The whole system in a single cabinet, on the roof

A packaged heat pump brings the compressors, the coils, the fans and the controls together in a single outdoor cabinet. Set on a roof curb, on a pad or on a structure, it connects directly to the building's supply and return ducts. For a business, the gain is concrete: no indoor unit takes up sales or storage space, and our technicians work on the roof without disturbing your customers. The same machine cools in summer and heats by heat pump the rest of the year, with the option of adding electric backup heat.

Every Sun Pro unit leaves the factory charged with refrigerant, wired, piped and tested. It runs on R-410A, the previous-generation refrigerant: a proven technology that refrigeration technicians know well.

Two compressors, two stages, efficiency measured at part load

The two scroll compressors feed two independent refrigeration circuits, with steps at 50% and 100% of capacity. On a mild day, one compressor can be enough; the second comes in when the sun hits the storefront or the space fills up. This staging limits on-off cycling and helps hold a steady temperature for your customers and your staff. A compressor swap function (lead-lag), selectable on the control board, can also even out their running hours.

The efficiency ratings reflect that behaviour. The 11.2 EER measures full-load performance, while the 14.6 IEER, obtained with the IntelliSpeed drive, takes part-load operation into account and gives a better picture of a real season of use. Like every unit of 6 tons and up, this model is rated in EER and IEER, not in SEER.

• IntelliSpeed drive with high static pressure drive package (3 HP motor): the supply fan speed varies with the number of compressors or heating stages running, and the minimum economizer position is set according to the drive frequency.
• Economizer with barometric relief damper, to take advantage of cool outdoor air in the shoulder seasons.
• Phase monitor, which protects the unit against phase loss and reverse rotation.
• Stand-alone Smart Equipment control, compatible with a thermostat or a zone sensor.
• Standard coils, without E-Coat coating.

The Sun Pro strengths that simplify day-to-day management

Fast, tool-free maintenance

Tool-free hinged panels give access to the control box, the compressors, the filters, the motor and the indoor blower. The non-corrosive condensate pan slides out the back of the unit for cleaning, and service windows cut into both condenser walls make coil inspection easier. The motor-and-blower assembly slides out, and a second nameplate, placed inside the control door, stays legible despite the weather.

A control that reports clearly

The Smart Equipment board has an LCD screen and a navigation joystick: unit status, supply, return and outdoor temperatures, fault codes. Its USB port lets you review the fault history, run software updates and pull the self-test and start-up reports. The air sensors are factory-installed, the supply voltage is monitored for brownouts, and an anti-short-cycle delay protects the compressors. If a safety device trips three times in two hours, only the associated compressor is locked out, and a message is displayed.

A build designed for the roof

Freeze thermostats on the suction line, solid-core filter driers, high and low pressure switches and crankcase heaters are standard equipment. The galvanized steel cabinet gets a powder paint proven by a 750-hour salt spray test. The built-in low-ambient control allows cooling down to 0 °F (-17.8 °C) outdoors with no additional component, useful for spaces that give off heat even in winter.

Getting the 208/230 V three-phase installation right

• Power supply: the YORK guide calls for an applied voltage of 187 to 252 V. We check the three-phase service and the panel capacity, especially if backup heat is planned.
• Electric heat: for this size, YORK offers 9, 18, 24 or 36 kW kits, designed for a single-point power connection.
• Roof curb: available in 8 in. or 14 in., with an insulated deck. The roof curb is common to the whole Sun Pro series from 6.5 to 12.5 tons, and a 10 in. transition curb makes it possible to reuse the footprint of an older Sunline unit from 7.5 to 12.5 tons.
• Lifting: the full-perimeter base rails have lifting holes for the crane and fork slots on three sides.
• Clearances: 72 in. above, 36 in. at the front, at the back and on the left, 12 in. on the right.
• Ducts: bottom or side connection; the conversion is done by moving the factory covers, with no panel cutting.
