Quick facts
200 US gallons of reserve for the largest hot-water heating loops
The Thermo 2000 BuffMax BUFF200A-3NPT-HRZ-HT buffer tank is the largest in the BuffMax ASME series. Its 200 US gallon vessel, built to Section VIII, Division 1, of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, is installed between the heat source and the distribution of an entire building. The manufacturer designs it as a 3-in-1: buffer tank, storage tank and hydraulic separator.
For the largest heating loops
In a large multi-unit building in Montreal or an institutional building in Laval, heating demand changes with every thermostat, every schedule and every door that opens. An electric boiler or an air-to-water heat pump that follows these changes without a reserve starts and stops constantly. The BUFF200A’s 200 US gallons absorb these swings: the source runs longer cycles and the distribution draws what it needs. The four 3 in NPT connections, two on each side, keep the two circuits independent. These are precisely the situations the manufacturer targets: low-mass boilers, heat pump systems and multi-zone systems.
94 inches high: check the room first
The BUFF200A has the same 32-inch diameter as the 175-gallon size, but it reaches 94 inches in height. That is the first thing we check: clear height under the beams and ducts, door widths, stairs, the path from the truck. The supplied lifting lugs make handling easier, then the adjustable legs level the tank. Its 2-inch HFC-free polyurethane insulation holds the heat in: Thermo 2000 announces a loss limited to 1/2 °F per hour.
Technical points to validate with your engineer
- Heating water only: the HT code excludes chilled water, which requires a non-ASME HC BuffMax.
- Maximum working pressure of 125 psi, the ASME value published by Thermo 2000.
- No BXT option: centre connections are not available on ASME models.
- CRN number: the manufacturer’s documentation does not state one; we confirm it with Thermo 2000 if your specification requires it.
- Closed loop only: no connection to domestic hot water or to an atmospheric system.
Installation by AirGreen
We install the BUFF200A with electric boilers and air-to-water heat pumps, in Montreal, Longueuil, on the South Shore, on the North Shore and throughout Greater Montreal. After a free on-site estimate and a written quote, we plan the delivery, set the tank, connect it on the source side and the distribution side, install the supplied ball valve, air vent, temperature and pressure indicator, immersion well and drain valve, then fill, purge and commission the loop.
We are a family business established in Montreal for more than 15 years, with RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). On the manufacturer’s side, Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 5 years for heating and the mechanical parts for 2 years, in residential or commercial use, under its terms.
Send us the plans, the mechanical specification or a photo of your mechanical room: we confirm whether the BUFF200A fits and whether it suits your loop. Free estimate and financing available.
The largest BuffMax reserve for building heating loops
The BUFF200A is the largest size in the BuffMax ASME series. It acts as a buffer tank, a storage tank and a hydraulic separator in heating-water loops that serve an entire building.
- Large multi-unit residential building heated with water by an electric boiler
- Commercial or institutional building whose specification requires an ASME tank
- Loop supplied by an air-to-water heat pump serving many zones
- Tall mechanical room where a single large tank is preferable

What to know before installing
- 94 in high and 32 in in diameter: the mechanical room’s clear height and the delivery path are checked before ordering.
- Heating water only (HT code); chilled water requires an HC BuffMax, which is not ASME.
- Maximum working pressure of 125 psi (ASME); the BXT option (centre connections) is not available on ASME models.
- The manufacturer’s documentation does not state a CRN number: we confirm it with Thermo 2000 if your project requires one.
- Closed loop only: no connection to domestic hot water or to an atmospheric system.
- 1/2 in ball valve
- 1/2 in automatic air vent
- 2 1/2 in temperature and pressure indicator
- Immersion well
- 3/4 in drain valve
- Adjustable legs

Frequently asked questions
What kind of building is the BUFF200A designed for?
For the largest heating-water loops: large multi-unit buildings, commercial or institutional buildings, especially when the specification requires an ASME tank. The exact volume is chosen by calculation, based on the source and the zones.
How much space does the mechanical room need?
The tank is 94 in high and 32 in in diameter. You also need room for the 3 in piping on each side and access to the drain valve. We measure the room and the delivery path before ordering.
Which accessories come with the tank?
Thermo 2000 supplies a 1/2 in ball valve and automatic air vent, a 2 1/2 in temperature and pressure indicator, an immersion well, a 3/4 in drain valve, adjustable legs and lifting lugs.
Does the tank accept chilled water?
No. The HT code means heating water. HC versions of the BuffMax accept chilled water, but they are not built to the ASME code.
Does the warranty apply to commercial use?
Yes. Thermo 2000 warrants the tank for 5 years in heating applications and the mechanical parts for 2 years, in residential or commercial use, in Canada and the United States, under its terms.
