One detail about the efficiency ratings deserves clarification. The AirGreen product page states SEER 19.7, EER 12.5, and HSPF 8.5, while the Senville technical brochure provided for this series lists SEER2 20.0, EER2 13.3, and HSPF2 Region 4 of 9.4.

We avoid arbitrarily combining these figures. The SEER and SEER2 designations, or HSPF and HSPF2, correspond to different evaluation methods. For a technical comparison, a quotation, or an eligibility check for a program, we always recommend working with the exact combination of units and the corresponding AHRI reference.

24,000 BTU does not mean constant operation at 24,000 BTU

Operation at -20 °C does not mean “cold-climate” certification

This is one of the most important distinctions of this SENVILLE.

The heat pump can operate in heating mode down to approximately -20 °C, but the AirGreen specification sheet identifies it as:

Its winter operating range must therefore not be interpreted as ENERGY STAR cold-climate certification.

For a homeowner in Laval, Boucherville, Longueuil, Terrebonne, Blainville, or Montreal who selects a system based on a subsidy, this difference is important. A heat pump that still produces heat at low temperatures is not automatically eligible for the same programs as a combination officially recognized as ENERGY STAR cold climate.

This value falls within a very common range for a residential central system and mainly shows why the ductwork must be checked before replacing an old unit.

We regularly encounter homes where the equipment can theoretically move 800 CFM or more, but where the existing network creates too much restriction: undersized return air, an overly restrictive filter, crushed ducts, a closed damper, or a poorly designed transition.

Under these conditions, installing a new heat pump without examining the ductwork can lead to air noise, insufficient airflow in certain rooms, and operation that does not reflect the performance indicated in the documentation.

The 1,200 sq. ft. area is only an indication

Senville presents this system as being suitable for a house, condo, or apartment of up to approximately 1,200 sq. ft.

Two 1,200 sq. ft. properties can have radically different heating loads.

A well-insulated bungalow on the South Shore, built recently and equipped with high-performance windows, may require much less heating than a duplex of comparable size in Montréal with older walls, numerous windows, and significant air infiltration.

  • building heat losses, insulation quality, and airtightness;
  • window area and orientation;

  • served floor and ceiling height;

Why oversizing remains a mistake even with an inverter

The inverter provides more flexibility than a traditional single-speed compressor, but it does not make sizing unimportant.

A system that is too large for the actual load can still have periods when it quickly reaches the requested temperature. In summer, this can reduce the time available for dehumidification. Top Discharge: why the outdoor unit’s design changes the installation

The term Top Discharge means that the outdoor fan primarily discharges air upward.

This format is familiar in the world of North American central systems and makes it possible to have a relatively compact outdoor unit at ground level.

The outdoor unit measures approximately 29.14 × 29.14 × 25 in and weighs approximately 143 lb net. Its maximum published outdoor airflow is 2,800 CFM.

An airflow of 2,800 CFM must not be blocked by a structure placed too close above the unit.

A unit wedged between three walls, beneath a very low balcony, or in a location where snow accumulates heavily does not benefit from the same conditions as a properly clear installation.

The published outdoor sound level is 58 dB(A). The indoor unit is rated at approximately 38 dB(A) at low speed and 42 dB(A) at high speed.

For a central system, however, the noise perceived in the home depends on much more than the equipment’s sound level.

Duct sizing, air speed, the return grille, the proximity of the furnace or fan coil to occupied rooms, and vibrations transmitted to the structure can considerably alter the actual experience.

Quiet equipment connected to an undersized return-air duct can become noisy at the register. That is why we consider the distribution network as part of the system, rather than as a secondary element.

A tall, narrow indoor unit

The indoor unit measures approximately 21.03 in × 21.03 in × 49.22 in and weighs 125 lb net.

This format can facilitate certain replacements in a relatively narrow mechanical room, but the available space must be measured precisely.

Vacuuming and refrigerant charge remain critical

An inverter system can adjust its capacity, but it cannot correct poor refrigeration installation.
