GENERAL AIRSTAGE J-7S Mini-VRF 24,000 BTU with 3 indoor units for the professional office: three rooms, three controls, a refrigerant under watch

The GENERAL AIRSTAGE J-7S in this configuration and the twin Fujitsu AIRSTAGE are one and the same machine: AOUK024SSAN7 outdoor unit and 3 indoor units. Since January 1, 2026, the manufacturer has been called GENERAL Inc.; the manufacturer's brochure, the model numbers and the warranty have not changed.

This product page is aimed at the professional office set up in a former apartment: a reception room at the front, two closed offices at the back, plaster walls, no ductwork. Notary, accountant, psychologist or small agency, each person works behind a closed door and does not share the next person's idea of the right temperature. Hence the formula: three indoor units, one wired controller per room, a single outdoor unit behind the building.

Since the rooms are occupied all day by staff and clients, refrigerant safety is part of the conversation too. The J-7S range answers it with hardware, not with slogans.

GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine

The GENERAL name is nothing new: the brand has been in use since 1946. The company, founded in 1936, marks the 90th anniversary of its founding in 2026 and now sells its products under that name, after Paloma Rheem Holdings, owner of Rheem since 1988, acquired Fujitsu General in August 2025. Head office and R&D centre in Kawasaki, factories, AIRSTAGE products, model numbers, warranty program: everything stayed in place.

The Fujitsu brand is leaving the market gradually and, in the meantime, the same unit exists under two names. Sales in Canada have gone through Rheem Canada since February 2026, while Groupe Master remains our distributor. So you can compare without second-guessing, we keep both product pages online, lined up in the table.

A J-7S mini-VRF is a variable refrigerant flow Heat Pump outdoor unit feeding several indoor units, each one set on its own. The AOUK024SSAN7 accepts up to 5; this office uses 3, which leaves a little room if a meeting room is added one day, provided the total capacity allows it. The range's indoor units and accessories only connect to J-7S outdoor units.

The type of unit is chosen room by room, at the visit. In a former apartment, three families come up:

  • the wall-mounted ASUA***KSA1, from 4,000 to 14,000 BTU/h, the simplest to install in a closed office, and as quiet as 22 dB(A) in quiet mode, which matters during a client meeting;
  • the slim ducted ARUL***KSA1, from 4,000 to 18,000 BTU/h and 198 mm high, which can hide in a bulkhead or a closet to serve the reception unseen;
  • the compact cassette AUUA***KSA1, only if renovations put in a standard suspended ceiling, with its built-in condensate pump.

The capacity of each unit is also set at the visit, so that the total respects the 2-ton outdoor unit. We promise no combination before we have seen the rooms.

On control, the office logic is simple: each occupant sets their own room. A wired remote controller on the wall of each office, a wired touch remote controller at reception if you prefer it, a wireless remote as a backup. For whoever locks up at night, the optional central controllers (system controller, touch panel controller, central remote controller) let you manage all three units from one point. Wi-Fi is among the options.

Now, the refrigerant. R-32 has a low global warming potential, the series holds 12% less of it than the previous generation, and the charge of one system does not exceed 6 kg (13.2 lb). Around that charge, the range provides several layers of protection:

  • a built-in leak detection sensor in the ducted units, meaning the slim ducted and the multi-position air handler;
  • an optional leak detection sensor kit for the wall-mounted unit and the cassette;
  • an optional gas sensor kit, with audible and visual alarm;
  • an optional refrigerant shut-off valve kit, with backup power.

Which options to keep depends on the units chosen and on how each room is used; we go through them with you at the visit, one by one, rather than selling you a standard bundle.

This system's efficiency is in the table: SEER2 of 22.2, HSPF2 of 11.3 and EER2 of 15.7, values equal to the J-7S series maximums according to the brochure. At the −8 °C test point, the heating capacity shown is 17,400 BTU, and the COP at −15 °C is 2.44. The manufacturer's spec sheet, in French and English, comes with the product for anyone who wants to dig deeper.

In deep cold on the North Shore, the J-7S heats down to −26 °C with no low-temperature lockout, according to the brochure cover, and 2-ton units deliver up to 89% of their capacity at −18 °C. When the heat sets in, cooling remains reliable up to 50 °C outside. On certification, it carries the ENERGY STAR cold climate designation, ID 3813049.

Installation starts with the outdoor unit's location. At 998 mm (39-5/16 in.) high, it fits below a window; it goes on a ground base or a bracket, with minimum clearances reduced compared to the previous generation. In a heritage area like Vieux-Terrebonne, a visible outdoor unit location may need checking with the City: we bring it up at the visit. Then comes the route of the refrigerant piping, the cable and the drains to the three rooms, within the series limit of 120 m (393 ft) of total piping, and the 208/230 V power supply, with an MCA of 19 A and a maximum overcurrent protection of 20 A. A refrigeration technician then commissions all three units.

For maintenance, the wall units' filters come out from the front; a hidden ducted unit needs an access panel for maintenance and the filter. AirGreen can handle maintenance of the system and schedule it around your office hours.

Hydro-Québec lists the outdoor unit under AHRI number 216372779; on its LogisVert list of October 27, 2026, this system is tied to an amount of $2,088. For an office, check the program's conditions, including the type of building that qualifies, before counting on that amount. The system is covered by the manufacturer's 12-12-6 warranty, expressed in years for the compressor, parts and labour.

This configuration is for professionals set up in a converted house or apartment: three zones, closed rooms, occupants who do not want to negotiate over the thermostat, and an owner who wants clear answers on safety.
