GENERAL AIRSTAGE LPAS1 9,000 BTU: the 19 dB(A) Wall-Mounted Heat Pump for a child's or guest bedroom in Boucherville

19 dB(A). That is the sound level of this model's indoor unit at its lowest speed, one of the lowest in our catalogue of wall-mounted heat pumps, and it is what makes us pair it with a child's or guest bedroom. Before going further, one clarification that avoids any confusion: the GENERAL AIRSTAGE LPAS1 9,000 BTU is the same machine as the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE LPAS1, with the same indoor unit ASUH09LPAS, the same outdoor unit AOUH09LPAS1 and the same AHRI certificate 206909902. Its manufacturer, Fujitsu General Limited, became GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026; the certifications have not moved, and neither has the warranty: 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts, 6 years on labour.

Think of a Boucherville home with the bedrooms upstairs. The youngest child's room faces west and turns stifling by late May; the guest room, above the garage, is the coldest in the house and is used only a few weeks a year. In both cases, you are not looking for the biggest machine, you are looking for the most discreet one. That is exactly the job of this 9,000 BTU, and we will tell you just as clearly what it is not: it is not the cold-climate model of the family, its heating is guaranteed down to −15 °C, and it is not on Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list.

GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine

Since January 1, 2026, the company that builds AIRSTAGE heat pumps has been called GENERAL Inc. It was called Fujitsu General Limited until then, and it changed its name following its acquisition, in August 2025, by Paloma Rheem Holdings, the group that has owned Rheem since 1988. Its head office and its research and development centre have not left Kawasaki, Japan; its factories, its products, its model numbers and its warranty program have stayed the same. GENERAL is a name used as a trademark since 1946, and the company, founded in 1936, celebrates the 90th anniversary of its founding in 2026. For Canada, Rheem Canada has handled sales since February 2026, and we keep buying from Groupe Master, our distributor.

The Fujitsu brand is gradually disappearing from the equipment, and during this transition period the same heat pump is sold under both names. Rather than choosing for you, we show both pages: the table below puts the GENERAL version and the Fujitsu version side by side, and you will see that not one value differs.

Silence, in numbers. The indoor unit runs between 19 and 42 dB(A) depending on fan speed. At the lowest speed, the one it settles into at night once the setpoint is reached, it is quieter than the background of a sleeping house: no continuous rush of air, no start-up click that wakes a baby or a light-sleeping guest. At full speed, to bring the temperature up or down quickly, 42 dB(A) stays at the level of a calm conversation. The outdoor unit runs at 48 dB(A), and that is the one we place with care: away from the window of the bedroom in question and from the neighbour's, on a bracket or on the ground, where the sound travels toward the yard rather than toward the beds.

What matters most in a small room: modulation. A child's or guest bedroom rarely calls for 9,000 BTU/h at once. This model turns down to a certified minimum capacity of 1,800 BTU/h at −15 °C, and 2,600 BTU/h at 8 °C: once the room is at the right temperature, the compressor slows down instead of stopping and restarting. That is what keeps the temperature flat through the night, without the cold drafts of restarts. At the other end, in mild weather, the certified maximum capacity rises to 12,500 BTU/h at 8 °C, 39% more than the nominal size, enough to warm up a guest room that stayed closed before the visitors arrive.

Summer first. For a west-facing bedroom, air conditioning is the number one reason to install this unit, and that is where it is strongest: a SEER2 of 20.0, an EER2 of 12.5 and an ENERGY STAR certification (ID 2409901) for seasonal efficiency. The SEER2 measures the amount of cooling delivered per unit of electricity over a whole season; the EER2 takes the same measure at the hottest point of the day. Concretely, the bedroom stays at the setpoint through a July heat wave and the unit dehumidifies at the same time, which changes the quality of sleep more than the number on the thermostat does.

Winter, frankly. The heating values come from NEEP, the cold-climate heat pump database, under AHRI certificate 206909902. At −8 °C, the unit delivers 6,200 BTU/h with a COP of 2.8: for each unit of electricity, 2.8 units of heat, against a single one for an electric baseboard. At −15 °C, it delivers 6,700 BTU/h, 74% of its nominal size, with a COP of 2.07; that is also the heating limit guaranteed by the manufacturer. For a well-insulated bedroom, that covers most winter days on the South Shore at low cost; on the colder nights, the bedroom's baseboard takes over, and that is a good reason to leave it in place. The HSPF2 of 10.5 sums up efficiency over the season: the higher it is, the less the unit consumes for the same heat.

Grant: the short answer. This model is not on the list of heat pumps eligible for Hydro-Québec's LogisVert program, according to the list of October 27, 2026, and its ENERGY STAR certification does not carry the cold-climate designation. So we promise you no amount. If the grant is part of your calculation, tell us: we will compare it with an eligible model, grant deducted.

The installation in a bedroom, step by step. No ductwork, no ceiling to open: one unit on the wall, one unit outside, and between the two a refrigerant line, a cable and a drain that pass through a single hole. In a child's or guest bedroom, our refrigeration technicians pay attention to a few specific points:

  • The wall unit: high up, on an exterior wall if possible, and never directly above the bed or the crib; the air has to travel along the ceiling and come back down away from the sleepers.
  • The outdoor unit: on a wall bracket or a ground pad, raised above the snow, away from bedroom windows, with clear space for air and for defrost water.
  • The refrigerant line: insulated 1/4 and 3/8 in copper, in a line cover outdoors, with the minimum of bends.
  • The drain: by gravity to the outside; if the slope is impossible, a condensate pump, announced before the work.
  • Electrical: a dedicated 208/230 V circuit connected by a licensed electrician; the estimator looks at the panel during the visit.
  • Start-up: nitrogen leak test, vacuum, start-up, supply-air temperature check, then setting the night speed with you.

Maintenance and filters. In a child's room, dust, stuffed-animal fluff and hair end up in the indoor filters quickly; they pull out by hand, rinse under warm water and go back in once dry, and frequent rinsing keeps the airflow, the efficiency and the silence at their certified level. Outside, a pass with the shovel around the unit after each snowfall is enough. Once a year, a refrigeration technician checks the R-410A refrigerant charge and cleans the coil and the drain pan.

Who it suits. A child's or teenager's bedroom, the guest room, the small closed office, anywhere silence and summer cooling come before deep-cold heating. For a master bedroom, a living room or a whole floor, the capacity or the heating range is not enough, and we will tell you so at the visit.
