The 15,000 BTU SENVILLE AURA R454B occupies a particularly interesting position in the wall-mounted heat pump lineup. It is intended for homeowners who need more capacity than a 12,000 BTU unit without necessarily moving up to an 18,000 BTU unit that could be oversized for the room.
At AirGreen, this is exactly the kind of situation we encounter in Greater Montreal: a living room open to the dining room, a relatively open condo floor, a medium-sized commercial space, or a family area where the thermal load slightly exceeds what a small wall-mounted system can comfortably handle.
For this new-generation AURA, Senville combines a nominal capacity of 15,000 BTU, R454B refrigerant, variable-speed technology, ENERGY STAR certification, Alexa compatibility, and a stated heating operating range down to -25 °C. The supplied documentation also presents the unit as a cold-climate heat pump and recommends professional installation to preserve warranty coverage.
The certified combination consists of the SENA-15HF-OG outdoor unit and the SENA-15HF-IGG indoor unit, with AHRI reference number 217603532. The active AHRI certification confirms, among other things, a cooling capacity of 15,000 BTU/h, a SEER2 of 23.5, an EER2 of 11.7, and an HSPF2 Region IV of 9.9.
The technical specifications that really matter

These values are particularly important because they make it possible to assess the unit based on more than just the “15,000 BTU” printed on the box. Senville’s documentation confirms, in particular, modulation ranges of 8,000 to 15,200 BTU/h in cooling and 3,600 to 16,000 BTU/h in heating.
Why modulation is important in a condo, plex, or house
A variable-speed heat pump is not designed to operate continuously at maximum capacity. It adjusts its operation according to demand.
In an open-concept area that requires substantial cooling at 4 p.m. on a hot July day, the SENVILLE AURA can increase its output. Later, when the indoor temperature stabilizes, it can reduce its operating rate.
This modulation helps limit:
- repeated starts and stops;
- significant temperature fluctuations;
- unnecessary noise;
- consumption peaks;
- the comfort problems associated with a significantly oversized unit.
That is one reason why, at AirGreen, we do not automatically choose an 18,000 or 24,000 BTU heat pump simply because higher capacity seems reassuring on paper.
15,000 BTU: what area does it cover?
Senville indicates a reference area of approximately 600 to 800 sq. ft. for this unit.
This value is a good starting point, but we never recommend sizing a wall-mounted heat pump in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore, or on the South Shore based solely on the number of square feet.
Two 700 sq. ft. spaces can have completely different needs.
A newer condo in Boucherville with good insulation, few sun-exposed windows, and a standard ceiling may require much less capacity than the top floor of a Montreal plex with:
- large southwest-facing windows;
- a roof directly above the dwelling;
- older insulation;
- a high ceiling;
- an open-concept kitchen;
- several occupants;
- significant solar gains in the afternoon.
The 15,000 BTU becomes particularly appealing when the analysis genuinely falls between the usual 12,000 and 18,000 BTU categories.
A typical scenario we encounter at AirGreen
Let’s take a common configuration in Greater Montreal: approximately 650 to 750 sq. ft. of relatively open space comprising the living room, kitchen, and dining room, with a hallway leading to the bedrooms.
Simply installing a larger unit does not guarantee that air will reach the bedrooms more effectively. In this type of project, the positioning of the indoor unit can be just as important as its capacity.
We are particularly looking to achieve:
- adequate clearance in front of the heat pump;
- an air stream that travels through as much of the space as possible;
- as few obstacles as possible in front of the unit;
- reliable condensate drainage;
- a logical piping route;
- an outdoor location that facilitates maintenance;
- sufficient space around the outdoor unit to preserve its heat exchange.
A well-positioned 15,000 BTU SENVILLE can be much more suitable than an 18,000 BTU unit installed where air circulation is poor.
Winter performance: look at the available BTUs as the temperature drops
A statement such as “heating down to -25 °C” indicates an operating limit, but it does not necessarily mean that the heat pump delivers its 15,000 nominal BTU at -25 °C.
This is an important distinction for Quebec’s climate.
The certification data available for the SENA-15HF-OG / SENA-15HF-IGG combination indicates approximately:
- 15,000 BTU/h at 47 °F, or approximately 8 °C;
- 12,000 BTU/h at 17 °F, or approximately -8 °C;
- 11,500 BTU/h at 5 °F, or approximately -15 °C;
- a COP of 1.80 at 5 °F (-15 °C).
The system is classified as an ENERGY STAR model for cold climates in the corresponding certification data.
This provides a much more useful understanding of the appliance. At approximately -15 °C, the heat pump still retains significant heating capacity, but this capacity is no longer identical to its nominal value of 15,000 BTU.
In a residence in Montreal or Laval, we must therefore consider the existing heating system, the building’s heat losses, and the outdoor design temperature before deciding what proportion of the heating can be entrusted to the heat pump.
SEER2 23.5: highly appealing cooling efficiency
The SEER2 of 23.5 places this 15,000 BTU AURA in an efficient category for a wall-mounted heat pump.
The SEER2 represents seasonal cooling efficiency. The higher this figure, the less electricity the appliance generally needs to consume to provide a given amount of cooling under the test conditions specified by the standard.
The EER2 of 11.7 complements this figure by indicating efficiency under a specific operating condition.
For the homeowner, actual savings will obviously depend on many factors: temperature setting, insulation, sun exposure, length of use, climate, the old appliance being replaced, and occupancy habits.
An indoor unit capable of operating very quietly
For an installation in a living room, office, or near a bedroom, the noise level deserves as much attention as the SEER2.
According to the technical specifications, the indoor unit has advertised levels of:
58.5 / 36.5 / 32.5 / 21 / 18 dB(A) according to the different fan speeds.
The stated minimum level reaches 18 dB(A). The outdoor unit is rated at 57 dB(A).
In practice, the location of the outdoor compressor remains important. On a balcony, near a bedroom, between two buildings, or near the neighboring property, we consider clearances, vibrations, and sound reflection before choosing the installation point.
Dimensions to plan for before installation
The indoor unit measures approximately 33.39 in wide × 9.17 in deep × 11.81 in high.
The outdoor unit measures approximately 30.12 × 11.93 × 21.85 in.
These dimensions are useful when a homeowner wants to place the outdoor unit under a window, on a porch, or in a narrow side passage. They also make it possible to determine in advance whether a wall-mounted installation, a support bracket, or a ground base is the best solution.
However, the appliance dimensions alone should not be used for planning: service clearances and airflow requirements must also be respected.
R454B and comes precharged with refrigerant
This version of the SENVILLE AURA uses R454B.
The documentation indicates a charge of 35.27 oz and a factory charge corresponding to approximately 24.6 ft or 7.5 m of piping.
Senville also specifies that an installation using a 50 ft kit requires an on-site adjustment to the refrigerant charge. Professional installation is required to achieve the expected operation and maintain the warranty.
At AirGreen, the length of the refrigerant line set is therefore not an administrative detail. We verify it before installation, especially when the indoor unit and outdoor unit need to be installed on different façades or several floors apart.
Electrical supply: 208/230 V and a 15 A circuit according to the data sheet
The SENA-15HF operates on a 208/230 V single-phase, 60 Hz power supply.
The Senville data sheet states:
- Voltage range: 187 to 253 V;
- Minimum circuit ampacity: 15 A;
- Maximum protection: 15 A;
- Specified connection wiring: 14# × 4.
During an installation, we still need to inspect the existing electrical panel, the circuit routing, and the regulatory requirements applicable to the project. A value listed on a technical data sheet does not replace an actual inspection of the electrical installation.
App and Alexa control
The SENVILLE AURA 15,000 BTU documentation indicates Alexa compatibility and includes an Alexa USB module, in addition to the wireless remote control. The app-based control allows, among other things, settings to be changed remotely and schedules to be programmed.
For a primary residence, this makes daily scheduling easier. For a cottage, office, or intermittently used dwelling, remote control can be even more relevant.
Diagnostics and leak detection
The AURA series also features an integrated diagnostic and leak detection system. The goal is to allow the system to report certain anomalies and facilitate intervention when the unit is no longer operating normally.
This function obviously does not replace maintenance. A clogged filter, a blocked outdoor coil, a poorly maintained drain, or a unit exposed to poor installation conditions can still reduce performance.

