A 12,000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump at 115 V designed for projects where electrical simplicity, comfort, and budget must remain well balanced

The SENVILLE LETO 12,000 BTU 115 V meets a very practical need we regularly encounter in Greater Montreal: efficiently cooling a bedroom, office, condo, apartment, or reasonably sized living area while adding supplemental heating capacity, without necessarily installing a 208/230 V unit.

This 115 V configuration deserves emphasis. It does not mean that the heat pump can simply be plugged into an existing wall outlet. The technical specifications require a minimum circuit ampacity of 19 A and maximum overcurrent protection of 20 A. A dedicated electrical circuit compliant with the unit’s requirements must therefore be provided. However, in some buildings where a 115 V solution integrates more easily with the electrical design, this configuration can simplify planning.

Senville documentation also confirms a voltage range of 103.5 to 126.5 V, variable power consumption in cooling mode from 230 to 800 W and in heating mode from 200 to 1,230 W, which clearly illustrates the modulating operation of Inverter technology.

115 V is a genuine advantage in some projects, but it must not be misinterpreted

The term 115 V often draws attention because it recalls the common electrical circuits in a residence. On an HVAC job, however, all electrical specifications must be considered together.

This SENVILLE requires:

  • a minimum ampacity of 19 A;
  • a maximum protection of 20 A;
  • a 115 V single-phase power supply;
  • a communication cable specified by the manufacturer at 14 × 4 AWG between the units.

We therefore always check the electrical panel, the available circuit, and the wiring route before installation.

A common example involves a condo or apartment where the owner wants to replace a window air conditioner with a genuine wall-mounted heat pump. The fact that the new system is 115 V may be advantageous, but it does not mean that just any existing outlet can be used automatically. The circuit must be properly sized and protected.

This is exactly the kind of detail that helps avoid an apparently simple installation that later causes circuit-breaker trips or a non-compliant electrical installation.

An especially wide modulation range for maintaining a stable temperature

A frequently overlooked specification is the minimum capacity.

In cooling mode, the LETO can modulate approximately from 2,200 to 12,300 BTU/h. In heating mode, the published range is 2,400 to 12,200 BTU/h.

This ability to reduce its output becomes useful as the room approaches its setpoint temperature.

A traditional heat pump that could operate only at full capacity would have to stop the compressor, wait for the temperature to drift, and then restart. An Inverter system can instead reduce its operating speed.

In a bedroom, office, or condo, this promotes:

  • more consistent indoor temperature;
  • fewer start-stop cycles;
  • energy consumption better suited to demand;
  • improved acoustic comfort when the unit operates at low speed.

Senville also states that its DC Inverter technology can reduce energy consumption by up to 48 % under certain conditions compared with the references used by the manufacturer. This percentage should be considered a commercial indication that depends heavily on usage and the system being replaced, not as guaranteed savings in every home.

SEER2 of 21.2: good air-conditioning efficiency

The SEER2 of 21.2 is one of the appealing features of the 12,000 BTU LETO.

For a homeowner who uses air conditioning extensively in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, or the South Shore, this seasonal efficiency allows the unit to provide a significant amount of cooling for the electricity consumed.

The EER2 of 10.1 complements this information by measuring performance under a standardized operating condition.

However, we recommend never comparing two heat pumps based solely on SEER2. For a Quebec project, you should also consider:

  • heating performance;
  • available capacity as the outdoor temperature decreases;
  • HSPF2;
  • noise level;
  • minimum modulation capacity;
  • ENERGY STAR certification;
  • the outdoor temperature range;
  • electrical requirements;
  • the total installed cost.

This is particularly true for this LETO, whose positioning differs from that of a wall-mounted heat pump specifically designed to serve as a primary heating source in very cold weather.

Heating down to -15 °C: what this figure really means

Senville advertises heating operation down to -15 °C.

On the AirGreen product page for this combination, the listed capacity drops to approximately:

  • 9,000 BTU/h at -8 °C;
  • 6,600 BTU/h at -15 °C.

The listed COP is approximately 2.094 at -8 °C and 1.844 at -15 °C.

These figures are much more informative than simply stating “heating down to -15 °C.”

At -15 °C, the unit can still produce heat, but it no longer provides its rated 12,000 BTU. For a building in Quebec, this difference must be factored into the equipment selection.

We often see two possible uses.

In a condo heated primarily with electricity, the LETO can provide a significant portion of the heating during milder temperatures, while the existing electric system remains available when demand increases.

In an addition, basement, office, or commercial space, it can also provide very practical localized heating without necessarily being expected to handle the entire heating load on its own during the coldest days.

This model is not an ENERGY STAR cold-climate heat pump.

It is important to distinguish low-temperature operating capacity from ENERGY STAR – Cold Climate certification.

This SENL-12CD-OL / SENL-12CD-ILL combination is not listed as ENERGY STAR or ENERGY STAR Cold Climate on the AirGreen product page.

This directly affects rebates.

The current Hydro-Québec LogisVert criteria provide financial assistance for heat pumps meeting the applicable ENERGY STAR certifications, with a higher amount for ENERGY STAR – Cold Climate units.

This 12,000 BTU 115 V LETO should therefore not be chosen primarily to obtain a LogisVert rebate when it does not meet the required certification. In a project where the rebate is a determining factor, we can compare its installed cost with that of an eligible model before making a decision.

This comparison is often more useful than looking only at the equipment’s purchase price.

An indicative range of 450 to 750 sq. ft., to be used with caution

Senville presents the model as suitable for approximately 450 to 750 sq. ft., particularly for bedrooms, offices, and living spaces.

This range is not a substitute for proper sizing.

A 600 sq. ft. ground-floor home in a well-insulated building does not have the same heating and cooling load as an apartment of the same size on the top floor of an old Montreal triplex.

