Connected directly to the 575 V of your plant, with no transformer

In Quebec's industrial parks, 575 V three-phase power is very common. Yet the administrative offices, the employee lounge or the cafeteria of a plant need the same comfort as an office building. Without a unit designed for that voltage, you have to add a step-down transformer, which takes up space and adds weight to the project. This 3 ton YORK WN packaged heat pump connects directly to the building's 575 V service. AirGreen offers it and installs it in industrial buildings in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore.

What 575 V changes for your electrical installation

According to the YORK electrical tables, this model (standard belt-drive fan, without a powered convenience outlet) calls for a minimum circuit ampacity (MCA) of only 8 A, with a fuse of 15 A at most, when no electric heat is added. For comparison, the same unit in 208/230 V three-phase calls for 20.8 A. The allowable applied voltage runs from 540 to 630 V.

For backup heat, three electric kits are offered in 575 V: E10, E15 and E20. With the largest one, the MCA reaches 33.5 A and the maximum fuse 35 A. In 575 V, kits of 20 kW and up work in two stages, which avoids calling on the full capacity at once when demand is moderate. The nickel-chrome elements have an automatic reset limit, and the heat section slides out of the unit for maintenance.

Comfortable offices and employee lounge, in the heart of the plant

A packaged heat pump brings together in a single outdoor cabinet the scroll compressor, the outdoor coil, the indoor coil and the two fans. Set on the roof of the administrative block or on a pad along the wall, it feeds a network of ducts separate from the one in the production area. In summer, it cools the offices; in winter, it reverses its cycle to heat, and the electric kit tops up the heat in deep cold. Everything runs on electricity, with no combustion and no vent to maintain.

The 3 ton capacity suits a group of offices or a medium-size employee lounge well. The load calculation remains the decisive step: the occupancy, the heat given off by nearby equipment and the glazing can tip the choice toward 4 or 5 tons. Since the 3 to 5 ton models share the same cabinet and the same roof curb, that choice can even be made after the curb is installed.

An economizer already installed at the factory

This is the factory configuration we offer in 575 V for the 3 ton WN, and it is complete: belt-drive indoor fan (standard static pressure), economizer without barometric relief damper, RDS refrigerant detector, Smart Equipment control with BACnet MS/TP, Modbus or N2 communication card, standard coils and 1 in. disposable filters. During the estimate, we confirm with you that it meets the needs of your space.

The economizer can bring in up to 100% outdoor air. When the outdoor air is cool enough, it cools the offices without running the compressor, a welcome advantage when the offices stay warm in spring and in fall. Its low-leakage AMCA 511 Class 1A dampers hold leakage to 3 CFM per ft² at 1 in. of static pressure, and every economizer goes through a 60,000 cycle test. The spring-return modulating damper motors close the dampers completely during a power failure. A barometric relief damper, with rain hood and bird screen, can be added to relieve the pressure build-up in the space.

A control that integrates with the building automation

The factory-installed communication card adds to the Smart Equipment control a BACnet MS/TP gateway that can also be programmed to N2 or to Modbus, the latter being well known in industrial settings. On site, the LCD screen displays the supply air, return air and outdoor air temperatures as well as the fault codes, and the USB port is used to retrieve the fault history and a start-up report, and to update the software. The board monitors each pressure switch and each freeze protection independently, applies an anti-short-cycle delay and keeps the last five alarms, even after a power outage.

Process cooling: a check to make before buying

The Smart Equipment control allows cooling down to 0 °F (-17.8 °C) outdoors when the unit serves people's comfort. For an electrical room or a computer room, YORK asks that its applications department be consulted, and accessories may be required for stable operation below 30 °F (-1.1 °C). If your offices sit next to a room of that type, we make that check with the manufacturer before proposing the unit to you.

Options for demanding industrial environments

  • Outdoor or indoor coils with an epoxy coating (E-Coat) against corrosion, offered as a factory option by YORK.
  • Coil guard and hail guard, installed in the field.
  • Stainless steel condensate pan for corrosive environments.
  • Galvanized steel cabinet, powder paint finish proven by a 750-hour salt spray test.

Lifting and installation on an industrial roof

On a plant roof, access is often by crane: the unit rests on permanently fixed base rails, drilled for lifting and reachable by forklift from three sides, which also protect it during transport. The duct connections are made from below or horizontally, and the power supply enters from the side or from below. Plan for 72 in. of clear space above the unit for the condenser air discharge.

AirGreen, a single point of contact for the comfort of your industrial offices

The free on-site estimate is the first step: a survey of the roof or of the location at grade, a check of the 575 V distribution, the load calculation for the offices and the choice of heat kit. Our teams then coordinate the delivery, the lift, the connections and the start-up, then the planned maintenance of the filters, the belts and the economizer.
