30,000 BTU in a single wall-mounted unit: a solution designed for large open areas, provided the project is properly sized
The SENVILLE LETO 30,000 BTU falls into a very different category from the 9,000, 12,000, or 18,000 BTU wall-mounted heat pumps that we commonly install in a bedroom, condo, or small living room. With a rated capacity of 30,000 BTU/h, this unit is intended instead for large open areas, basements, commercial spaces, large living rooms, workspaces, and large residential areas.
At AirGreen, we mainly consider this type of heat pump when a homeowner wants to treat a large volume with a single wall-mounted head. However, the question is never simply whether “30,000 BTU is enough.” It is also necessary to determine whether air can actually circulate throughout the area, whether the unit is properly sized, whether the electrical installation can power it, and whether its winter performance meets the homeowner’s expectations.
The combination offered consists of the SENL-30CD-OL outdoor unit and the SENL-30CD-ILL indoor unit. The official AHRI certificate bears the number 215735292 and confirms that this combination is active and marketed in Canada, with a rated cooling capacity of 30,000 BTU/h, a SEER2 of 20.00, an EER2 of 11.00, a rated heating capacity of 30,000 BTU/h, and an HSPF2 Region IV of 9.20.

The Senville technical data sheet confirms, among other things, a power supply of 208/230 V, a voltage range of 187 to 253 V, an MCA of 28 A, and a maximum protection of 30 A. It also documents the modulation ranges in heating and cooling modes.
True modulation capacity despite the 30,000 BTU format
The 30,000 BTU rating does not mean that the compressor operates constantly at full capacity.
In cooling mode, the published range is 6,200 to 33,700 BTU/h. In heating mode, it is 11,800 to 33,700 BTU/h.
This modulation is important in a large open-concept area.
Let’s consider a situation we regularly encounter during our estimates in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, and the South Shore: a finished basement becomes very hot after several hours of sunlight and activity. The heat pump can increase its output to bring the temperature back to the setpoint. Once the zone has stabilized, the Inverter can reduce its output rather than operating continuously according to an on-off cycle.
This helps improve:
- temperature stability;
- electricity consumption;
- acoustic comfort;
- cycle duration;
- humidity control.
Senville states that its Inverter technology automatically adjusts output according to demand and indicates, for this series, a potential consumption reduction of up to 20% depending on the comparison conditions used by the manufacturer.
1,250 to 1,500 sq. ft.: useful as a reference, but insufficient for choosing the capacity on its own
The documentation presents the SENVILLE LETO 30,000 BTU as suitable for approximately 1,250 to 1,500 sq. ft., particularly for large rooms, offices, and basements.
This indication should be used as a starting point, not as a sizing formula.
A 1,400 sq. ft. basement in Laval that is largely open and located beneath a well-insulated house does not have the same needs as a 1,400 sq. ft. commercial space in Montreal with:
- an exterior door that is frequently opened;
- large display windows;
- several occupants;
- computers or equipment generating heat;
- higher ceilings;
- significant solar gains.
Conversely, a large unit installed in a highly compartmentalized space can produce a great deal of air without properly conditioning distant rooms.
A common mistake: trying to cool several closed bedrooms with a single 30,000 BTU indoor unit
This is a point we often explain during estimates.
A wall-mounted heat pump does not distribute air like a central ducted system. Installing a 30,000 BTU unit in a hallway does not mean that four bedrooms behind closed doors will each receive their share of the capacity.
In this scenario, adding BTUs is not necessarily the solution.
We need to consider:
- the indoor unit’s position;
- the direction of the airflow;
- the layout of the space;
- doors and partitions;
- ceiling height;
- the number of zones actually requiring conditioning.
In a large open-concept area, this LETO can be highly suitable. In a heavily compartmentalized home, a multi-zone system or several units may sometimes offer better room-by-room control.
An airflow rate of 853.5 CFM in Turbo mode
A 30,000 BTU heat pump must move a significant amount of air.
