Packaged Heat Pump System York WN 3 Ton Three-Phase | Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, South Shore and North Shore
A rooftop unit that speaks the language of your building management system
An office suite on the second floor of a commercial building, a storefront on a busy street, a professional practice in a small shopping centre: these spaces are often supplied in 208/230 V three-phase and, in many cases, tied into a building management system. This 3 ton YORK WN packaged heat pump comes from the factory with the Smart Equipment control and its BACnet MS/TP, Modbus or N2 communication card. The manager sees it and drives it like the rest of the equipment. AirGreen installs it and commissions it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore.
One card, three communication protocols
On this model, the communication card is installed at the factory. To all the functions of the Smart Equipment control it adds a BACnet MS/TP gateway, which can be programmed in Modbus or in N2. In practice, the unit fits into the network already in place in the building rather than running on its own. For an owner who manages several tenants, it means being able to follow the rooftop units from the management station and to line up their schedules with those of the building.
Occupied mode is commanded from the thermostat or from the management system. Smart Equipment boards leave the factory with a jumper between the R and OCC terminals; as long as it is in place, the unit stays in occupied mode permanently. Our technicians remove it at commissioning so that your occupancy schedules are actually respected. The terminal block also includes an OCC terminal, which receives the occupancy signal from the thermostat, and an X terminal, which passes fault states to compatible thermostats for display.
What the manager sees and what the manager can set
- Supply air, return air and outdoor air sensors installed at the factory, with no additional field wiring.
- A built-in LCD screen, with a joystick and buttons, that shows the status of the unit, the current mode, the temperatures and the fault codes.
- A USB port for data logging, the fault history, software updates and the self-test and start-up reports.
- Energy consumption tracking functions that make it possible to adjust operation according to the hours and the occupancy rate.
- Fully programmable fan delays on start-up and on shutdown, set separately for heating and for cooling.
- An option to lock out the compressors when the outdoor temperature is low, and mechanical cooling possible down to 0 °F (-17.8 °C) thanks to the built-in low ambient control.
- Memory of the last five alarms, kept even through a power failure.
The packaged principle, seen from an office suite
A packaged heat pump groups the scroll compressor, the two coils and the two fans in a single cabinet installed outdoors, usually on the roof. It connects to the supply and return ducts that serve the workstations, the meeting room or the sales floor. For your occupants, that means a ceiling free of any mechanical equipment and maintenance done on the roof, without disturbing employees or customers. Fan performance measurement ports, located outside the cabinet, even make it possible to check the airflow without removing a panel.

Three-phase supply: the numbers for your electrician
According to the YORK electrical tables, this model with the standard belt-drive blower, without a powered convenience outlet, calls for an MCA (minimum circuit ampacity) of 20.8 A and a fuse or breaker of no more than 30 A without electric heat. The compatible backup heat kits run from E05 to E20; with the E20 kit, the MCA rises to 75.9 A at 208 V and 84.6 A at 230 V. At 208/230 V, the kits of 16 kW and up work in two stages, and all of them are wired for a single-point power supply. The allowable applied voltage runs from 187 to 252 V.
YORK also offers from the factory a phase monitor that shuts the unit down on a phase fault to keep it from being damaged, a dirty filter switch and smoke detectors. These sensors are not part of the configuration presented here; we tell you which ones are relevant for your building.
Three factory configurations in three-phase
Offered on this page, the WN036C00B2AAACA1A1 is built around communication: BACnet / Modbus / N2 card and RDS refrigerant detector installed at the factory, belt-drive supply blower (standard static pressure), standard coils and 1 in. disposable filters, but no economizer. YORK builds two three-phase variants:
- WN036C00B2CAACA1A1: adds an economizer (without a barometric relief damper), with AMCA class 1A low-leak dampers and up to 100% outdoor air.
- WN036C00B2CBACA1A1: adds the same economizer as well as a factory-installed disconnect, on top of the RDS.
In both of these versions, the economizer is fully integrated with the Smart Equipment control, which manages the changeover between mechanical cooling and outdoor air. We confirm the right configuration during the estimate, after reviewing your fresh air needs and your control architecture.
Getting the installation right in an occupied building
We plan the crane lift using the lifting holes in the full-length base rails, and we coordinate the network connection with your controls integrator. The duct connections are made from below or horizontally, even with an economizer. The power wiring and the control wiring enter through separate openings, on the side or from below, which limits the number of roof penetrations.
The belt-drive blower has an adjustable-pitch drive pulley: at commissioning, we set the airflow to the actual static pressure of your ducts. In winter, the heat pump heats the suite first, with 36,000 BTU/h at 47 °F (8.3 °C) and 21,000 BTU/h at 17 °F (-8.3 °C). When the demand goes beyond what it can deliver, the electric kit tops up the heat. We size it from the real heat loss, taking into account the glazing of a storefront and the schedules programmed in the management system.
