GENERAL AIRSTAGE J-7S Mini-VRF 24,000 BTU with 5 indoor units, the maximum: the three-storey townhouse, between wall units and a cassette
This GENERAL AIRSTAGE configuration pushes the AOUK024SSAN7 outdoor unit to its maximum: 5 indoor units. It is the same machine as the twin Fujitsu AIRSTAGE. The manufacturer only changed its name to become GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026; the manufacturer's brochure and the warranty stay the same.
Picture it in a three-storey townhouse: finished basement, open ground floor, bedrooms upstairs, neighbours on each side. Wall-mounted units in the bedrooms and the living room, a compact cassette in the basement's suspended ceiling, and a single outdoor unit in the backyard.
Five units on 2 tons is a precision exercise. Each capacity is chosen at the visit so the total respects the outdoor unit, and there is no room left for a sixth unit later. Better to know that before signing.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
Fujitsu General Limited and GENERAL Inc. are the same company, before and after January 1, 2026. In between came the acquisition by Paloma Rheem Holdings in August 2025; that group has owned Rheem since 1988. Kawasaki remains the head office and R&D centre, the factories have not changed, and each AIRSTAGE product keeps its model number and its warranty program.
Since the Fujitsu brand is being phased out, the same machine circulates under both names for now. In Canada, Rheem Canada took over sales in February 2026, and AirGreen keeps going through Groupe Master. The table compares the two product pages, cell by cell.

Under the Fujitsu brand, this 5-zone system has its own Fujitsu AIRSTAGE J-7S page.
A J-7S mini-VRF links a variable refrigerant flow Heat Pump outdoor unit to several indoor units chosen one by one, each with its own setting. On this model, the ceiling is five. Units and accessories are specific to the J-7S: they work with no other outdoor unit. In a townhouse, the floor-by-floor split often looks like this:
- upstairs, ASUA***KSA1 wall units in the bedrooms, offered from 4,000 to 14,000 BTU/h, as quiet as 22 dB(A) in quiet mode, with 6 fan speeds and auto swing louvers;
- on the ground floor, a wall unit for the living room and kitchen, or a cassette if a suspended ceiling is already there;
- in the finished basement, an AUUA***KSA1 compact cassette in the standard suspended ceiling, offered from 4,000 to 18,000 BTU/h, whose built-in condensate pump lifts the water, a real advantage below ground level;
- if a room lends itself better to a bulkhead, the ARUL***KSA1 slim ducted unit, 198 mm high, remains an option.
Sizing is the heart of this configuration. The brochure's compatibility table provides indoor units of 4,000, 7,000, 9,000, 12,000, 14,000 and 18,000 BTU/h for wall units, cassettes and slim ducted units, depending on the family. With five units connected to a 24,000 BTU outdoor unit, the small capacities come into their own. We measure each room, take orientation and floor into account, then choose each unit; no combination is promised in advance. If the calculation shows the house needs more, the same series offers the 3-ton AOUK036SSAN7, which accepts up to 9 indoor units.
This system's values are in the table: SEER2 of 22.2, HSPF2 of 11.3 and EER2 of 15.7, the last one being the most telling on heat-wave days. All three match the maximums announced for the series. At −15 °C, the listed COP is 2.44. The product comes with the manufacturer's spec sheet, written in French and English.
A three-level house does not heat like a bungalow: heat rises, the basement stays cool. Having one unit per room makes it possible to set each floor separately. On the winter side, the AOUK024SSAN7 benefits from what the brochure announces for 2-ton units: up to 89% of their capacity at −18 °C, and heating with no low-temperature lockout down to −26 °C. And when summer hits hard, cooling stays reliable up to 50 °C outside, again according to the brochure. The system holds ENERGY STAR cold climate certification (ID 3813049).
A three-storey installation calls for a well-thought-out route. The main refrigerant piping is 3/8 and 5/8 in., and the series allows up to 120 m (393 ft) of total piping; we put forward no other length before seeing the walls, the closets and the possible passages between floors. The outdoor unit, 998 mm (39-5/16 in.) high, goes on a base in the yard; its reduced minimum clearances help in a narrow yard, and, with a 54 dB(A) sound level, it is placed with the neighbours' windows in mind. At the panel, plan for 208/230 V, an MCA of 19 A and a maximum overcurrent protection of 20 A. Commissioning the five units is a job for a refrigeration technician.
With five units on the same R-32 circuit, the refrigerant question comes up often. This refrigerant has a low global warming potential, the series uses 12% less of it than the previous generation, and the maximum charge of one system is 6 kg (13.2 lb). The wall units and the cassette accept an optional leak detection sensor kit; the slim ducted unit has its sensor built in. Optionally, a gas sensor tied to an audible and visual alarm can be added, along with a refrigerant shut-off valve equipped with backup power.
Five rooms, five possible controls: wireless remotes in the bedrooms, a wired remote controller or wired touch controller in the living room and the basement. A touch panel controller near the entrance can also group the whole house, and Wi-Fi is optional.
Five units also mean five filters. The wall units' filters come out from the front, the cassette's through the ceiling grille. AirGreen can handle maintenance of the whole system, outdoor unit included.
For Hydro-Québec, the outdoor unit carries AHRI number 216372779; the LogisVert list of October 27, 2026 pairs this system with a grant of $2,088, subject to the program's conditions. The warranty is 12-12-6, meaning compressor, parts and labour in years.
This configuration suits the townhouse or two-storey home that wants five well-separated zones with a single unit outside, and an owner who accepts tight sizing rather than eyeballing.
