A home office where you work well, summer and winter

The home office has become a room in its own right, with its own constraints: the door stays closed during calls, the computer and screens give off heat all day, and the window often faces the sun. The Wall-Mounted Heat Pump ARCOAIRE 16.8 SEER | 9,000 BTU - R454B answers exactly that need: a single room, a fairly constant demand, and comfort that should never be a distraction.

Its certified ratings are 19.0 SEER2, 10.9 EER2 and 9.7 HSPF2. The system is ENERGY STAR certified with the cold-climate designation under ENERGY STAR ID 3556093. It runs on R-454B refrigerant, the one used by the new generation of equipment.

A closed room with a load of its own

An office does not behave like a bedroom. During the day, it builds up heat from computer equipment and the people in it; in the evening, it empties and cools down. When the door is closed, the central heating or the hallway baseboards make no difference. A wall-mounted heat pump of 9,000 BTU/h handles this room on its own, without heating or cooling the rest of the house for nothing.

This size suits an office of ordinary size, a converted guest room or a small basement workroom. If the room has two exterior walls, a large south- or west-facing window, or sits under a poorly insulated roof, we check it during the visit: a larger size may then be justified. On the other hand, we advise against oversizing "just in case": a unit that is too big runs in fits and starts and dries the air poorly in summer.

Variable speed, made for a working day

The variable-speed compressor, or inverter, adjusts its speed continuously. In the morning, it ramps up to bring the room to the set point; then it slows down and follows the heat that the equipment and the sun add as the hours go by. The result is a temperature that barely moves, without the on-off cycle of a window air conditioner that restarts noisily in the middle of a video call.

This way of running is also the most economical. A compressor that runs for long periods at low speed works in its most efficient range, and it avoids repeated starts that wear out components. For a room occupied several hours a day, it is this behaviour, more than maximum capacity, that determines comfort.

R-454B refrigerant

This pairing's circuit uses R-454B, a refrigerant adopted by the industry to replace the previous generation, with a much lower global warming potential. It is classified A2L, meaning mildly flammable under specific conditions, which calls for precise installation and handling rules that we apply on every job.

For you, the difference does not show day to day: the heat pump heats and cools the same way. It matters mostly for the life of the unit, since service and parts will follow the current refrigerant generation for many years.

Winter figures, as published

The certificate lists 8,000 BTU/h at -8 °C (17 °F), about 89% of nominal capacity, with a COP of 2.58, and 7,000 BTU/h at -15 °C (5 °F), about 78%, with a COP of 2.16. The two points are measured separately; we report each one as published.

For a well-insulated office, this means the heat pump heats the room for the great majority of the Quebec winter. On the coldest mornings, the existing baseboard can stay in place as backup: set a few degrees below the heat pump's set point, it only steps in when needed. The ENERGY STAR cold-climate designation indicates that the pairing was evaluated to operate in this type of climate.

Summer: screens, sun and humidity

In cooling mode, the nominal capacity is 9,000 BTU/h. The 10.9 EER2 rating describes efficiency on a hot day, when the sun hits the window and the equipment has been running since morning. That is precisely the situation of an office in July.

Dehumidification matters as much as temperature. Humid air makes it hard to concentrate and leaves a clammy feeling even at the right set point. By running at low speed for long periods, the indoor coil condenses moisture, which drains away. You get drier air without having to set the room colder than necessary.

The right settings, day to day

A variable-speed heat pump performs best with a steady set point. Rather than shutting the unit off in the evening and restarting it at full power in the morning, let it hold the room at a moderate temperature, then raise or lower it by a degree or two as needed. In summer, automatic fan mode is usually enough; in winter, aiming the louvres downward helps warm air reach the floor, where your feet stay under the desk all day.

If the office is only used on certain days, a reduced set point on the other days is reasonable, but avoid shutting the heat pump off completely during cold snaps: a room that cools all the way down then takes a long effort to get back to comfort, and the walls stay cold for hours.

SEER2, EER2, HSPF2 and COP, plainly

  • SEER2 of 19.0: average cooling efficiency over the whole season. The higher it is, the less electricity cooling costs.
  • EER2 of 10.9: cooling efficiency at the hottest moment.
  • HSPF2 of 9.7: average heating efficiency over the season, the most useful rating for a Quebec household.
  • COP: the number of units of heat delivered for one unit of electricity. A baseboard has a COP of one; this pairing lists 2.58 at -8 °C and 2.16 at -15 °C.

The series name mentions 16.8 SEER; the ratings to keep in mind for comparison are those on the certificate. These figures come from certificate AHRI 215324155, published by NEEP.

LogisVert

This pairing does not carry an amount on Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list of October 19, 2026. If the grant matters for your project, we will point you to an eligible pairing of comparable size.

An installation designed for the room where you work

The visit, the calculation and the location

We start with a free visit: measuring the room, the orientation and size of the windows, the condition of the exterior walls, then a load calculation. We also look at how the office is laid out. The wall head goes up high, ideally on a wall that lets the airflow sweep the room without blowing directly on the workstation or the papers.

The indoor unit is secured to the framing with a drainage slope for condensate. The outdoor unit sits on a ground or wall stand, above the snow line, away from bedroom windows, including the neighbours', and clear of snow falling from roofs.

Connections, electrical and commissioning

The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed on both sides. A line cover can finish the run outside. The system needs a dedicated circuit: we check the electrical panel capacity during the visit and install a disconnect near the outdoor unit.

At commissioning, the circuit is evacuated and checked for tightness, then we test both modes, drain flow and the remote control with you. Before we leave, you know how to set the temperature, the louvre direction and the fan speed.

Maintenance

Rinse the indoor filters every two weeks in season, keep the outdoor unit clear of snow and leaves, and plan annual HVAC maintenance of the coils, drain and electrical connections. In winter, white vapour during defrost and a short pause in heating are normal. Our cleaning service takes over when you prefer to hand off the annual visit.

AirGreen, for the life of the installation

A family business active for more than fifteen years in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore, we hold RBQ licences for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work and carry $5,000,000 in liability insurance. The in-home assessment is free, the quote is in writing, and our financing options let you choose the right unit rather than the cheapest one.
