GENERAL AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 500 36,000 BTU: the largest Wall-Mounted Heat Pump in the Fujitsu range, renamed, for a neighbourhood business, a large double living room or a workshop in Longueuil

A shop on rue Saint-Charles whose door opens a hundred times a day, a double living room in a Saint-Hubert townhouse, a South Shore workshop where people work standing all day: three spaces that ask for the same thing, a single wall unit able to hold a large room. The GENERAL AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 500 36,000 BTU is that model, and it is the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 500 36,000 BTU under another name. Same indoor unit ASUH36KPAS, same outdoor unit AOUH36KPAS1, same AHRI certificate 215390441, same certified values, same warranty. Fujitsu General Limited became GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026; only the name on the nameplate changed.

Three figures set it apart from the smaller capacities in the range: an airflow of 806 CFM, up to 50 m of line set between the two units, and a LogisVert grant of $2,688 according to Hydro-Québec's list of October 27, 2026. The rest of this page explains what each of those figures changes in a business, a large living room or a workshop, and how we install a wall-mounted heat pump of this size.

GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine

For a merchant, the practical question is the name on the invoice and on the grant application: both work, since the AHRI certificate and the model numbers are identical. The explanation fits in a few dates. In August 2025, Paloma Rheem Holdings, owner of Rheem since 1988, acquired Fujitsu General; on January 1, 2026, Fujitsu General Limited became GENERAL Inc. The head office and the research and development centre remain in Kawasaki, Japan, and the factories, the AIRSTAGE products, the model numbers and the warranty program remain yesterday's. GENERAL is a name that has existed as a trademark since 1946, and the company, founded in 1936, marks the 90th anniversary of its founding in 2026. In Canada, Rheem Canada has handled sales since February 2026; Groupe Master remains our distributor.

During the transition, the same heat pump is sold under both names, and the carton delivered to your site may carry either logo. We publish both pages so that you can see it for yourself, value by value, in the table that follows.

Product pageThis pageFujitsu AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 500 36,000 BTU

The twin page under the original name is here: Fujitsu AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 500 KPAS R-32 36,000 BTU, with the same NEEP values.

What 36,000 BTU does in a large room. It is the largest capacity offered in a wall-mounted unit in the AIRSTAGE range, and its indoor unit is built to match: 45.25 in wide, a little over 13 in high, with a fan that pushes 806 CFM at full speed. That airflow is what makes it possible to heat the far end of a double living room from the end wall, or to recover the heat lost every time a shop door opens onto the street in January. The vertical louvers are motorized and sweep top to bottom; the horizontal louvers are set by hand, and we aim them at installation according to the shape of the room. In a shop, we aim for the central aisle; in a double living room, the longest axis; in a workshop, above the workstations rather than onto them.

Heating guaranteed down to −15 °C, with NEEP figures to back it. The values come from NEEP, the cold-climate heat pump database, under AHRI certificate 215390441. At −8 °C, the ALTAIR 500 delivers 22,400 BTU/h at its certified operating point with a COP of 2.89, almost three units of heat per unit of electricity; at −15 °C, it delivers 25,800 BTU/h, 72% of its nominal size, with a COP of 2.20. Once the room is at temperature, it modulates down to 5,000 BTU/h at −15 °C and 9,200 BTU/h at 8 °C, and slows down instead of stopping and restarting. The manufacturer guarantees heating down to −15 °C, which covers the vast majority of the hours of a South Shore winter; below that, the existing heating of the premises or the house takes over, and we account for it in the quote instead of pretending that point does not exist. The HSPF2 of 10.0 gives the efficiency over the whole heating season; in summer, the SEER2 of 21.0 describes seasonal cooling efficiency and the EER2 of 9.75 that of full output in a heat wave, an honest figure for a machine designed first for capacity.

Up to 50 m of line set: the outdoor unit where it bothers no one. According to Fujitsu, the 30,000 and the 36,000 accept up to 50 m of line set between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit. For a business, that is the decisive argument: the outdoor unit, 37 in wide and 31 in high, can go on the roof or in the back yard rather than in front of the storefront, and its 56 dB(A) stay far from customers and neighbours. The refrigerant line in insulated 3/8 and 5/8 in copper follows the route the building imposes, and we lay it out at the site visit.

The installation, step by step.

  1. The site visit: calculation of the room's heating and cooling load, frequency of door openings, storefront windows, ceiling height, choice of wall for the unit and of the site for the outdoor unit.
  2. The refrigerant line, the cable and the drain passed through a single opening, cleanly core-drilled through brick or block in the case of commercial premises.
  3. The outdoor unit on its bracket or base, above the snow, with clearance for air and defrost water, and anti-vibration mounts on a roof.
  4. Condensate drainage by gravity, or by condensate pump when the slope is missing, which is frequent in commercial premises; the pump is planned in the quote.
  5. The dedicated 208/230 V circuit with protection of at most 30 A (MCA 19, MOP 30), connected by a licensed electrician; Wi-Fi, offered as an option, is added at that point if you want it.
  6. The nitrogen leak test, the vacuum, the start-up, the supply-air temperature check and the setting of the horizontal louvers for the room.

LogisVert grant and warranty. The model is ENERGY STAR cold-climate certified (ID 3621237) and listed among the heat pumps eligible for Hydro-Québec's LogisVert program, at $2,688 according to the list of October 27, 2026. The program targets residences; for commercial premises, we check with you what applies before signing, and for a house, our invoice names both units and the AHRI certificate so that the application is complete. The warranty is the same under both names: 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts, 6 years on labour, with an extended warranty possible.

Maintenance and filters. In a business or a workshop, the indoor filters load up fast, street dust or work dust, and a clogged filter drops the airflow, this model's first strength. They pull out by hand and rinse under water; do it often. Once a year, a refrigeration technician checks the R-32 refrigerant charge, cleans the coil, the blower wheel and the pan, and checks the condensate pump if there is one. The indoor unit runs between 32 and 51 dB(A); regular maintenance keeps it at the low end of that range.

Who this model is for. The neighbourhood business in Longueuil, shop, salon, café or professional office, that wants a single wall unit instead of several small ones; the large double living room of a townhouse or two-storey home, which two smaller units would also cover, but with two lines and two outdoor units; the heated workshop where capacity comes first. If your space is partitioned or if you want heating guaranteed lower than −15 °C without any backup, we will propose another configuration during the visit.

Call us at 514 316-2973 or request your free quote online. Our estimator comes to measure the room, count the openings, lay out the refrigerant line route and look at the electrical panel, then hands you a written quote. We install the GENERAL AIRSTAGE ALTAIR 500 36,000 BTU in Longueuil, on the South Shore, in Montreal, Laval and on the North Shore.

An RBQ-licensed HVAC contractor and AIRSTAGE Elite Plus installer, AirGreen installs the same machine under the GENERAL name or the Fujitsu name, with the same warranty and the same service. A large room well heated with a single unit does exist; it takes the right capacity, the right spot and airflow to match.