A properly sized and correctly positioned 12,000 BTU unit generally delivers better results than an oversized unit installed simply “to be safe.”

17.5 dB(A) at low speed: interesting for a bedroom or office

The specifications indicate indoor sound levels of up to 45 dB(A) at high speed, decreasing to 17.5 dB(A) in its quietest mode. The outdoor unit is rated at 54 dB(A).

This feature makes the LETO well suited for:

  • a bedroom;
  • a home office;
  • a small condo;
  • a living room where the unit is relatively close to the occupants.

Sleep mode also allows the setpoint to change gradually during the night. Senville specifically highlights quiet operation and Sleep mode for nighttime use.

The final sound level nevertheless depends on the installation. An outdoor unit mounted on a structure that may transmit vibrations can be more noticeable than a condenser properly installed on a suitable base or support.

Airflow and automatic louvers: two details that affect comfort

The indoor airflow reaches approximately 341.4 CFM at maximum speed, with several intermediate levels of 309.0, 206.0, and 176.6 CFM.

The AirGreen specifications also indicate automatic control of the vertical and horizontal louvers.

This helps distribute the air rather than creating a concentrated jet in the same location.

But even a unit with good louvers cannot compensate for poor placement.

If the indoor unit is placed facing a wall a few feet away, behind a beam, or in a corner that prevents the air from reaching the rest of the residence, distribution will be limited.

In our wall-mounted air conditioning projects in Montreal and Laval, we therefore pay close attention to airflow direction before confirming the final location.

A dehumidification capacity of 1.4 liters per hour

The documentation states a moisture removal rate of approximately 1.4 L/h.

This feature is particularly useful during Quebec’s hot, humid periods.

Summer comfort is not determined solely by temperature. A room maintained at 23°C with high humidity can remain uncomfortable. A properly sized heat pump generally has sufficient run times to remove humidity while cooling.

This is another reason to avoid excessive oversizing.

WiFi, Alexa, and remote scheduling

WiFi is included in the configuration offered by AirGreen, and Senville indicates compatibility with Alexa. The system allows the temperature, schedules, and certain settings to be changed through an app or voice command.

The manufacturer includes, among other items:

  • the indoor unit;
  • the outdoor unit;
  • the wireless remote control;
  • the indoor-outdoor wiring harness;
  • the Alexa USB module;
  • the installation and operating manuals.

For a second home or a residence whose occupants are regularly away, this feature can, for example, adjust the setpoint before returning home instead of continuously maintaining the same temperature.

R454B and 25-foot precharge

This generation uses R454B refrigerant.

The heat pump is precharged for a line length of up to 25 feet. Senville indicates that an installation with a 50-foot kit requires refrigerant to be added on site by the installer.

The technical specifications also confirm a 25 ft precharge and an outdoor unit weight of approximately 61.29 lb.

For this combination, AirGreen specifies 1/4 in – 3/8 in piping.

During an installation, we must measure the actual route rather than arbitrarily choosing the piping length. A shorter, clean route is generally preferable, but the goal is also to avoid unnecessary bends, maintain a neat exterior finish, and keep the equipment accessible for future maintenance.

A common use case in Greater Montreal

The 12,000 BTU 115 V LETO is a good fit for a scenario we encounter often: a homeowner wants to remove a noisy window air conditioner from a bedroom, living room, or small dwelling while also gaining a heating function.

In this context, we do not look only at the wall where the customer would like to see the indoor unit.

We check the entire route:

indoor unit → drain → refrigerant lines → wiring → outdoor unit → electrical supply.

A highly aesthetic indoor position can sometimes require a problematic drain or an unnecessarily long outdoor route. Conversely, choosing the location solely to reduce piping length can result in poor air distribution.

The right compromise must be decided before drilling.

Dimensions to allow for

The indoor unit measures approximately:

31.57 in × 7.44 in × 11.69 in.

The outdoor unit measures:

30.12 in × 11.93 in × 21.85 in.

These relatively compact dimensions facilitate several balcony, wall-mounted, or ground-level installations, but the required clearances around the condenser must always be maintained.

In particular, we must avoid placing the outdoor unit where:

  • snow may bury it;
  • discharged air is immediately recirculated;
  • service access becomes impossible;
  • vibrations are transmitted directly to a bedroom;
  • water draining from heating cycles creates a problem on a walkway.

The errors we aim to avoid from the estimating stage

With a wall-mounted heat pump, some errors are much more expensive to correct after installation.

Choosing capacity based solely on square footage.
Floor area is an indicator, not a load calculation.

Treating 115 V as power supplied by a standard outlet.
This LETO requires a circuit capable of handling its 19 A MCA and 20 A MOP.

Choosing this model assuming it is a -30 °C heat pump.
The published heating range goes down to -15 °C.

Assuming it is automatically eligible for LogisVert.
The combination is not listed as ENERGY STAR or ENERGY STAR – Cold Climate.

Installing the indoor unit without considering air distribution.
Available capacity is useless if the airflow remains confined to a small area.

Neglecting drainage.
A heat pump produces water in cooling mode. The drain must have a proper slope and route.

Warranty: a point to confirm based on the coverage provided at the time of purchase

The Senville brochure attached to this version indicates 5 years of warranty on the compressor and 5 years on parts.

The AirGreen product page currently lists 10-10-0 years, with the possibility of an additional warranty.

Since the terms may vary depending on product registration, the distributor’s program, and the coverage provided with the installation, we confirm the exact applicable warranty at the time of the quote rather than relying solely on a general statement.

This check is particularly important when a customer is comparing two units whose prices appear similar.

This heat pump deserves consideration when the project primarily requires:

  • a capacity of 12,000 BTU;
