Quick facts
The oval ceiling boot terminates an oval duct at the ceiling. It takes the duct on one side and presents, on the other, the opening the grille sits on. Offered in 5 and 6 in, it completes the oval family for networks that run through shallow ceilings.
Supplying a room through the ceiling
In a condo, a floor with no access from below or a finished basement, it is often simpler to bring the air in through the ceiling. When that ceiling is thin, oval duct is the way to go, and it needs a boot made for it. Rather than switching back to round just before the grille — which would take more height — the oval ceiling boot connects directly to the duct. It is used on forced-air networks as well as on air exchanger networks.
Two sizes
Offered in 5 and 6 in, to match the oval duct that feeds it. The opening dimensions are not shown here: ask for them before choosing the grille and cutting the drywall.
Installation
- Hold the boot in place and trace the ceiling opening around its outline.
- Fasten the boot to the framing so the grille sits flat.
- Screw on the oval duct and seal the joint with aluminum tape or mastic.
- Also seal around the opening so the air does not escape into the ceiling.
The grille is not included.
