooling season three, this is the rating that should guide your purchase - and it is almost always the one people look at last.
HSPF2 measures the number of BTUs of heat delivered per watt-hour consumed over an entire season, including real-world conditions: defrost cycles, partial cycles, and average temperatures. In other words, it incorporates everything a single-point rating overlooks.

A COP of 2.84 at -8 °C means that one kilowatt-hour purchased from Hydro-Québec becomes 2.84 kilowatt-hours of heat in the room. The same energy in an electric baseboard heater produces one. This is the ratio that determines annual savings, and it holds for most hours of a Montreal winter, when temperatures spend far more time around -8 °C than at -25 °C.
Extreme or Crossover at the same capacity
The question comes up with every quote. Both ranges share the same indoor unit and duct dimensions; they differ in the outdoor unit. At 9,000 BTU, the Extreme leads on all three ratings - SEER2 of 22.3 versus 22.0, EER2 of 14.3 versus 14.2, and HSPF2 of 9.5 versus 9.2 - and delivers 100 more BTU/h at -8 °C.
The difference is not spectacular, and we will not pretend otherwise. It becomes significant over ten years of heating seasons, and it costs almost nothing to obtain. On the other hand, the Crossover performs better at -15 °C at this specific capacity: 9,500 BTU/h versus 9,200, with a COP of 2.16 versus 1.8. If your area is exposed and poorly insulated, this last figure may change the recommendation. We make the decision based on the load calculation, not the catalog.
What this model will not do
It is not currently on the list of appliances eligible for LogisVert. All three 9,000 BTU models in the ducted range are absent, across all series. We verify eligibility using Hydro-Québec's official tool when preparing your file because the list changes, but we would rather tell you upfront than let you build a budget around assistance that will not arrive. If the rebate is essential for you and the load allows it, the 12,000 BTU model from the same range is eligible for $1,236.
The format, which is often the real reason to buy
The indoor unit measures 32.67 x 29.69 x 11.81 inches. The outdoor unit, 34.38 x 14.80 x 21.84 inches, connects with 1/4 - 3/8 inch lines - the smallest piping in the range, which simplifies drilling and routing along the facade.
220 V power supply, 11 A MCA, 15 A MOP, values recorded on the outdoor unit. A 15 A circuit can almost always be added without touching the panel.
Quiet operation and humidity
From 24 to 38 dB(A) indoors, and 55 dB(A) outdoors. Maximum airflow of 412 cu. ft./min and removal of 1.69 pints of water per hour. For a bedroom or office, the low point of 24 dB(A) matters more than the maximum: it is the speed at which the unit spends most of its time when properly sized.
R-32 and warranty
R-32 replaces R-410A with a global warming potential approximately three times lower. The manufacturer's warranty covers the compressor and parts for ten years, with an extended labour warranty possibly available.
