Warehouse, workshop or reception hall: 7.5 tons in 575 V for large spaces

Large spaces each have their own rhythm. A warehouse holds a fairly steady load, a workshop builds up the heat of its machines, and a reception hall goes in a few minutes from an empty room to a crowd of guests. The 7.5 ton YORK Sun Core XXE packaged heat pump answers these three situations with two scroll compressors, two stages of cooling and an IEER of 15.1, on a 575 V three-phase supply. AirGreen installs it in the commercial and industrial buildings of Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore.

Three large spaces, three ways to benefit from two stages

The warehouse

With low occupancy and moderate heat gains, the first compressor, that is half the capacity, can be enough. In the shoulder seasons, the economizer takes over with cool outdoor air when conditions allow it.

The workshop

The equipment, the lighting and the door openings make the load vary through the shift. The second compressor starts when the temperature climbs, then stops when demand comes back down.

The reception hall

Here, the load changes all at once when the guests arrive. The two stages make it possible to cool the hall at partial capacity before the event, then to move to full capacity as it fills up.

In all three cases, the EER of 11.5 measures the efficiency at full load, while the IEER of 15.1, obtained with the IntelliSpeed drive, takes part-load operation into account. This 7.5 ton model is rated in EER and IEER, not in SEER.

A packaged unit on the roof, tied to the 575 V network

A packaged heat pump holds the whole system in a single outdoor cabinet: the two compressors, the coils, the fans and the control board. On the roof or on a pad, it connects to the supply and return ducts, cools in summer and heats by heat pump the rest of the year. In a building supplied at 575 V, it connects to the existing distribution, within an applied voltage range of 540 to 630 V according to the YORK guide. It runs on R-410A, a previous-generation refrigerant and a proven technology, and each compressor feeds its own independent refrigerant circuit.

The XXE08A5B3AA1B111A2 configuration

According to the Sun Core nomenclature, this model is delivered with a medium static pressure belt-drive indoor fan, an IntelliSpeed drive, a dry bulb economizer, the Smart Equipment control and standard coils. It includes no convenience receptacle, no disconnect switch and no factory electric heat: those items are planned in the field, according to the needs of your building. The supply, return and outdoor air temperature sensors are installed at the factory.

Economizer and variable-speed drive: fresh air managed precisely

The dry bulb economizer turns on free cooling when the outdoor temperature drops below its setpoint. Its low-leakage dampers, certified AMCA 511 class 1A, can bring in up to 100% outdoor air, and single or dual enthalpy kits, installed in the field, can refine the changeover based on humidity. For a full reception hall or a workshop, a powered exhaust fan in 575 V, designed for the large cabinet, can be added. The IntelliSpeed drive, for its part, varies the speed of the supply fan according to the number of compressors or heating stages running.

Heating a large space in 575 V

The heat pump delivers 84,000 BTU/h at 47 °F and 49,000 BTU/h at 17 °F. To make up the difference, the YORK electrical tables list two electric heat kits in 575 V for this model, of 17 kW and 34 kW, installed in the field. We choose the kit from the heat loss of your building and size the disconnect switch accordingly.

What to plan for at installation

  • Roof curb: rigid large cabinet curbs of 14 in. (1RC0457) or 24 in. (1RC0459), with an insulated deck. The full perimeter base rail was designed to fit many existing curbs, which we verify on site.
  • Lifting: 976 lb in operation; the rails have holes for the lifting shackles and for the forks of a forklift.
  • Clearances: plan 48 in. in front of the unit, 36 in. behind (with an economizer), 18 in. on the right, 12 in. on the left and 72 in. clear above.
  • Ducts: supply and return convertible from vertical to horizontal, including in a mixed configuration.
  • Electrical: through-the-base connection kit (1TB0404) to bring in the power without another hole in the roof.

Simple maintenance, designed for technicians

The four 20 x 20 x 2 in. filters are replaced through a tool-less access panel; they ship as MERV 4, and MERV 8 or MERV 13 filters can replace them. The two 22 in. direct-drive condenser fans are fastened to the grille, which speeds up their maintenance. The Smart Equipment board watches each circuit, shows the fault codes on its LCD screen and keeps the history, which can be read through its USB port. To go further, a fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) module on the refrigerant side is available as an accessory installed in the field.

On the reliability side, the board applies the three-trip rule: a pressure switch, the freeze protection or a low voltage must trip three times in two hours before the associated compressor is locked out, which avoids shutdowns for passing alarms. An anti-short-cycle timer, programmable minimum run times and independent fan delays for heating and cooling round out the protection. The cabinet, with its embossed top, receives a powder paint rated at 750 hours of salt spray.

AirGreen, from the estimate to the maintenance of your 7.5 ton unit

We start with a free on-site estimate, which covers the space and how it is used, the condition of the ducts, the 575 V distribution and the roof access. We confirm the sizing, organize the lift, install the unit with our own teams and carry out the full commissioning, then we propose planned maintenance suited to your building.

Whether your warehouse, your workshop or your reception hall is in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore or on the South Shore, our HVAC technicians respond quickly and efficiently. Call us at 514 316-2973 or use the form on airgreen.ca to schedule your visit.
