GENERAL AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 300 9,000 BTU in 115 V: the Wall-Mounted Heat Pump that connects without a 240 V circuit, for a bedroom or office in Rosemont or Hochelaga

In many Rosemont and Hochelaga apartments, the electrical panel makes the decision. It is full or it is old, and the idea of adding a 240 V double-pole breaker to it is enough to push the project back a year. The GENERAL AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 300 9,000 BTU answers that exact case: it runs on 115 V, the voltage of the home's ordinary outlets, with a minimum circuit ampacity (MCA) of 14 A and a maximum overcurrent protection (MOP) of 20 A. No 240 V circuit to run, no panel to replace for a single bedroom or a single office.

And to remove any doubt right now: this wall-mounted heat pump is the same machine as the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 300, with the same indoor unit ASLH09KNAS, the same outdoor unit AOLH09KNAS1 and the same AHRI certificate 215422283. Fujitsu General Limited, which builds it, has carried the name GENERAL Inc. since January 1, 2026; the certified values are identical, and so is the warranty: 12 years for the compressor, 12 years for parts and 6 years for labour.

GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine

What you are buying comes out of the same factory as before. Fujitsu General was acquired in August 2025 by Paloma Rheem Holdings, owner of Rheem since 1988, and Fujitsu General Limited took the name GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026. The head office and the research and development centre stayed in Kawasaki, Japan; the factories, the AIRSTAGE line, the model numbers and the warranty program did not change. The GENERAL name itself has been in use as a trademark since 1946; the company, founded in 1936, marks the 90th anniversary of its founding in 2026. For the Canadian market, Rheem Canada has been selling the equipment since February 2026, and Groupe Master remains the distributor we buy from.

Since the Fujitsu brand is being phased out and the same heat pump circulates under both names during the transition, we publish both pages. The table below puts them face to face, value by value, so that you do not have to take our word for it.

115 V, in practice. A 208/230 V wall-mounted heat pump requires a dedicated two-pole circuit at the panel. This one makes do with a 115 V circuit protected at 20 A; that is the kind of circuit a licensed electrician adds or frees up on an existing panel without changing the panel itself. In a Rosemont plex where the upstairs unit's panel is already tight, that detail is often what separates a simple installation from electrical work that changes the budget.

A compact indoor unit for a closed room. The indoor unit measures 30.31 in wide by 8.56 in deep and 9.81 in high, which lets it fit between the top of a window and the ceiling of a plex bedroom. Its 365 CFM of airflow is scaled to a closed room, not to a double living room. The vertical louver is automatic and sweeps up and down; the horizontal louvers are set by hand, once, toward the side of the room where you want the air to go. At low speed, the unit runs at 20 dB(A), which makes it a good candidate for a bedroom; at full speed, 41 dB(A). The outdoor unit runs at 46 dB(A), a low level for an outdoor unit, which matters on a shared balcony.

Summer. The SEER2 of 17.0 and the EER2 of 10.55 measure the cooling delivered per unit of electricity, over the season for the first, at the hottest point of the day for the second. They are not the highest figures in our catalogue, and we will not tell you otherwise; they are those of a unit designed to be simple to connect, and for a normal-sized bedroom or office they do the job: the room drops to the setpoint, the humidity of an August evening follows, and the air conditioning modulates once the temperature is reached instead of stopping and restarting.

Winter, with the real numbers. The heating values come from NEEP, the cold-climate heat pump database, under AHRI certificate 215422283. At −8 °C, the unit delivers 5,200 BTU/h with a COP of 2.63: each unit of electricity becomes 2.63 units of heat, where a baseboard gives one. At −15 °C, it delivers 6,800 BTU/h, 76% of its nominal size, with a COP of 2.12, and that is the heating limit guaranteed by the manufacturer. Its certified minimum capacity goes down to 1,400 BTU/h at −15 °C and 3,100 BTU/h at 8 °C: in a small room, that is what lets it idle without cycling. In mild weather, it keeps a reserve of 12,400 BTU/h at 8 °C, 38% more than its nominal size. The HSPF2 of 9.0 sums up heating efficiency over the season; the higher it is, the less you consume for the same heat. Read this model as main heating in the shoulder seasons and supplemental heating in winter: from fall down to −15 °C, it carries the room and costs far less than the baseboard; below −15 °C, the baseboard takes over, and it has to stay.

Certifications and grant, no detours. This model is not ENERGY STAR certified and it is not on the list of heat pumps eligible for Hydro-Québec's LogisVert program, according to the list of October 27, 2026. So we promise you no assistance. Its argument lies elsewhere: the 115 V and the simplicity of the connection. If you have the choice between this model and a subsidized model that requires a 240 V circuit, we put the two quotes side by side, electrical work included, and you decide.

The installation in a plex. No ductwork, a single hole in the wall for the refrigerant line, the cable and the drain. In a Rosemont or Hochelaga apartment, here is what our refrigeration technicians settle first:

  • The wall unit: high on an exterior wall, ideally the rear facade, oriented so the air travels along the ceiling and not toward the bed or the screen.
  • The outdoor unit: on a wall bracket on the rear wall or on the balcony, raised above the snow, away from the neighbour's bedroom windows, with room for air and defrost water. On the front facade, borough bylaws can limit the options; we check that before proposing a location.
  • The refrigerant line: insulated 1/4 and 3/8 in copper, protected by a line cover, with the minimum of bends.
  • The drain: by gravity to the outside; in an upper-floor unit where the slope will not work, we plan for a condensate pump in the quote.
  • Electrical: a 115 V circuit protected at 20 A, connected by a licensed electrician.
  • Start-up: nitrogen leak test, vacuum, start-up, supply-air temperature check and louver adjustment with you.

Maintenance and filters. The indoor filters come out without tools and go under warm water; in a plex apartment on a busy street, they load up with dust quickly, and regular rinsing keeps the airflow and efficiency at their certified level. Outside, clear the unit after each snowfall. An annual visit by a refrigeration technician checks the R-32 refrigerant charge and cleans the coil and the drain pan.

Who it is for. The bedroom or office of a plex apartment or a condo in an older building, where the panel leaves no room for a 240 V circuit and where you want cooling in summer first and economical heating down to −15 °C. For a double living room, a whole floor or heating without a baseboard in deep cold, we will propose another model.
