A 9,000 BTU mini-split that prioritizes the simplicity of 115 V without sacrificing efficiency

The SENVILLE LETO 9,000 BTU 115 V occupies a unique place among the wall-mounted heat pumps we evaluate at AirGreen. It is primarily intended for small spaces where a 9,000 BTU capacity is genuinely appropriate: a bedroom, home office, small living area, insulated workshop, compact condo, or specific area of a home that remains uncomfortable despite the main heating system.

For homeowners in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the South Shore, and the North Shore, its main technical advantage is easy to identify: this version operates on a 115 V power supply rather than the 208/230 V commonly used by wall-mounted heat pumps. This may simplify some electrical projects, but “115 V” should absolutely not be interpreted as “an appliance that can simply be plugged into an existing wall outlet.” We will return to this later, because this is precisely the kind of detail that distinguishes a product sheet from genuine HVAC installation planning.

The combination of interest consists of the SENL-09CD-OL outdoor unit and the SENL-09CD-ILL indoor unit, with reference number AHRI 215735286. The AHRI certificate confirms a rated cooling capacity of 9,000 BTU/h, a SEER2 of 21.5, an EER2 of 12.5, a rated heating capacity of 10,000 BTU/h, and an HSPF2 of 9.0 for Region IV.

Key technical data to consider before comparing this model

The Senville brochure provided with this product clearly identifies the LETO as a heat pump mini-split, intended for small spaces and capable of heating down to approximately -15 °C. The same documentation states a rating of 21.5 SEER2.

The technical table on page 4 of the brochure confirms, among other things, the 115 V power supply, the voltage range of 103.5 to 126.5 V, the SEER2 and EER2 ratings, the minimum circuit ampacity of 20 A, and the maximum overcurrent protection of 30 A.

Variable capacity rather than simply “9,000 BTU”

One point we often explain to our customers is that 9,000 BTU is not a fixed output that the unit produces continuously.

DC Inverter technology allows the compressor to modulate. Senville documentation specifies a range of 2,650 to 10,300 BTU/h in cooling and 2,700 to 10,500 BTU/h in heating.

This modulation capacity is particularly useful in a small space. A traditional heat pump that constantly starts and stops can create temperature fluctuations and reduce dehumidification quality. A properly sized Inverter heat pump can instead run longer at a low speed and gradually adjust its output.

In a bedroom or office, this also contributes to acoustic comfort. The compressor does not need to operate at maximum capacity every time the temperature changes slightly.

What area can we realistically target?

Senville associates this model with small spaces and mentions a general range of up to approximately 400 to 450 sq. ft., with a technical value of 400 sq. ft. for 8-foot ceilings.

At AirGreen, we never turn this information into an automatic rule.

A 300 sq. ft. room in the middle of a newer condo in Laval may have a very low heating and cooling load. A space of the same size on the top floor of a triplex in Montreal, with a large south-facing window and a roof directly above it, may require much more cooling during a July day.

The calculation depends in particular on insulation, windows, solar exposure, the number of exterior walls, ceiling height, and how air can circulate toward adjacent rooms.

That is why an experienced installer does not automatically recommend a 12,000 BTU unit when a customer says they want “a little more power.” In a space genuinely suited to 9,000 BTU, the LETO can operate more steadily and comfortably than an oversized unit.

21.5 SEER2: impressive efficiency for a unit in this category

With a 21.5 SEER2, the SENVILLE LETO offers seasonal cooling efficiency that is significantly higher than that of many older-generation systems.

Senville also attributes a consumption reduction of up to 48% under certain comparison conditions to its Inverter technology. This percentage should be treated as a manufacturer claim, not as a promise of an identical reduction on every property's Hydro-Québec bill. Actual consumption varies too greatly depending on the building, the requested temperature, the system being replaced, and usage habits. Nevertheless, the manufacturer explains that the Inverter compressor adjusts its output rather than operating solely in on-off mode.

For us, the most useful figure remains the certified rating AHRI 215735286, because it makes it possible to compare this specific combination with other heat pumps on a common basis.

Heating at -15 °C: understanding the LETO's limit precisely

The 9,000 BTU 115 V LETO can provide heating in cold weather, but it should not be presented as equivalent to a heat pump designed for -25 °C or -30 °C.

