The reason is simple: this capacity suits many primary bedrooms, living rooms, offices, condos, basements, and medium-sized spaces where an 18,000 or 24,000 BTU unit would be unnecessarily large.
The system associated with this AirGreen product page consists of the SENA-12HF-OG outdoor unit and the SENA-12HF-IGG indoor unit, with AHRI 215735296 certification. However, an important clarification must be made regarding the product name: the attached manufacturer documentation identifies the SENA-12HF as a model in the SENVILLE AURA series, not LETO. The brochure clearly presents the product as a “12000 BTU Mini Split Air Conditioner – Heat Pump – AURA Series” and uses the model number SENA-12HF. The technical specifications presented below therefore correspond to the SENA-12HF documented by Senville. A 12,000 BTU unit that covers far more than basic air-conditioning needs
Senville recommends this model for an indicative area of approximately 500 to 750 sq. ft., positioning it as a solution intended for medium-sized rooms. The documentation also states a SEER2 of 25.4, heating down to -30 °C, Alexa integration, quiet operation, and the requirement for professional installation to preserve warranty coverage.
At AirGreen, however, we always use recommended square-footage ranges with caution.
A 650 sq. ft. room in a newer Boucherville construction with good insulation, few windows, and standard ceilings does not necessarily have the same thermal load as a 650 sq. ft. space in an older building in Montreal, with large windows, several exterior walls, and air infiltration.
Before a wall-mounted heat pump installation, we consider factors such as the floor area, ceiling height, insulation, solar exposure, windows, the number of walls facing outdoors, and how the air will circulate.
This analysis is precisely what helps avoid two common mistakes: choosing a heat pump that is too small and runs constantly at maximum capacity, or installing a unit that is too large and reaches its setpoint too quickly without properly using its modulation.
An inverter range of 3,500 to 13,500 BTU in cooling mode
The nominal cooling capacity is 12,000 BTU/h, but the inverter compressor can modulate between approximately 3,500 and 13,500 BTU/h.
For heating, Senville indicates a nominal capacity of 13,000 BTU/h, with a modulation range from 4,000 to 14,500 BTU/h.
This information is far more revealing than the simple figure “12,000 BTU.”
When a room is warm in the early afternoon, the heat pump can increase its output. Once the desired temperature is reached, it can gradually reduce its output instead of constantly alternating between completely off and maximum operation.
In a properly sized installation, this modulation helps provide:
- more stable indoor temperature;
- fewer noticeable variations between cycles;
- better acoustic comfort at low output;
- energy consumption better matched to actual demand;
- more consistent dehumidification during the summer season.
For us, this is one of the reasons why proper sizing of a 12,000 BTU heat pump is just as important as its efficiency ratings.
SEER2 25.4: a figure that puts efficiency at the heart of the project
Senville documentation states a SEER2 of 25.4 and an EER2 of 13.5. For heating, it lists an HSPF2-4 of 13.7, an HSPF2-5 of 9.6, and a nominal COP of 3.45.
These ratings make it possible to compare units with similar capacities.
The SEER2 represents seasonal cooling efficiency. A higher rating is especially valuable when the unit will operate frequently during the summer.
HSPF2 relates more to seasonal heating performance and is highly relevant in Quebec, where a heat pump may accumulate far more operating hours in heating mode than in cooling mode.
Senville also presents this model as ENERGY STAR, with a design intended for cold climates.
What -8 °C, -15 °C, and -30 °C really mean
The AirGreen specification sheet provided for the SENA-12HF-OG + SENA-12HF-IGG system indicates:

These figures tell us much more about the performance of a Quebec heat pump than the simple statement “heating down to -30 °C.”
At -15 °C, the unit remains very close to its nominal output of 12,000 BTU. At -30 °C, it can still produce heat, but its available capacity drops to approximately 5,900 BTU/h maximum according to the AirGreen specification sheet.
The manufacturer’s brochure also confirms a minimum outdoor operating temperature in heating mode of -22 °F, or -30 °C.
This is a distinction we regularly make during our assessments at AirGreen. Operating at -30 °C does not mean providing 12,000 BTU at -30 °C.
In a Greater Montreal home, the heat pump can therefore provide a significant portion of the heating for much of the winter, but the building’s needs must be compared with the capacity actually available when temperatures drop sharply.
An interesting model for bedrooms, offices, living rooms, and condos
Senville’s recommended range of 500 to 750 sq. ft. provides a good general indication, but air distribution remains essential.
In our HVAC installation work, we often see spaces that look similar on paper but require different solutions.
In an open-concept condo, a single 12,000 BTU unit can sometimes distribute air effectively throughout the living room, dining room, and part of the kitchen.
In a home with many separate rooms, the same capacity will not guarantee that air reaches a bedroom located behind two doors and a hallway.
That is why we do not promise that a single unit will heat or cool multiple rooms simply because their total area falls within a theoretical range.
An airflow rate of up to 530 CFM
The SENA-12HF offers four indoor airflow levels according to the brochure:
530 CFM in Turbo, 410 CFM at high speed, 320 CFM at medium speed, and 240 CFM at low speed.
The corresponding sound levels are 47, 40, 34 and 24 dB(A).
This range is particularly useful in a 12,000 BTU unit.
When a room needs to be cooled quickly after prolonged exposure to the sun, Turbo mode can move more air. At night or when the temperature has stabilized, low-speed operation considerably reduces noise.
For a bedroom, home office, or living room, a stated minimum level of 24 dB(A) is therefore a concrete feature, provided that the unit is properly installed and does not have to operate constantly at maximum speed to compensate for incorrect sizing.
The location of the louvers matters as much as their automation
The AirGreen specifications indicate automatic control of the vertical and horizontal louvers.
