The largest size in the series, and the only one reaching 26,000 BTU in heating

The KINGHOME Polaris R32 | 24,000 BTU Wall-Mounted Heat Pump is designed for spaces where a wall-mounted unit must do the work of a complete system: a large open-plan ground floor, a loft, a light commercial space, a living area with a cathedral ceiling, or a space that two smaller units would have covered less effectively. It is also the model in the series offering the highest cold-weather heating capacity, with a COP of 1.95 at -15 °C, higher than that of the other three sizes.

Its ratings are 25 SEER2, 9.5 HSPF2, and 14.2 EER2. It is ENERGY STAR certified with the cold-climate designation, and qualifies for a $3,120 LogisVert rebate, the highest in the POLARIS range.

22,000 or 24,000 BTU? The two figures explained

This model is sold as a 24,000 BTU unit, and its technical data sheet indicates a cooling capacity of 22,000 BTU/h under standardized test conditions. Both figures are accurate, and it is worth understanding why before comparing quotes.

The 24,000 refers to the commercial designation for the size, which places the unit within a product range. The 22,000 is the capacity measured at 95 °F according to the test method. This is the second figure Hydro-Québec displays in its search tool under the heading nominal capacity.

In heating mode, the capacity reaches 24,000 BTU/h at 8 °C. A buyer who compares only the cooling figure may therefore assume the unit is weaker than it really is. We prefer to explain this distinction in advance rather than have a customer discover it on a technical data sheet after signing.

The widest modulation range in the series

In cooling mode, the unit modulates from 3,410 to 28,660 BTU/h. This range is remarkable for a wall-mounted unit of this size: the minimum output drops lower than that of the 18,000 BTU model, while the maximum output is significantly higher.

For the occupant, this means a unit that maintains a stable temperature during the shoulder seasons without constantly shutting off, while retaining enough capacity for a heatwave in a room with extensive glazing. The airflow follows the same principle, ranging from 383 to 736 CFM.

26,000 BTU at -8 °C

  • Heating capacity at 8 °C: 24,000 BTU/h
  • Heating capacity at -8 °C: 26,000 BTU/h
  • Heating capacity at -15 °C: 20,400 BTU/h, COP of 1.95
  • Heating operation down to -30 °C

This is the highest heating capacity we offer on a single-zone wall-mounted unit in the KINGHOME catalogue. At -8 °C, the unit delivers 26,000 BTU/h: enough to cover the full load of a well-insulated ground floor measuring several hundred square feet, without supplemental heat, during most of the winter.

A COP of 1.95 at -15 °C means that even in this cold, each kilowatt-hour consumed produces nearly two kilowatt-hours of heat. Compared with an electric baseboard heater, whose ratio remains fixed at 1, the difference is directly reflected on the bill.

A 5/8-inch gas line and an additional charge of 0.4 ounces per foot

This size differs from the other three in its piping: 1/4 inch for the liquid line and 5/8 inch for the gas line, compared with 1/2 inch on the smaller sizes. The higher refrigerant flow requires a larger diameter.

There are two practical consequences. First, the equipment is not interchangeable with that of an 18,000 BTU model: an existing 1/2-inch line left in place during a replacement is not suitable. Second, the additional charge is 0.4 ounces per foot beyond the 25 precharged feet, twice that of the other models. On a 60-foot run, this represents an amount of refrigerant that must be weighed, not estimated. The factory charge is 52.9 ounces of R-32, and the allowable line length is up to 131 feet.

A 24,000 BTU project must be prepared before purchase

At this size, three checks determine whether the project is simple or complex. They are carried out on-site before the quote.

A 30 A circuit

The power supply is 208-230 V single-phase, with a minimum circuit ampacity of 22 A and a maximum protection of 30 A. This is the highest requirement in the POLARIS series, and it often changes the nature of the project.

A dedicated 30 A breaker requires appropriately sized wiring and available space in the electrical panel. In a 1960s home still equipped with a 100 A service, with an electric water heater, stove, and dryer, the remaining capacity must be calculated. We perform this check before confirming a price, because discovering the issue on installation day delays the entire project.

A 44-inch indoor unit

The indoor unit measures 43.9 x 9.8 x 13.1 inches. It is significantly longer than those of the other sizes, and the chosen wall must accommodate it without making the room feel visually cramped or blocking the airflow.

There must be clearance on both sides, open space above, and nothing obstructing the air outlet below. A nearby door frame, a tall bookcase, or a wall corner that is too narrow are real constraints for this size. The outdoor unit measures 37.7 x 15.8 x 26.0 inches, weighs 92.6 pounds, and requires an elevated support designed according to the area's snow accumulation.

Two litres of moisture per hour

Dehumidification reaches 2 litres per hour, the highest in the series. This is a real advantage in large ground-floor or basement spaces where summer discomfort comes as much from humidity as from temperature.

In return, this requires a properly designed condensate drain. Two litres per hour at peak is a volume that leaves no room for an insufficient slope or a pinched pipe behind a wall. We check drainage at startup and recommend inspecting the drain before each cooling season.

$3,120 LogisVert rebate

This model is listed in the LogisVert program with assistance of $3,120 for an existing-home owner, under ENERGY STAR ID 4663298 and AHRI 218640282. A separate financing bonus applies to multi-unit buildings, making this size interesting for plex owners equipping several units.

The amount corresponds to the list in effect on the installation date. We verify eligibility when preparing the quote and provide the complete documentation at the end of the work: detailed invoice, indoor and outdoor model numbers, and certification references.

Light commercial use

This size is often chosen for commercial spaces: retail stores, offices, waiting rooms, and heated workshops. The manufacturer's warranty distinguishes between the two applications. In residential use, it covers the compressor and parts for 12 years on registered models. In commercial applications, it is 5 or 7 years depending on the conditions. A property owner equipping a rental commercial space should understand this distinction before purchasing.

The most costly mistakes with this size

  1. Reusing an existing 1/2-inch refrigerant line. This model requires a 5/8-inch gas line.
  2. Estimating the additional charge instead of weighing it. At 0.4 ounces per foot, errors accumulate quickly and affect performance.
  3. Confirming the project without checking the electrical panel. A 30 A circuit is not always available.
  4. Choosing a wall that is too narrow. The indoor unit is nearly 44 inches long and must remain unobstructed.
  5. Treating the drain as an afterthought. At 2 litres per hour, it is the main source of preventable water damage.