The technical brochure indicates the following airflow rates:
- 853.5 CFM in Turbo mode;
- 732.8 CFM at high speed;
- 470.9 CFM at medium speed;
- 353.2 CFM at low speed.
This airflow is why the indoor unit’s location must be planned carefully.
In a large rectangular room, we generally aim to use the length of the room rather than immediately directing the air toward a nearby wall. The automatic vertical and horizontal louvers then help distribute the airflow more evenly throughout the area.
Sound level: the high airflow is naturally more noticeable
The SENVILLE LETO 30,000 BTU has indoor sound levels of approximately:
57 / 51 / 44.5 / 34 dB(A) depending on the speed.
The outdoor unit is rated at 60.5 dB(A).
Therefore, this heat pump should not be compared directly with a small bedroom unit capable of dropping below 20 dB(A). This is an appliance capable of moving up to more than 850 CFM.
For an installation near a bedroom, on a balcony, or in a narrow passage between two properties, we must also consider the position of the outdoor unit, vibrations, and sound reflection from nearby walls.
An interesting dehumidification capacity
The technical specifications indicate moisture removal of approximately 3.6 liters per hour.
This is particularly relevant in large basements in Greater Montreal, where summer discomfort is often caused as much by humidity as by temperature.
A properly sized unit can run long enough to cool the space and remove some of the humidity from the air.
Conversely, installing an oversized unit for the space can shorten operating cycles and reduce dehumidification quality.
Heating: the rated capacity must be distinguished from performance in extreme cold
The LETO provides a rated heating capacity of 30,000 BTU/h, with an advertised range reaching up to 33,700 BTU/h under certain conditions.
However, the accompanying commercial documentation presents this series as capable of heating down to -15 °C.
The AirGreen specifications also indicate approximately:
- 19,000 BTU/h at -8 °C;
- 19,700 BTU/h at -15 °C.
This decrease compared with the nominal 30,000 BTU is normal: a heat pump’s available capacity can vary with the outdoor temperature.
That is why we avoid presenting the rated capacity as though it were available under all winter conditions.
ENERGY STAR, but not the “cold climate” classification
The SENL-30CD-OL / SENL-30CD-ILL combination is listed on our product page as ENERGY STAR, with identifier 4479008, but not as ENERGY STAR – Cold Climate.
This distinction is important for a Quebec homeowner.
A heat pump can be efficient and ENERGY STAR certified without necessarily meeting the specific criteria for the cold-climate classification.
For someone primarily looking to reduce the use of electric baseboard heaters during very cold periods, we can therefore compare this LETO with a heat pump specifically certified for cold climates before making a decision.
SEER2 20 and HSPF2 9.2: how to interpret these values
The official AHRI certificate confirms:
- SEER2: 20.00;
- EER2: 11.00;
- HSPF2 Region IV: 9.20.
SEER2 measures seasonal cooling efficiency. HSPF2 concerns seasonal heating efficiency.
These values are mainly useful for comparing several pieces of equipment using standardized methods.
On their own, they do not make it possible to predict the exact amount of a Hydro-Québec bill. Actual consumption will depend, among other things, on the requested temperature, the building, insulation, number of hours of use, and the heating system being replaced or supplemented.
R454B and 3/8 in – 5/8 in piping
This new version uses R454B refrigerant.
The brochure indicates that the system is precharged for up to 25 feet of refrigerant lines. For an installation using a 50-foot kit, the manufacturer specifies that an additional charge must be added on site by the installer.
For the 30,000 BTU combination, the specified piping is 3/8 in – 5/8 in.
The actual length must always be measured before installation. A project in which the indoor unit is on the second floor and the condenser is at the back of the building may require much more material than a back-to-back installation.
Required electrical installation: 208/230 V, MCA 28 A, MOP 30 A
This 30,000 BTU LETO operates on a 208/230 V single-phase power supply.
The manufacturer's data indicates:
- MCA: 28 A;
- maximum protection: 30 A;
- specified communication wiring: 14 × 4 AWG.
