GENERAL AIRSTAGE CENTAURI R32 Central Heat Pump | 2.5 Tons - 30000 BTU
GENERAL AIRSTAGE CENTAURI AMUH30KUAS, 30,000 BTU: the Central Heat Pump you plan from the drawings of a new house or an addition
For anyone who reads specifications: the AMUH30KUAS air handler and the AOUH30KUAS1 outdoor unit sold under the GENERAL AIRSTAGE name are exactly the ones found under the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE name. The manufacturer only changed its corporate name, becoming GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026; model numbers, spec sheet and warranty remain intact.
This 30,000 BTU (2.5-ton) system is ideally planned before the first wall goes up. In new construction, or for an addition that will have its own system, the ducts are drawn at the same time as the framing, a mechanical closet is set aside in the right place, and the airflow direction is chosen according to the floor where the unit sits. Everything settled on paper costs less than what gets corrected once the drywall is up.
The flexibility of the multi-position air handler serves exactly that purpose: in the basement, it blows upward; in a closet upstairs, it blows downward. The duct system follows the house, not the other way around.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
After Paloma Rheem Holdings acquired Fujitsu General in August 2025 (the group has owned Rheem since 1988), the company has carried the name GENERAL Inc. since January 1, 2026. Kawasaki, Japan, is still home to the head office and the R&D centre; the factories have not changed, and every AIRSTAGE product keeps its model number and its warranty program. For supply, Groupe Master remains our distributor, while Rheem Canada took over Canadian sales in February 2026.
For a construction project, this detail has a practical consequence: drawings that specify the Fujitsu model designate exactly the unit sold under the GENERAL name, since the numbers are identical. The Fujitsu brand is being phased out gradually and both names coexist during the transition; that is why we show both product pages and the comparison table.

On the job site, a central heat pump comes down to three elements to coordinate: the air handler inside, the outdoor unit outside, and between the two a refrigerant line, a cable and a drain. The AMUH30KUAS air handler feeds the duct system through the supply plenum and takes air back through the return air; the AOUH30KUAS1 houses the Inverter compressor and the low global-warming-potential R-32 refrigerant.
The choice of position depends on the floor:
- upflow: the air handler is in the basement, in the mechanical room, and the ducts rise to the floors above;
- downflow: the air handler is in a closet upstairs and feeds ducts under the floor or in the ceiling of the floor below; the UTD-DFMMB1 kit is then required;
- horizontal left or right: the air handler lies flat in a service void or a finished attic if the plan has no closet for it.
The cabinet measures 21 × 21 × 48 in. (width, depth, height). On the drawings, the mechanical closet must hold it with working room in front, a door or access panel for maintenance and the filter, and the condensate drain close by. When possible, we keep it away from the bedrooms: the air handler runs at 32 dB(A) at its lowest and 43 dB(A) at its highest, which stays discreet, but a closet right against a bed is never the best choice.
A new duct system has a huge advantage: it is sized for the air handler. The unit delivers up to 1,000 CFM and accepts an external static pressure of 0.2 to 0.8 in. WC. The duct layout, the number of registers and the location of the return air are set with you during the visit, drawings in hand, so that every room gets its share of air.
A few items to plan before the walls are closed:
- the path of the refrigerant line (3/8 and 5/8 in. piping), the cable and the drain to the outdoor unit;
- the system’s 208/230 V circuit (MCA 24 A, MOP 25 A) and a dedicated power supply for the backup heat kit, if you install one;
- the wire for the wall control, if you choose one;
- the pad or bracket for the outdoor unit, whose dimensions appear in the table.
As for distances, you have a refrigerant line of at least 16 ft (5 m) and at most 164 ft (50 m), a possible height difference of 98 ft (30 m), and a precharge that covers 66 ft (20 m). In new construction, that margin leaves you free to put the outdoor unit where it bothers the least, away from bedroom windows and the patio; the outdoor unit is rated at 55.0 dB(A).
The manufacturer’s performance for this system: SEER2 of 19.0, HSPF2 of 10.0 and EER2 of 11.7, under AHRI certificate 217290595, with ENERGY STAR certification in the cold climate category (ID 4428947). In cooling, 30,000 BTU nominal over a range of 9,600 to 35,000 BTU; in heating, 32,000 BTU nominal at 8.3 °C over a range of 9,200 to 38,000 BTU. Dehumidification reaches 3.47 pints per hour, useful in a tightly sealed new house.
In winter, the manufacturer sets the heating operating limit at −21 °C, and its brochure speaks of operation with no low-temperature shutdown. At the test points, you read 22,200 BTU (COP of 2.96) at −8 °C and 29,400 BTU (COP of 2.18) at −15 °C; those two values come from different conditions and are read separately. For cold peaks, backup heat goes through the manufacturer’s compatible electric kit, bought separately, which the air handler manages with the backup mode chosen from those it offers.
A new house often has an HRV or an ERV. Thanks to the built-in input/output terminals, that ventilation unit works in step with the heat pump; that same terminal block also serves a humidifier, a fire alarm, a door switch or backup heat. No control is included: KAGAMI UTY-RVRU or UTY-RNRUZ5 wired controllers, Wi-Fi through the AIRSTAGE Mobile app, a third-party 24 V thermostat through the UTY-TTRXZ1 interface, or the IR receiver kit with wireless remote. BACnet and Modbus come into play if the addition houses a space run by a building management system.
For maintenance, plan access to the filter; a 20 × 20 in. filter base is available as an option. The built-in leak detection system monitors the refrigerant from commissioning on, and a compatible controller opens access to service monitoring.
The amount listed for this system on Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert list of October 27, 2026 is $2,664. Eligibility for new construction or an addition depends, however, on the program’s rules: we check it with you before that amount goes into your budget. For the project file: a warranty of 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts and 6 years on labour, and a bilingual manufacturer spec sheet, in the GENERAL version prepared by AirGreen, whose dimensioned drawings and performance data will serve your architect or general contractor.
It suits a new house or an addition whose load matches 2.5 tons. Capacity is validated from the drawings: if the load is lower or higher, the same series offers other capacities.
