Comfort for factory offices, on a 575 V supply
In a factory or a warehouse, the production floor has its own systems, but the offices, the cafeteria and the control room need steady comfort, summer and winter. The 5 ton YORK Sun Core XQE (60,000 BTU/h nominal) in its 575 V three-phase version is an R-410A packaged heat pump that connects directly to the electrical distribution of your industrial building. AirGreen, an HVAC contractor in Montreal, installs it in the industrial sectors of Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore.
Three spaces, three ways to use the same unit
The offices
Occupied on a fixed schedule, offices benefit from a programmable thermostat with an occupancy schedule. The Smart Equipment control accepts a conventional 24 V thermostat or a zone sensor, and the fan delays are adjusted independently for heating and for cooling.
The cafeteria
At mealtime, occupancy climbs all at once. An economizer can bring in up to 100% outdoor air, and a CO2 sensor wired to the control allows ventilation based on demand. YORK also offers powered exhaust fans in 575 V, which push out the excess air when the economizer is open.
The control room
The equipment in it gives off heat in every season. Thanks to the built-in low-ambient control, the XQE cools down to 40 °F (4 °C) outdoors, with no added component. To go lower, YORK offers a head pressure control kit, installed in the field, that varies the airflow through the outdoor coil. If the room houses critical equipment, we confirm the application with you before choosing the unit.
A direct 575 V supply
Built at the factory for 575 V three-phase (60 Hz), the unit accepts, according to the YORK guide, an applied voltage between 540 and 630 V. For backup heat, two electric kits of 13.8 kW and 23 kW are offered in 575 V for this model. They are installed in the field, with the hardware and connectors supplied.
- Non-fused disconnect switch of 60 or 100 A offered as a factory option, with its rating checked against the heat kit selected
- Through-the-base electrical entry kit, which avoids drilling the roof one more time
- 120 V receptacle protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter, offered as a factory option, powered by the unit or wired in the field
Heating the spaces in winter
In heat pump mode, the XQE delivers 54,500 BTU/h when it is 47 °F (8.3 °C) outdoors, and still 30,600 BTU/h at 17 °F (-8.3 °C). The capacity of a heat pump drops as it gets colder: the 13.8 kW or 23 kW kit then covers the difference. We choose it from the heat loss of the offices and the cafeteria, taking into account the dock doors or the partitions that separate them from the warehouse.
Filtration in a dusty environment
As standard, the unit takes four 16 x 16 x 2 in. MERV 4 disposable filters. Where production dust travels, we can move up to a MERV 8 or MERV 13 rating, installed through the tool-less filter access panel. We then match the replacement interval to the reality of your building.

Built to last in an industrial environment
On the galvanized steel of the cabinet, YORK applies a powder paint that has passed the 750 hour salt spray test of the ASTM B117 standard. As an option, an epoxy polymer E-Coat coating protects the indoor and outdoor coils against corrosion and limits galvanic action between aluminum and copper. The standard coils are leak checked at 150 psig and pressure tested, at 450 psig for the indoor coil and at 650 psig for the outdoor coil.
Assembled in Norman, Oklahoma, in an ISO 9001 registered plant, every unit goes through a fully automated run test at the end of the line. YORK also puts it through a vibration test to the ASTM D4169 standard to make shipping more reliable, and it is certified to the CSA C22.2 No. 236 (UL 1995) standard. Supply air or return air smoke detectors, which stop the unit when smoke is present, and burglar bars for the duct openings round out the offering.
Why a packaged heat pump in an industrial building
The packaged heat pump holds the whole system in a single cabinet set on the roof: scroll compressor, coils, fans, filters and control. The ducts run down to the offices, the cafeteria or the control room, with no refrigerant line inside the plant and no unit hanging above the workstations. The same unit cools in summer and heats in winter.
Smart Equipment and building integration
As standard, the Smart Equipment control provides an LCD screen, a USB port for data logging and updates, as well as three factory-installed sensors (supply air, return air and outdoor air). If your plant has a building management system, a communication card (BACnet MS/TP, Modbus or N2), offered as a factory option, lets you follow the unit from that system. The FDD module, offered as an option, watches the refrigerant circuit and reports any abnormal operation. Another protection that is useful on an industrial electrical network: the control detects voltage drops and puts the unit out of harm's way.
Steps of a 575 V project
- Visit of the spaces to be served and load calculation for each space.
- Verification of the 575 V circuit, the disconnect switch and the backup heat kit.
- Choice of the roof curb: YORK curbs of 14 or 24 in., with insulated decks, shipped knocked down.
- Crane lift of the 627 lb unit, by the lifting points on the base rails.
- Clearances: 36 in. at the front, 12 in. on the left, 18 in. on the right, 72 in. above and, at the back, 18 in. or 36 in. if the unit takes an economizer or a powered exhaust fan.
