This does not mean that the unit does not heat in cold weather. The brochure indicates an official heating range down to -4 °F, or approximately -20 °C.

The difference lies mainly in the usage strategy.

We see this heat pump more as a solution for a property where:

  • Central air conditioning represents an important need;
  • The heat pump provides a large portion of the seasonal heating;
  • A backup system remains available when the cold becomes severe;
  • Cold Climate certification down to -30 °C is not a central requirement of the project.

The brochure's heating capacities provide a much more precise picture

Senville documentation provides several operating points:

  • 50,000 BTU/h at 47 °F, or approximately 8 °C
  • 30,000 BTU/h at 17 °F, or approximately -8 °C
  • 36,000 BTU/h at 5 °F, or approximately -15 °C
  • 32,000 BTU/h at -4 °F, or approximately -20 °C

The nominal heating range is between 11,000 and 52,000 BTU/h.

These figures differ slightly from the 27,000 BTU at -8 °C and 29,000 BTU at -15 °C currently provided on the AirGreen product sheet.

In a technical publication, this difference must be checked against the exact AHRI certificate rather than being arbitrarily combined.

What remains certain is that available capacity decreases in cold weather and must not be equated with the nominal capacity of 48,000 BTU.

A property may require 45,000 BTU/h of heating on an extremely cold day.
