GENERAL AIRSTAGE RLXFWH 24,000 BTU: −26 °C and LogisVert for the open-plan area of a sixties bungalow in Terrebonne, with the renamed Fujitsu Mini Split Heat Pump

The wall between the kitchen and the living room came down during the renovation, the baseboards stayed, and the wall insulation is the original: that is the sixties bungalow as you find it by the hundreds in Terrebonne and Lachenaie, and it is for its open-plan area that we propose the GENERAL AIRSTAGE RLXFWH 24,000 BTU. Before going further: this mini split is the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE RLXFWH 24,000 BTU, without the slightest difference. Same indoor unit ASU24RLF, same outdoor unit AOU24RLXFWH, same AHRI certificate 8779046, same certified values, same warranty. Fujitsu General Limited became GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026, and that is the only thing that is new.

An older house asks two things of a heat pump: capacity that holds when the thermometer drops to −26 °C, because its walls lose more heat than a recent build, and solid financial help so that the project gets decided. This model brings both, with NEEP figures and a LogisVert grant of $2,160 according to Hydro-Québec's list of October 27, 2026. It also brings one particularity to account for from the site visit onward: a tall outdoor unit, which we place with care.

GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine

The AOU24RLXFWH we have been installing for years keeps its number; only the manufacturer's name changed. Paloma Rheem Holdings, owner of Rheem since 1988, acquired Fujitsu General in August 2025, and on January 1, 2026, Fujitsu General Limited became GENERAL Inc. The head office and the research and development centre stayed in Kawasaki, Japan; the factories, the AIRSTAGE products, the model numbers and the warranty program are the same. The GENERAL name has been in use as a trademark since 1946, and the company, founded in 1936, marks the 90th anniversary of its founding in 2026. In Canada, Rheem Canada has handled sales since February 2026, and Groupe Master remains our distributor.

Until the Fujitsu brand withdraws, the same unit is sold under both names, and your carton may carry either logo. We keep both pages online so that you can compare every value; that is what the table below does.

The twin page under the Fujitsu name remains accessible here: Fujitsu AIRSTAGE RLXFWH 24,000 BTU, with the same AHRI certificate.

97% of its capacity at −15 °C, 82% at −26 °C. The values come from NEEP, the cold-climate heat pump database, under AHRI certificate 8779046. At −8 °C, the RLXFWH delivers 18,000 BTU/h at its certified operating point with a COP of 2.50: two and a half times the heat of a baseboard for the same electricity. At −15 °C, its certified capacity is 23,200 BTU/h, 97% of its nominal 24,000 BTU size, with a COP of 2.04. At −26 °C, the coldest point of its certification, it still delivers up to 19,720 BTU/h, 82% of its nominal size, with a COP of 1.79. In a bungalow whose walls have the insulation of their era, that cold-weather performance is what counts: the machine does not collapse on the night the open-plan area needs it most. The manufacturer guarantees heating down to −26 °C; below that, and during a prolonged cold snap, the existing baseboards serve as backup, which we plan for rather than pass over in silence. In mild weather, the reserve reaches 36,200 BTU/h at 8 °C, 51% more than the nominal size, and the open-plan area comes back up to temperature quickly after a day at idle.

HSPF2 of 10.5 and a bungalow's bill. The HSPF2 measures the heat delivered per unit of electricity over a whole heating season; at 10.5, every hour transferred from the baseboards to the heat pump costs markedly less, and in a bungalow where the open-plan area represents half of the heated floor area, that difference shows on the winter bills. Other series in the range post a higher HSPF2; this model was selected for its capacity in deep cold, and that is the honest trade-off for an older house. In summer, the SEER2 of 19.5 and the EER2 of 12.5 give a cool, dehumidified open-plan area without the meter racing.

A tall outdoor unit, placed with care. The RLXFWH's outdoor unit measures a little over 35 in wide, 13 in deep and a little over 50 in high, much taller than that of the small capacities. We set it on a stable ground base or a sturdy wall bracket, above the usual snow height, with the clearance needed for air and defrost water, and away from bedroom windows, because it runs at 55 dB(A). The indoor unit, 39.25 in wide and 12.63 in high, takes its place on the wall facing the longest axis of the open-plan area, so that the warm air crosses the kitchen and the living room in a single stream. It runs between 33 and 49 dB(A) depending on speed. The refrigerant line is insulated 3/8 and 5/8 in copper. Wi-Fi is offered as an option.

What an older house changes about the installation. Our refrigeration technicians check these points at the site visit, before the quote:

  • the wall's composition, plaster on lath or drywall, and the presence of an exterior wall near the desired location, to pass the line, the cable and the drain through a single hole;
  • the wall and attic insulation, which decides whether 24,000 BTU is enough for the open-plan area or whether to plan otherwise;
  • the electrical panel, often original, for the dedicated 208/230 V circuit that a licensed electrician connects;
  • the slope of the condensate drain to the outside; without a slope, a condensate pump is planned in the quote;
  • the location of the outdoor unit, its base and its access for snow clearing.

On the day of the work, the installation ends with the nitrogen leak test, the vacuum, the start-up and the supply-air temperature check, then a walk through the remote and the filters with you.

LogisVert grant and warranty. The model is ENERGY STAR cold-climate certified (ID 2417185) and listed among the heat pumps eligible for Hydro-Québec's LogisVert program, at $2,160 according to the list of October 27, 2026. That list moves; we confirm the amount at quote time and our invoice names both units and the AHRI certificate so that the application goes through the first time. The warranty is the same under both names: 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts, 6 years on labour, with an extended warranty possible.

Maintenance and filters. The indoor filters pull out by hand and rinse under warm water; with a kitchen in the open-plan area, a regular rinse keeps the airflow and the efficiency at their certified level. In winter, clear the snow around the outdoor unit after each snowfall; its height keeps it clear of ordinary accumulations, but not of a snowbank pushed against it. Once a year, a refrigeration technician checks the R-410A refrigerant charge, cleans the coil and the drain pan and checks the defrost operation.

Who this model is for. The Terrebonne or Lachenaie bungalow whose open-plan area, kitchen, dining room and living room, is heated by baseboards, and whose owner wants a single wall unit that holds at −26 °C and a grant that helps pay for it. The house whose insulation has not been redone and where capacity in deep cold matters more than the last point of efficiency. If the open-plan area is much larger than average, or if you plan to insulate the attic and walls before installing, we will recalculate the capacity at the visit; a better-insulated house sometimes needs less than this one.

Call us at 514 316-2973 or request your free quote online. Our estimator comes to see the open-plan area, the insulation, the available wall, the outdoor unit location and the electrical panel, then hands you a written quote with the LogisVert amount confirmed. We install the GENERAL AIRSTAGE RLXFWH 24,000 BTU on the North Shore, in Laval, Montreal, Longueuil and on the South Shore.

An RBQ-licensed HVAC contractor and AIRSTAGE Elite Plus installer, AirGreen installs the same machine under the GENERAL name or the Fujitsu name, and follows it afterwards. A sixties bungalow can get through winter on a heat pump; it takes the right capacity, and this one holds the cold.