Senville also classifies its standard models among the units that can operate down to approximately -15 °C, while its product lines designed for more extreme temperatures are rated down to -30 °C.

The certification of the SENL-09CD-OL / SENL-09CD-ILL model shows what happens as the mercury drops: heating capacity falls from approximately 10,000 BTU/h at 8.3 °C to 8,000 BTU/h around -8 °C, then to approximately 6,500 BTU/h at -15 °C. The model is ENERGY STAR certified, but it is not classified as ENERGY STAR – cold climate.

For a property in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, or the South Shore, we therefore recommend retaining a supplemental heating source when this unit is used during the winter. Existing electric baseboards, for example, can take over when the temperature falls below the heat pump's practical operating range or when the building's heat losses exceed the available capacity.

This is an important distinction. A customer primarily looking for excellent air conditioning with supplemental heating in the fall and spring may find the LETO highly suitable. A homeowner who wants to maximize heat-pump heating during the coldest nights of January should instead compare this model with a cold-climate-certified heat pump.

115 V: an appealing advantage, but not an ordinary outlet

We regularly see homeowners automatically associate 115 V with a very simple electrical installation.

The SENVILLE LETO 9,000 BTU 115 V nevertheless requires a minimum circuit ampacity of 20 A, and Senville specifies a maximum protection of 30 A. The panel, conductor, disconnecting means, and appropriate protection must therefore all be checked as part of the project.

In other words, just because the equipment operates at a voltage comparable to that of ordinary household outlets does not mean we can install it on any existing circuit.

This 115 V version can nevertheless be very practical in certain buildings where adding a 230 V appliance would be less advantageous. We then assess the panel capacity and existing configuration before confirming the installation.

One of the most appealing aspects: only 22 dB(A) at low speed

For a bedroom or office mini-split, we place great importance on noise levels.

The LETO reaches 22 dB(A) at low speed. The stated levels are 22, 31, and 36.5 dB(A), depending on the indoor fan speed. Airflow ranges accordingly from approximately 129 to 247 CFM.

These features are particularly well suited to places where constant noise can quickly become bothersome: a primary bedroom, home office, studio, or small treatment room.

Sleep mode adds another interesting function. Senville provides for a gradual adjustment of the settings overnight to avoid unnecessarily maintaining an aggressive setpoint for several hours. The manufacturer also highlights dehumidification, fan, and Turbo modes.

Wi-Fi and Alexa: smart control is included

The documentation for the current LETO generation mentions Wi-Fi control, the Senville app, and compatibility with Amazon Alexa.

The owner can modify the temperature, turn the system on or off, and schedule operating times remotely. The brochure also specifies that an Alexa USB kit is one of the components listed with the product.

In an office, rental unit, or room used only a few hours a day, this scheduling may be more useful than having the heat pump maintain the same temperature 24 hours a day.

R454B: a new generation that requires proper installation

The LETO presented here operates with R454B refrigerant.

The specified charge is 25.4 oz, and the system is precharged for a piping length of up to 25 ft. Senville also indicates that an installation using a 50 ft kit requires an on-site refrigerant charge adjustment.

This is precisely where a professional heat pump installation becomes so important. Refrigerant connections, leak testing, evacuation, line length, and refrigerant charge must not be improvised.

R454B is an A2L-category refrigerant. It requires work methods, tools, and procedures compatible with this new generation of equipment. A proper installation therefore involves more than simply mounting two units and connecting two pipes.

LETO installation, use, and selection: our approach at AirGreen

A real Senville LETO installation in Montréal reminds us of the importance of positioning

AirGreen has already completed and documented a Montréal installation of an 18,000 BTU Senville LETO. It was not this new 9,000 BTU 115 V R454B version; the two configurations should therefore not be confused. However, the project remains highly relevant for understanding how we work with the LETO lineup.

For this installation, our team first determined the units’ positions to maintain good airflow. The outdoor unit was installed on brackets to limit vibrations, while the indoor unit was positioned to distribute air efficiently throughout the living space. The refrigerant lines were also carefully insulated.

This type of decision is even more important with a small 9,000 BTU unit. A moderate-capacity unit should not be installed in a corner simply because that location reduces the piping length. If the airflow immediately hits a wall or cannot reach the occupied area, the homeowner may ask for a much lower or higher temperature to compensate.

Where does this 9,000 BTU unit make the most sense?

