GENERAL AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 300 9,000 BTU: the first Mini Split Heat Pump of an all-electric Laval home, under Fujitsu's new name
Order it under the GENERAL name or under the Fujitsu name: the box holds the same indoor unit ASUH09KNAS, the same outdoor unit AOUH09KNAS1, the same AHRI certificate 217505655 and the same warranty. The GENERAL AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 300 9,000 BTU is the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 300 9,000 BTU, built by the same company, which has been called GENERAL Inc. since January 1, 2026 after being called Fujitsu General Limited. The NEEP-certified values are the same to the digit.
This page speaks to one specific household: the one living in an all-electric home in Chomedey or Fabreville, heated by baseboards in every room since it was built, that has never had air conditioning and wants to put in a first mini split without launching a whole-house project. The logic is simple: the unit goes in the room where the family spends the most hours, the heat pump replaces the baseboards there for most of the winter, and the baseboards in the other rooms carry on with their work. Every heating hour transferred from the baseboards to the heat pump costs less, and this 9,000 BTU is a natural starting point.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
The name change comes from the top of the org chart. In August 2025, Paloma Rheem Holdings, which has owned Rheem since 1988, bought Fujitsu General; on January 1, 2026, Fujitsu General Limited took the name GENERAL Inc. The head office and the research and development centre remain in Kawasaki, Japan; the factories, the AIRSTAGE products, the model numbers and the warranty program are unchanged. GENERAL is in fact the company's historic name: it has been used as a trademark since 1946; founded in 1936, the company marks the 90th anniversary of its founding in 2026. In Canada, Rheem Canada has led sales since February 2026; AirGreen continues to source from Groupe Master and keeps its AIRSTAGE Elite Plus installer status.
The Fujitsu brand is leaving the equipment batch after batch, so the two names cross paths at distributors and installers during the transition. We display both pages for a practical reason: if you read "Fujitsu" on a quote and "GENERAL" on the unit delivered, you will know within a minute that it is the same product. The table below shows it value by value.

The page under the Fujitsu name is still available here: Fujitsu AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 300 9,000 BTU. Same unit, same figures, same crew to install it.
The baseboard arithmetic. An electric baseboard turns every kilowatt-hour into exactly one kilowatt-hour of heat. According to the certified data NEEP publishes under AHRI certificate 217505655, this heat pump delivers 5,200 BTU/h at −8 °C, at its certified operating point, with a COP of 2.63: the same kilowatt-hour gives more than two and a half times the baseboard's heat. Since the majority of heating hours in a Laval winter fall between the freezing point and −8 °C, that is where the savings happen, room by room, hour after hour. The HSPF2 of 9.0 is the "full season" version of that calculation: heat delivered divided by electricity consumed over a typical winter, defrost cycles included. It corresponds to an entry-level model, but the comparison that matters to you is not with a more expensive heat pump; it is with the baseboard it replaces, and there, the gap is clear.
The −15 °C floor, and what happens below it. This model's heating is guaranteed down to −15 °C, a temperature at which it delivers 6,800 BTU/h, 76% of its nominal size, with a COP of 2.12. Below −15 °C, your baseboards take the room back, and that is precisely why they are not removed in an all-electric home: they are already there, already wired, and they cost nothing as long as they do not start. In mild weather, the unit keeps a reserve of 12,400 BTU/h at 8 °C, 38% more than its nominal size, enough to warm the room quickly in the morning; and once at the setpoint, it slows down to 1,400 BTU/h at −15 °C and 3,100 BTU/h at 8 °C instead of stopping and restarting.
Setting up the house so the heat pump goes first. How the heat pump and the baseboards share the work depends on a few settings we make with you on installation day:
- The baseboard thermostat in the equipped room is set one notch below the heat pump's setpoint, so that the baseboards start only when the heat pump is no longer enough.
- The baseboards in the neighbouring rooms keep their usual setpoint; if you leave the doors open, the heat pump will cover part of them, but that is a bonus, not the basis of the calculation.
- The heat pump's setpoint stays steady rather than being lowered at night and raised in the morning; a heat pump modulating at low speed uses less than one catching up several degrees.
- The fan stays in automatic mode; the motorized vertical louvers sweep the room, and the horizontal direction is set by hand, once, toward where you sit.
- Wi-Fi, available as an option, lets you monitor the room temperature from work and check that the baseboards are staying idle.
A first air-conditioned summer. Many all-electric homes in Fabreville have never had air conditioning, and the first cooled bedroom or living room changes July nights. The SEER2 of 18.0 and the EER2 of 10.6 describe the air conditioning efficiency over the season and in the middle of a heat wave; the room cools down and, above all, dries out, which a fan does not do. The indoor unit runs between 20 and 41 dB(A) depending on speed, low enough for a bedroom; the outdoor unit sits at 46 dB(A), a discreet level for an outdoor unit, and we still place it away from bedroom windows, yours and the neighbour's.
What this model does not offer. It is not ENERGY STAR certified and does not appear on Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list; no grant is to be expected, and we say so before the quote rather than after. That is the price of its place at the entry point of the AIRSTAGE wall-mounted range: you are buying neither a certification nor a deep-cold reserve, only the machine needed to get one room off the baseboards. For a first mini split, that is often the right compromise; for a house you want to heat entirely with heat pumps, it is not, and we will tell you so.
The installation, in the chosen room. The wall unit mounts high, on an exterior wall if possible to shorten the line, oriented so that the air passes above the bed or the sofa and not onto it. Between the unit and the outdoor unit, an insulated copper refrigerant line of 1/4 and 3/8 in, a cable and a drain pass through a single hole in the wall, protected by a line cover. The outdoor unit sits on a wall bracket or on the ground, raised above the snow, with the clearance needed for air and for defrost water. Summer condensate drains by gravity; if the slope is impossible, a condensate pump is included in the quote. A dedicated 208/230 V circuit, installed by a licensed electrician, powers the unit; in an all-electric home, the panel is often quite full, and we check it at the visit. Our refrigeration technicians wrap up with the nitrogen pressure test, the vacuum pull, the first start-up and the supply-air temperature check.
Maintenance and warranty. The indoor filters clean without tools, under tap water; in a bedroom, a rinse at each change of season is often enough, more frequent if there are pets. In winter, the outdoor unit needs air: clear it after each snowfall. At the annual service, our refrigeration technician measures the R-32 refrigerant charge, washes the coils, empties the drain pan and tightens the electrical connections. The warranty covers the compressor for 12 years, parts for 12 years and labour for 6 years, under the GENERAL name as under the Fujitsu name.
Who this model is for. The all-electric home in Chomedey, Fabreville or elsewhere in Laval, where you start with a master bedroom, an office or a small living room and want to measure the drop in the bill before equipping other rooms. The owner who has never had air conditioning and wants a first cool room in summer without heavy work. If the target room is a large open-plan area, if you want to cover several rooms at once or if the LogisVert grant is part of the plan, we will propose a different capacity or model, and we will tell you which.
