GENERAL AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 500 KPAS R-32 Wall-Mounted Heat Pump | 30,000 BTU | Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, South Shore & North Shore
GENERAL AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 500 KPAS 30,000 BTU: the large Fujitsu Wall-Mounted Heat Pump under its new name, one head for a whole floor in Brossard or La Prairie
Before planning two or three wall units for one floor, it is worth looking at what a single large head can do. The GENERAL AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 500 KPAS 30,000 BTU is one of the largest wall-mounted heat pumps in the AIRSTAGE range: an indoor unit 45 1/4 in wide, an airflow of 806 CFM, and a capacity that is enough, in many Brossard and La Prairie homes, to cover the open ground floor of a two-storey house or a large loft with a single unit, a single refrigerant line and a single hole in the wall.
This page describes the same machine as the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 500 KPAS 30,000 BTU. Same indoor unit ASUH30KPAS, same outdoor unit AOUH30KPAS1, same AHRI certificate 215390440, same values certified by NEEP, same warranty of 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts and 6 years on labour. The manufacturer, Fujitsu General Limited, has been called GENERAL Inc. since January 1, 2026; it is the only line of the spec sheet that changed.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
The story fits in two dates. In August 2025, Paloma Rheem Holdings, owner of Rheem since 1988, acquired Fujitsu General; on January 1, 2026, Fujitsu General Limited became GENERAL Inc., and the Fujitsu brand is being phased out of the equipment. The head office and the R&D centre stayed in Kawasaki, Japan, with the same factories, the same AIRSTAGE products, the same model numbers and the same warranty program. As a trademark, the GENERAL name dates from 1946; the company, founded in 1936, marks the 90th anniversary of its founding in 2026. In Canada, Rheem Canada has handled sales since February 2026; Groupe Master remains AirGreen's distributor.
While the two logos coexist, we keep both pages online. You choose the name; the machine, the warranty and the installation are the same. The table below shows it value by value.

What a single head covers. A wall-mounted heat pump heats and cools the air it can see. With 806 CFM, the 30,000 BTU ALTAIR 500 pushes air far enough to cross an open ground floor where the kitchen, the dining room and the living room follow one another without a partition, or a long loft with a high ceiling. The motorized vertical louvers sweep the air up and down; the horizontal louvers are set by hand, once and for all at installation, to aim at the far end of the room. What it does not cover, we say just as clearly: the closed bedrooms at the end of a hallway, a staircase going up to the next floor, a kitchen separated by a wall. Here is what we look at on site before confirming that one head is enough:
- the shape of the floor: an open rectangle covers well, an L or a string of closed rooms much less so;
- the available wall: it takes 45 1/4 in of free width high up, ideally on the short side of the room, so that the air travels its length;
- the insulation and the windows: a large south-facing bay changes the cooling calculation, a poorly insulated roof changes the heating one;
- the ceiling height: a loft with a high ceiling calls for airflow, and that is precisely what this unit brings.
What it delivers when it is cold. The values are those certified by NEEP under AHRI certificate 215390440. At −8 °C, the unit delivers 19,600 BTU/h at its certified operating point with a COP of 3.04: more than three units of heat for every unit of electricity, where a baseboard returns one. At −15 °C, its certified capacity is 25,800 BTU/h, 86% of its nominal 30,000 BTU size, with a COP of 2.20. The manufacturer guarantees heating down to −15 °C. For a whole floor, that means fall, spring and most winter days run on the heat pump; on the coldest nights, your main system, baseboards or furnace, tops it up. We install this model alongside existing heating, not in its place.
What keeps a big unit from running in fits and starts. The usual worry with a 30,000 BTU is that it cools or heats too fast and then keeps stopping. This unit modulates down to 5,000 BTU/h at −15 °C and 9,200 BTU/h at 8 °C: in mild weather, it idles along and holds the setpoint instead of stopping and restarting, which keeps the temperature stable, the air dry in summer and the compressor healthy. The HSPF2 of 10.2 sums up the efficiency over the whole heating season; the SEER2 of 22.0 and the EER2 of 11.7 do the same for cooling a large floor in July.
What the grant changes. The model is ENERGY STAR certified for cold climates, ID 3629536, and it is listed among the heat pumps eligible for Hydro-Québec's LogisVert program, at $2,352 according to the list of October 27, 2026. That list evolves; we confirm the amount at quote time and our invoice names both units and the AHRI certificate so that your application goes through the first time.
Where to put the outdoor unit. A unit of this size has an outdoor unit to match, 37 in wide by 31 in high, and a sound level of 55 dB(A) that needs smart placement, especially on Brossard and La Prairie lots where the neighbour is never far. The good news is that the manufacturer accepts up to 50 m of line set between the two units for this size: we can therefore put the outdoor unit on the side of the house where it bothers no one, even if that is not the shortest side. Indoors, the unit runs between 32 and 51 dB(A) depending on speed, and spends most of its time at the low end of that range once the floor is at temperature.
The installation, step by step. The insulated copper refrigerant line is 3/8 and 5/8 in, larger than on the small wall units, protected by a line cover outdoors. The drain carries condensate by gravity to the outside or through a condensate pump if the slope is impossible, a decision made with you before the work. The dedicated 208/230 V circuit is protected at 30 A (MCA 19, MOP 30) and must be connected by a licensed electrician; we check your panel's capacity during the estimate visit, because a 30 A circuit cannot be added everywhere. The refrigerant is R-32. Start-up includes the nitrogen leak test, the vacuum, the start, the supply-air temperature check and the setting of the horizontal louvers toward the far end of the room. Wi-Fi is offered as an option.
Maintenance and filters. The indoor filters, larger than on a small unit, pull out by hand, rinse under warm water and go back in once dry; on a unit that moves this much air, regular rinsing makes a real difference to airflow and efficiency. Once a year, a refrigeration technician cleans the coil and the drain pan and checks the refrigerant charge. Same steps, same parts as on the Fujitsu version.
Who this model is for. The Brossard or La Prairie two-storey home whose entire ground floor is open, the loft or long apartment in a converted building, the large open workspace of a professional. And anyone who prefers one unit, one line and one hole to a multi-zone system. If the visit reveals an L-shaped floor or closed rooms that matter, we will tell you and propose two heads rather than one big one; the goal is that the air reaches where you live.