For our HVAC installations in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the South Shore, and the North Shore, we therefore check the electrical panel before the work begins.
An available breaker in the panel is not always sufficient. You must ensure that the circuit, wiring, outdoor disconnect, and the entire electrical installation are suitable for the selected model.
An indoor unit much larger than a 12,000 BTU unit
The dimensions should also be checked before choosing the wall.
The indoor unit measures approximately:
49.57 in wide × 11.10 in deep × 14.25 in high.
Its weight is approximately 40.34 lb.
The outdoor unit measures approximately:
37.24 × 16.14 × 31.89 in,
for a weight of approximately 150.35 lb.
We are therefore far from the very compact format of a small 9,000 BTU heat pump.
The available width above windows, doors, bookcases, or cabinets must be checked, along with the necessary clearances around the units.
AirGreen installation: making the most of 30,000 BTU without creating an oversized or poorly distributed system
A typical scenario: a large open basement on the South Shore
Let’s consider a project representative of what we see in properties in Boucherville, Longueuil, Saint-Hubert, or Saint-Bruno.
The homeowner has a large basement comprising a family room, a workout area, and a workspace, but very few permanent partitions. In summer, humidity is high and the existing small air-conditioning solutions are no longer sufficient.
A 30,000 BTU heat pump may be suitable if the load calculation justifies it and if we can position the unit to project air along the length of the space.
The same unit would be much less suitable if this basement were divided into five rooms whose doors generally remain closed.
This is why we always consider the building’s layout before the capacity listed on the unit.
Wi-Fi and Alexa integration
The 30,000 BTU LETO can be controlled remotely, and the brochure indicates integration with Alexa, allowing users in particular:
- to turn the system on or off;
- to adjust the setpoint;
- to change the settings;
- to create schedules.
The Alexa USB module is one of the items listed in the product documentation.
For a store, office, or cottage, this feature can be particularly useful because it prevents the unit from running unnecessarily at the same setpoint during an extended absence.
LogisVert rebate: $950 listed on the AirGreen page, but the installation date remains decisive
The AirGreen product page currently lists a $950 LogisVert provincial rebate, according to its update dated November 26, 2025.
This value corresponds to the declared heating capacity at low temperatures and the rules applicable to the model when the information sheet was updated.
Nevertheless, the situation must be verified at the time of installation. Hydro-Québec specifies that heat pumps installed since November 26, 2025, must be ENERGY STAR certified to be eligible, and that the list of models and the amounts may change over time.
At AirGreen, we therefore prefer to confirm the AHRI number 215735292, the two exact models, and the scheduled installation date before presenting the final amount of financial assistance as guaranteed.
Warranty: an important difference to understand between the brochure and the AirGreen offer
The Senville brochure provided for this model indicates a warranty of 5 years on the compressor and 5 years on parts.
The AirGreen listing, for its part, shows 10-10-0 years of coverage and indicates that an additional warranty may be available.
These two pieces of information must not be mixed up. Applicable coverage may depend on the warranty program, registration, and commercial terms associated with the installation. We therefore always confirm with the customer the exact warranty stated on the quote.
What type of project do we primarily recommend the LETO 30,000 BTU for?
This heat pump is particularly worth considering for:
- a large residential open-concept area;
- a large basement;
- a loft;
- a workshop;
- an office;
- a commercial space;
- a large common area;
- a space where high airflow is required.
It is less suitable when a homeowner is primarily looking for:
- heating several isolated bedrooms behind closed doors;
- a heat pump intended for primary heating during extreme cold;
- a very compact indoor unit;
- a unit specifically designed according to ENERGY STAR – Cold Climate criteria.
Why professional sizing is especially important at 30,000 BTU
With a small heat pump, an error of a few thousand BTUs can already reduce comfort. With a 30,000 BTU unit, a sizing error becomes even more significant.

- the actual open area;
- air circulation;
- electrical capacity;
- the drain position;
- the refrigerant line route;
- the outdoor unit support;
- clearances;
- future access for maintenance.
