A 5-ton R-410A unit designed for industrial 575 V

Around Montreal, whether in Laval, in Longueuil, on the North Shore or on the South Shore, many industrial buildings are fed at 575 V three-phase and keep a fleet of equipment on R-410A. The 5-ton YORK Sunline XN (60,000 BTU/h nominal) in its 575 V version fits that logic: a rooftop packaged heat pump that connects to your electrical distribution and uses the refrigerant your teams already know. At AirGreen, we install it to cool and heat offices, mezzanines and staff rooms.

Connected directly to your 575 V distribution

The unit is built for 575 V three-phase at 60 Hz. No step-down transformer is needed to feed it, and the YORK guide allows an operating voltage from 540 to 630 V. For the configuration delivered, without electric heat, the guide's table gives an MCA (minimum circuit ampacity) of 9.9 A and a protective device of no more than 15 A, a time-delay fuse or an HACR breaker.

For backup heat, in 575 V the guide lists the E10, E15, E20 and E30 kits, that is 10.6, 15.9, 21.2 and 30.4 kW. The nickel-chrome elements, wired to a single supply, are protected by auto-reset thermal limit switches.

Base rails: from the forklift to the crane

The perimeter base rails, permanently fastened, form a rigid footing and protect the unit during transport. They give forklift access on three sides, which makes handling in the yard or on the dock easier. Lifting holes at the four corners then allow the unit to be hoisted onto the roof with a crane.

The XN060 weighs 625 lb shipping and 620 lb in operation. The YORK guide gives the centre of gravity and the load at each support point: on four-point support, 132, 117, 174 and 197 lb. These figures help the engineer validate the roof structure. If the roof is not well suited to it, the XN series can also rest on a pad at grade or on steel beams above the finished roof.

The low-ambient control, for cooling out of season

An industrial building often gives off heat all year long. The built-in low-ambient control lets the XN060 cool down to 0 °F (-17.8 °C) outdoors with no additional accessory, in a comfort application for the occupants. This model also includes an economizer, which cools with outdoor air when it is cool enough. Proven over 60,000 cycles, it carries low-leakage dampers certified to AMCA 511 Class 1A, which close on their own during a power failure. The control can be programmed to lock out the compressor in cold weather or when this free cooling is available.

To cool an electrical room or a server room, the YORK guide recommends instead contacting its applications department, since additional accessories may be needed for stable operation. We make that check with you right at the estimate.

A control the maintenance team reads at a glance

Fitted as standard on every XN heat pump, the Smart Equipment control comes with factory-installed supply, return and outdoor air temperature sensors. Its LCD screen and its control knob give access to the unit's status, the function under way and the fault codes. Through the USB port, your technician pulls the data log, the current and previous faults as well as the self-diagnostic and start-up reports.

To avoid needless calls, the compressor is locked out only after three trips of the pressure switches or of the freeze thermostats within two hours, and the last five alarms stay in memory even after a power failure. In dusty settings, we adjust how often the 1 in. disposable filters are changed, and a dirty filter switch can be added as an accessory.

Technical data for the 575 V XN060

  • Net AHRI cooling: 55,400 BTU/h

  • Efficiency: SEER 14.0, HSPF 8.0 and EER 11.0 (the former rating standard, the only one published for the XN series)
  • Airflow: 1,850 CFM (ft³/min)
  • Power supply: 575 V, three-phase, 60 Hz
  • Dimensions: 44.88 x 82.25 x 32.63 in. (width x length x height)
  • Operating weight: 620 lb
  • Outdoor sound level: 80 dB(A), AHRI 270 rating
  • Refrigerant: R-410A, a previous-generation refrigerant, proven technology

Configuration delivered: XN060C00B5C1AAA1A2

This model number corresponds to a unit with a standard static pressure indoor fan, belt-driven, with an economizer without a barometric relief damper. It has no service option and no optional sensor, and it comes with the stand-alone Smart Equipment control and standard coils. It is delivered with no factory-installed electric heat (code C00). Since it has no built-in disconnect, the disconnect is supplied on site and fastened at the location YORK provides on the cabinet.

A build that holds up in an industrial setting

  • Galvanized steel cabinet, powder paint finish certified to the 750-hour salt spray test (ASTM B117)
  • Scroll compressor with internal spring isolation and sound attenuation, externally isolated on an independent mount
  • Start-up and operation possible up to 125 °F (52 °C) outdoors
  • Internal compressor protection, high and low pressure switches and freeze thermostats
  • Accessories offered: coil guard, hail hood and burglar bars for the supply and return openings

The packaged principle in a plant or a warehouse

A packaged unit groups the compressor, the coils, the fans, the filters and the control in a single outdoor cabinet. The refrigerant circuit stays entirely inside the unit: no refrigerant line runs through the plant. Only the supply and return ducts drop down to the offices or the mezzanine served, from the bottom of the unit or horizontally depending on the route. Every unit is charged, wired and tested at the factory, which shortens the work on site.

Installation pointers

  1. Plan the 575 V circuit and the disconnect, then confirm the rating according to the heat kit chosen.
  2. Have the roof load validated: a 620 lb unit, an 8 or 14 in. roof curb and the load distribution from the YORK guide.
  3. Plan the crane access and the forklift handling before the day of the lift.
  4. Leave 24 in. clear in front of the unit, 36 in. behind and on the left side (economizer and filters), 24 in. on the right side and 72 in. above.
  5. Bring the supply in on the side or from below the unit, at a single point, to limit the penetrations.

Our teams at the service of your industrial building

A Montreal HVAC contractor, AirGreen sells and installs its equipment. For a 575 V project, everything starts with a free on-site estimate: we survey the rooms to be served, the electrical service and the roof. We then size the unit and the backup heat, we coordinate the lift and our teams handle the installation, the commissioning and the maintenance.

We work in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore. To arrange the visit, call 514 316-2973 or go through the contact form on airgreen.ca.