This helps distribute the air more evenly, but it does not correct a poor initial location.
At AirGreen, we avoid positioning an indoor unit whenever possible so that it sends its main airflow directly:
- directly over a bed;
- toward a sofa located very close by;
- at a fixed workstation;
- against a partition directly opposite;
- in a direction opposite the main areas to be treated.
A wall-mounted heat pump works best when it can project its air through the depth of the space. The natural circulation of this air often matters more than a minor difference between two specification sheets.
Dimensions: allow space before choosing the location
The Senville brochure indicates for the indoor unit:
33.4 in wide × 9.18 in deep × 11.76 in high
with a weight of 24.25 lb.
For the outdoor unit:
30.31 in × 12.20 in × 21.65 in
with a weight of 82.67 lb.
These dimensions are important when the installation must be carried out above a door, between a window and an adjacent wall, or in a room where wall space is limited.
Outside, we must also maintain the necessary clearances around the unit to ensure adequate heat exchange and facilitate future HVAC maintenance.
An installation that is too close to a wall, beneath a structure, or in a cluttered space can impair operation even if the heat pump itself is correctly sized.
R-454B, WiFi, 220 V power supply, and installation: the details that make a difference in the field
R-454B and refrigerant charge for 25 feet
This version of the SENA-12HF operates with R-454B.
The brochure indicates a charge of 40.92 oz and a factory charge intended for a piping length of up to 25 feet.
Senville also specifies that a configuration with a 50-foot line set requires additional refrigerant to be charged on site by the installer.
This information is important because the actual routing length is not always the visible distance between the two units.
An indoor unit may be installed on a living room wall while the piping must rise, go around a window, pass through a structure, and descend toward the outdoor unit. The actual amount of piping may therefore be considerably greater than the straight-line distance measured.
1/4 in – 3/8 in piping: to be checked during a replacement
The AirGreen specification sheet specifies 1/4 in – 3/8 in piping.
When replacing an old heat pump, we never assume that the existing piping can automatically be kept.
We must check its diameter, condition, routing, and compatibility with the new system. An existing line may appear visually suitable for reuse while not meeting the new unit’s technical requirements.
In some projects in Montreal or Laval, this verification can make a significant difference when the lines run through finished walls or difficult-to-access areas.
208/230 V, MCA 12 A, and maximum protection of 15 A according to the brochure
The manufacturer specifies a power supply:
208/230 V, single-phase, 60 Hz
with a voltage range of 187 to 253 V.
The brochure also indicates a minimum circuit ampacity of 12 A and maximum protection of 15 A. It specifies 14/4 AWG connection wiring.
This data must be used to plan the electrical supply correctly.
The provided AirGreen specification sheet currently mentions an MCA of 13 A, while the attached manufacturer’s brochure indicates 12 A. For an actual installation, the requirements shown on the nameplate of the delivered equipment and in the applicable documentation must always be confirmed before electrical work begins.
This check is particularly important when replacing an older heat pump and the owner wants to reuse an existing circuit.
WiFi and Alexa: more than simple remote control
The SENA-12HF is compatible with Alexa and can be controlled through an app. The brochure indicates that settings can be changed remotely and operating schedules can be created.
The manufacturer includes a wireless remote control and an Alexa USB Kit with the system, along with the indoor unit, outdoor unit, wiring harness, and manuals.
In everyday use, this connectivity becomes particularly practical for a heat pump installed in:
a basement used only in the evening, a home office, a rental unit, a secondary residence, or an area that one wants to bring back to temperature before arriving.
The goal is not simply to control the unit with a phone. Consistent programming can also prevent maintaining the same temperature unnecessarily throughout all hours when no one is present.
Dehumidification: a factor not to overlook during the Montreal summer
The documentation indicates a moisture-removal capacity of 1.4 L/h.
In the humid climate of Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, and Montérégie, this function contributes to comfort during hot periods.
But for it to work properly, condensate drainage must be properly designed.
In the field, an installation may be technically functional while later creating problems if the drain has insufficient slope, an unsuitable route, or an outlet exposed to the risk of blockage.

Self-diagnostics and leak detection: useful, but not a replacement for maintenance
Senville indicates that this model has self-diagnostic and leak-detection functions, designed to report certain problems and facilitate maintenance.
These features are useful, but a wall-mounted heat pump must always be maintained.
The filters must be cleaned regularly. The evaporator must remain clean. The drain must maintain free flow. The outdoor unit must be able to breathe properly.
A high-efficiency appliance whose airflow is reduced by dirty filters cannot fully deliver its rated performance.
A customer review that clearly illustrates the importance of professional installation
The attached brochure includes a comment from a verified buyer dated August 27, 2026. The customer explains that they completed part of the work themselves because of their experience as an electrician, but hired an HVAC contractor to evacuate and charge the lines, an operation they considered outside their expertise and necessary for the warranty.
This testimonial aligns exactly with a reality we observe in installations.
Mounting a unit on a wall represents only a small part of the work. The final quality also depends on the refrigerant connection, evacuation, leak-tightness, evacuation to vacuum, charging, drainage, and commissioning.
This is when the quality of a professional HVAC installation truly matters.
Warranty: verify the exact terms before sale
The provided AirGreen document currently displays a warranty of 10 years on the compressor – 10 years on parts – 0 years on labor, with the possibility of additional protection.
The attached Senville brochure, for its part, indicates 10 years on the compressor and 5 years on parts. This information appears both in the product presentation and in the technical table.
This difference must be clarified before publication or before presenting warranty coverage to the customer. Some warranties may depend on registration, the distributor, the applicable program, or the terms of sale.
