Floor Console Heat Pump DURASTAR Sirius Heat | 9,000 BTU - R454B
Sirius Heat or Standard at 9,000 BTU: what the series changes
In Candiac, the living rooms of heritage houses are wrapped in continuous mouldings and original window frames that nobody wants drilled. When the annual maintenance says an old system is reaching the end of its life, the replacement has to happen without touching the woodwork. The DURASTAR Sirius Heat 9,000 BTU R454B floor console heat pump sits on the floor under a window, and its lines follow the baseboard rather than the old plaster.
The certificate’s measurements
- Seasonal efficiency of 27.2 SEER2, 15.1 EER2 and 10.9 HSPF2
- At -8 °C: 9,800 BTU/h, with a COP of 2.71
- At -15 °C: 11,300 BTU/h, with a COP of 1.84
- At -30 °C: 4,700 BTU/h, with a COP of 1.02
- Airflow of 441 CFM, 22 to 45 dB(A) indoors
The certificate lists 9,800 BTU/h at -8 °C and 11,300 BTU/h at -15 °C. The two points are measured separately; we show each one as published. These values come from certificate AHRI 215359248, published by NEEP. The -8 °C point is the one to look at for a living room: the measured capacity there exceeds the nominal rating of the size, in a unit whose cabinet is only 7.87 in deep.
What the Sirius Heat series adds to the 9,000 size
The Sirius Heat series is built for deep cold: heating continues down to -30 °C, a temperature at which the certificate still measures 4,700 BTU/h. The Standard series, in the same size, stops at a higher temperature and focuses first on cooling efficiency.
Why LogisVert shows $0 for this size
This system is not on the current list of heat pumps eligible for Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert program, which is why the spec sheet shows $0, even though it carries ENERGY STAR ID 3621145. The 12,000 and 16,000 BTU sizes of the same series are listed: if the grant decides the project, we compare the three sizes. Our financing options remain available in every case.

Choosing the wall section
We look for the one spot that avoids the woodwork: under a window, between two frames, against a solid panel. The console measures 31.26 x 7.87 x 24.45 inches and needs no high mounting, which preserves the cornices. The clearance in front of the supply grille is decided with you, with the furniture in place.
The opening, away from the woodwork
A single opening goes through the wall, behind the unit, at baseboard level. The 1/4 and 3/8 inch lines and the drain use this one passage. Our installations are fully surface-mounted, with no work inside the walls, and the finishing cover is painted to match the existing baseboard.
Vacuum and first settings
Once the connections are made, we pull a vacuum, check for leaks and open the charge. The unit connects at 220 V, with a minimum circuit ampacity of 15 A, a 15 A breaker and a dedicated circuit, installed after a panel load calculation. We then set the fan speeds and check the condensate drain in front of you.
The first days, then maintenance
- A three-minute delay on restart protects the compressor
- Defrost releases white vapour outdoors and pauses heating for a moment
- Light cracking sounds come from the cabinet as it expands with temperature
A burning smell, a tripping breaker or water inside call for a shutdown and a service call. Otherwise, the filters are rinsed every two weeks and an annual HVAC maintenance covers coils, condensate and connections; our cleaning service restores the heat exchangers after a few seasons.