We mainly consider it for a clearly defined room or zone rather than trying to condition an entire floor made up of several enclosed bedrooms.

A 250 sq. ft. office in Boucherville, a primary bedroom in a Laval condo, a small studio in Montréal, or a room added to a home on the South Shore are much more realistic scenarios than a large, partitioned ground floor.

In older homes, we also check the insulation before relying on floor area. A small space can have a surprisingly high heating or cooling load if two walls are exposed, the windows are old, or the room is directly beneath the roof.

The indoor unit is compact and makes certain challenging projects easier

With a width of only 28.43 in, a depth of 7.36 in, and a height of 11.42 in, the indoor evaporator is relatively compact. The outdoor unit measures approximately 30.12 × 11.93 × 21.85 in.

These dimensions may give us more options above a door or between two architectural features. Nevertheless, we must maintain the clearances specified by the manufacturer and sufficient access for maintenance.

A unit installed too close to the ceiling can become difficult to clean. An outdoor unit wedged against a wall may lack adequate airflow. We prefer to anticipate these issues when preparing the quote rather than turn them into a service call a few years later.

Maintenance: small habits that protect performance

For this type of mini-split, we recommend keeping the filters clean, visually checking the evaporator’s condition, monitoring drainage, and keeping the outdoor unit free of leaves, dust, snow, and vegetation.

In the Montreal area, drainage requires particular attention. In cooling mode, the indoor unit produces condensation water. An insufficient slope, a clogged drain, or a poorly chosen route can eventually lead to indoor water leakage.

When the evaporator becomes loaded with dust or organic matter, a deep cleaning of a wall-mounted heat pump restores airflow and cleans surfaces that cannot be reached during simple filter maintenance.

ENERGY STAR, but not “cold-climate”

The SENL-09CD-OL / SENL-09CD-ILL combination is listed as ENERGY STAR-certified equipment, while also being explicitly identified as not cold-climate in the current certification data.

This clarification is particularly important in Quebec because the terms ENERGY STAR and LogisVert are sometimes used as though they automatically mean that a heat pump qualifies for a rebate.

That is not the case.

For residential installations covered by the current LogisVert rules, Hydro-Québec requires, among other things, that a heat pump installed on or after November 26, 2025, be ENERGY STAR certified and that the outdoor unit have a rated cooling capacity of at least 12,000 BTU/h. Since this model has a rated capacity of 9,000 BTU/h, it does not meet this threshold for the current residential measure, even though it is ENERGY STAR certified.

We always verify the terms at the time of quoting, because program rules, eligible equipment lists, and rebate amounts may change.

Warranty: something to verify on the final quote

The Senville brochure currently provided with this model indicates a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty on the compressor and 5 years on parts. Senville’s technical page also publishes this coverage for the 115 V SENL-09CD-L.

Some product listings, distributor promotions, or additional coverage may display different terms. At AirGreen, we therefore recommend relying on the warranty stated on the final quote for the exact unit, rather than on information from an older generation of LETO.

This is particularly relevant with this product line, as several SENL-09CD versions have existed, including R410A, R454B, 115 V, and 208/230 V models.

Why we do not compare purchase prices alone

The LETO is positioned as a relatively accessible solution. However, the project’s actual cost also depends on the electrical work, piping length, outdoor support, line routing, working height, drainage, and the building’s specific characteristics.

A less expensive unit placed in the wrong location can become a poor investment. Conversely, this SENVILLE LETO 9,000 BTU 115 V can be a very sensible choice when installed in the right room and when the homeowner clearly understands its heating limit at approximately -15 °C.

Our practical verdict on the SENVILLE LETO 9,000 BTU 115 V

We focus mainly on four features: its compact size, 115 V power supply, excellent indoor quietness, and 21.5 SEER2 efficiency rating.

It is not our first choice for a homeowner who wants to maximize heating with their heat pump during Montreal’s extreme cold. For that purpose, a cold-climate-certified heat pump capable of operating at -25 °C or -30 °C will generally be better suited.

However, for efficiently cooling a small space, enjoying economical heating in milder temperatures, controlling the unit via Wi-Fi, and maintaining very low noise levels, the LETO offers a well-balanced combination.

The outcome then depends on what we do around the unit: sizing, positioning, electrical circuit, outdoor support, drainage, and piping 1/4 – 3/8, vacuuming, and commissioning.
