Packaged Heat Pump System York PH3 5 Ton Three-Phase | Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, South Shore and North Shore
Restaurants, clinics and showrooms: 5 tons of capacity in a compact cabinet
A dining room full on a Friday night, a clinic whose waiting room never empties, a showroom lit by spotlights behind a large storefront window: these light commercial spaces give off a lot of heat and must still stay comfortable from morning until closing. The 5 ton YORK PH3 heat pump in the 208/230 V three-phase version delivers 60,000 BTU/h of rated capacity in a cabinet whose footprint is no larger than 45.75 x 51.25 in. Installed on the roof, it leaves all of the indoor floor space to your customers, and its vertical discharge fan throws the air upward, away from your terrace. AirGreen carries out this type of installation for businesses located in Montreal, in Laval and in Longueuil, as well as on the North Shore and the South Shore.
A high heat load, calculated precisely
In a restaurant or a clinic, the heat does not come from the sun alone. Every person present, every light fixture, every piece of equipment running adds its share, and the occupants also bring moisture. The heat load of such a space is therefore high and variable. The performance tables in the YORK guide break down the total capacity and the sensible capacity of the PH3 according to indoor and outdoor temperatures: we use them to confirm that the unit will remove both the heat and the moisture from your space. If the calculation confirms it, 5 tons in a single unit simplifies the installation; if not, we propose another configuration.
A packaged heat pump brings the compressor, the coils and the supply fan together in a single outdoor cabinet. The supply and return ducts connect it to the space, from below through the roof curb or from the side. In winter, the same machine heats by reversing its cycle, and an electric kit can supplement its capacity.
A lot of moisture, so a lot of condensate
The more moisture the unit removes, the more water it produces. Under the indoor coil, a corrosion-resistant, fully sealed pan collects and drains all the condensate, leaving no standing water; its design meets ASHRAE 62 (ventilation and indoor air quality). The 3/4 in. female NPT drain connection is rigidly mounted for a leak-free hookup; we then route the drain to a suitable discharge point on the roof.

The direct-drive indoor fan uses a 1 HP ECM motor. The indoor coil has four rows, and the outdoor coil, with 26.4 ft² of face area, is the largest in the PH3 line.
The rooftop installation, step by step
- The support. We validate the roof and choose the curb: a YORK roof curb, NRCA approved, 8 or 14 in. high, or a transition kit if an existing curb from another generation or another manufacturer has to be kept.
- The lift. The unit weighs 504 lb as shipped. Its perimeter base rails are drilled with lifting holes meant for the crane and protect the cabinet during transport.
- The anchoring. The unit is secured to its structure with the YORK roof mounting kit, certified to resist wind loads.
- The connections. The vertical openings fit between standard joists 24 in. on centre. On the electrical side, without a heat kit, the circuit must provide a minimum circuit ampacity of 29.5 A, protected at no more than 45 A by an HACR breaker or a time-delay fuse, with a field-installed disconnect.
- The commissioning. We check the clearances, including 36 in. above the vertical discharge fan, then set the indoor fan speeds to suit your duct system.
Fresh air, economizer and CO2 control
A densely occupied space needs outdoor air. For the PH3, YORK offers modulating integrated economizers, in a vertical or a horizontal version, which can run at the same time as mechanical cooling. Their independent-blade dampers show a leakage rate below 1%, and the assembly includes a hood with a bird screen and a temperature sensor. Single or dual enthalpy sensors improve outdoor air management, and CO2 detection kits, mounted in the duct, on the unit or on the wall, command the economizer when CO2 goes past the preset limits. For simpler needs, a manual or motorized damper provides 0 to 50% outdoor air. One technical detail we check: according to YORK, if the return duct resistance is below 0.25 in. w.c., the unit delivers less air when the economizer runs entirely on outdoor air.
Cooling even in cool weather
A packed room can call for cooling in spring or in fall. In its standard configuration, the PH3 cools down to an outdoor temperature of 55 °F (12.8 °C). The low ambient kit offered by YORK extends cooling operation down to 0 °F (-17.8 °C).
Three-phase backup heat
For this model, the three-phase 6HK kits run from 10 to 25 kW. The 25 kW kit heats in two stages and delivers 22 kW at 230 V, which is 75,200 BTU/h, or 18 kW at 208 V. The 20 and 25 kW kits include their own breakers, and the S1-2SPWK035 single point wiring kit makes it possible to bring only one power feed to the unit. With the 25 kW kit on a single feed, the minimum circuit ampacity rises to 92.0 A at 208 V or 98.7 A at 230 V, for a maximum overcurrent protection of 110 A: your electrician needs to know this before preparing the service.
Your commercial project, managed by AirGreen
In a business, every day of work counts. So we prepare everything ahead of time. The free on-site estimate lets us assess your space, its occupancy, its equipment, the duct system, the roof and the three-phase electrical service. We calculate the load, recommend the options worth having, such as the economizer or the backup kit, and plan the lift with you. Our crews install, connect and commission the unit quickly and efficiently, and then we can look after the regular maintenance of your equipment.