The location is chosen before drilling
For us, installing a wall-mounted heat pump starts with the building, not the drill.
We check in particular:
- the area and layout of the zone;
- air circulation between rooms;
- sun exposure;
- the possible placement of the indoor unit;
- condensate drainage;
- the refrigerant line route;
- the outdoor unit location;
- the electrical supply;
- future access for cleaning and servicing.
This preparation reduces the risk of ending up with a technically functional heat pump that is poorly positioned or difficult to service.
12,000, 15,000, or 18,000 BTU: it should not be chosen at random
The 15,000 BTU size allows for more precise selection.
A 12,000 BTU heat pump may be sufficient in a well-insulated space, whereas a slightly more demanding space may justify upgrading to 15,000 BTU. Conversely, choosing 18,000 BTU solely to have “some extra capacity” is not always desirable.
An oversized unit can reach its setpoint very quickly and reduce its periods of stable operation. In cooling mode, this can also affect dehumidification and comfort distribution.
We therefore prefer to select the capacity that matches the building rather than the highest capacity available.
Warranty: verify the exact terms of the installed version
The Senville documentation provided for this SENA-15HF indicates a warranty of 10 years on the compressor and 5 years on parts.
Since warranty programs, registration requirements, and additional protections may vary, we confirm the applicable conditions when preparing the quote and supplying the equipment.
ENERGY STAR, cold climate, and LogisVert
The SENA-15HF-OG / SENA-15HF-IGG combination is ENERGY STAR certified and appears in the certification data as a cold-climate heat pump.
For a Hydro-Québec LogisVert grant, however, you must always check the rules and current list at the time of installation. Hydro-Québec specifies that eligible models and financial assistance amounts may change and that, for installations completed since November 26, 2025, a heat pump must, among other requirements, be ENERGY STAR certified to qualify.
At AirGreen, we therefore prefer to confirm the actual eligibility of the AHRI number and exact combination rather than display an amount that may no longer correspond to the conditions applicable on the installation date.
Who would find this SENVILLE AURA 15,000 BTU particularly appealing?

- a need slightly greater than what a 12,000 BTU unit can comfortably cover;
