The SENVILLE AURA R454B 9,000 BTU falls into a particularly interesting category for homeowners looking to cool and heat a room, a compact floor, or a clearly defined area without installing an unnecessarily oversized wall-mounted heat pump. For a bedroom, home office, small condo, studio, addition, or certain rooms that are difficult to balance with the main heating system, its capacity may correspond much more accurately to the building's actual load.
At AirGreen, when we assess a wall-mounted heat pump installation in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore, or the South Shore, we never choose a capacity based solely on square footage. Insulation, sun exposure, the number of windows, ceiling height, floor level, room location, and heat loss in winter all have a direct effect on sizing.
For the SENVILLE AURA, the manufacturer recommends the 9,000 BTU model for spaces of approximately 100 to 450 sq. ft. The brochure also specifies that it is a ductless heat pump certified by ENERGY STAR and designed to operate in heating mode down to -30 °C.
This floor-area range is therefore a starting point, not an absolute rule. A 400 sq. ft. room with extensive glazing in Montreal does not necessarily have the same thermal load as a newer, well-insulated 400 sq. ft. room in Boucherville.
A modulating capacity that matters more than a simple “9,000 BTU”
The figure of 9,000 BTU corresponds to the nominal cooling capacity. However, the heat pump does not operate continuously at this output.
The manufacturer's technical table, on page 4 of the brochure, indicates a cooling range of 3,000 to 10,500 BTU/h and a nominal heating capacity of 9,800 BTU/h, with modulation of approximately 3,100 to 11,000 BTU/h.
This modulation is important in a small room.
A traditional heat pump that is too large for the space could quickly reach the desired temperature, shut off, restart, and then repeat the cycle. A properly sized inverter system can instead gradually reduce its output as the load decreases. This promotes a more consistent temperature and more stable operation.
For a condo owner in Montreal, for example, a properly selected 9,000 BTU heat pump may be a better choice than a 12,000 or 18,000 BTU model selected simply with an excessively large safety margin.
SEER2 of 27.4: particularly impressive cooling efficiency
Efficiency is one of the strongest points of this SENVILLE AURA.

These SEER2, EER2, and HSPF2 values appear directly in the technical table on page 4 of Senville's documentation.
The SEER2 of 27.4 is particularly relevant for a wall-mounted heat pump used regularly during the summer. It measures seasonal cooling efficiency: the higher the value, the less electricity the unit should normally consume to produce a given amount of cooling, all other things being equal.
Senville states in its documentation that savings of up to 58% on energy costs are possible. However, this type of data should be interpreted as a marketing comparison that depends heavily on the system being replaced, the building, the requested temperature, and usage habits. We prefer to focus on certified ratings such as SEER2, EER2, and HSPF2, which allow for a much more useful comparison between equipment.
Heating at -30 °C: you need to look at the available capacity, not just the minimum temperature
A common mistake when shopping for a cold-climate heat pump in Quebec is to consider only the minimum operating temperature.
The SENVILLE AURA SENA-09HF can operate in heating mode down to -30 °C, which is also confirmed by the table on page 5 of the brochure.
However, this does not mean that it provides 9,800 or 11,000 BTU/h at -30 °C.
The technical data currently displayed on the AirGreen product page notably indicate:
- 12,000 BTU/h at -8 °C
- 11,500 BTU/h at -15 °C
- up to 5,100 BTU/h at -30 °C
- Advertised COP of 2.494 at -8 °C, 1.84 at -15 °C, and 1.114 at -30 °C
This is precisely the type of information we analyze when a customer wants to use a heat pump as a significant source of heating in winter.
At -15 °C, the available capacity remains significantly higher than at -30 °C. During extremely cold temperatures, the building's heating load increases while the heat pump's available capacity decreases. In many buildings in Greater Montreal, an additional heating source therefore remains relevant.
The right goal is not simply to buy a heat pump labeled “-30 °C.” You must check whether its actual capacity at winter temperatures meets the needs of the room.
Very quiet at low speed: a real advantage for a bedroom or office
The SENA-09HF has four indicated airflow levels of 425, 340, 260, and 200 CFM.
The indoor unit's sound pressure ranges from 23 dB(A) at low speed to 45 dB(A) in Turbo mode. The outdoor unit's stated sound level is 56 dB(A). These values and the dimensions of both units are specified in the table on page 5 of the brochure.
The minimum level of 23 dB(A) explains why this capacity may be particularly suitable for:
- a bedroom;
- a home office;
- a small living room;
- a rental unit;
- a condo;
- a finished basement;
- an area where you want to limit variations in fan noise.
The AirGreen product page also indicates automatic vertical and horizontal louver control. In a small room, this detail is more important than it may seem: the direction of the airflow directly affects the feeling of comfort and the ability to distribute air without creating an overly cold area in front of the unit.
Dimensions: a relatively compact indoor unit
The indoor unit measures approximately 33.40 in wide × 9.18 in deep × 11.76 in high and weighs approximately 22 lb.
The outdoor unit measures approximately 28.74 × 11.02 × 19.49 in and weighs approximately 66 lb.
These dimensions often make it possible to find a suitable location in installations where wall space is limited. However, we must still maintain the necessary clearances around the unit, account for the panel opening required for servicing, and avoid positioning the air outlet directly toward a bed, workstation, or area where the airflow could become uncomfortable.
WiFi, app, and Alexa compatibility
WiFi is included in the configuration shown on the AirGreen product page. Senville documentation also mentions Alexa integration, allowing you to control the heat pump remotely, adjust the settings, and schedule operating times.
The kit contents indicated in the brochure include, among other things, the wireless remote control and an Alexa USB module.
For a heat pump installed in an office, a rental unit, or an intermittently occupied residence, remote control can become much more than a simple accessory. In particular, it allows the setpoint to be lowered or restored before occupants arrive and prevents the room from being unnecessarily left at too low or too high a temperature.
The switch to R-454B
This new generation of SENVILLE AURA uses R-454B refrigerant.
The manufacturer specifies a charge of 37.15 oz and a factory charge corresponding to a maximum piping length of 25 feet. For an installation with a 50-foot line, the brochure explicitly states that refrigerant must be added on site by the installer.
On the AirGreen product sheet, the specified piping diameter for this combination is 1/4 in – 3/8 in.
R-454B belongs to the new generation of refrigerants with reduced global warming potential compared with R-410A. Since it is an A2L-class refrigerant, its installation requires appropriate work methods, tools, and procedures. This is an additional reason to entrust commissioning to HVAC professionals rather than treating the unit as a do-it-yourself product.
What we check at AirGreen before installing a SENVILLE AURA 9,000 BTU
A good heat pump can deliver disappointing results when it is improperly sized or poorly positioned. At AirGreen, much of our work therefore involves looking at what surrounds the equipment, not just the figures listed on its technical specifications sheet.
A typical scenario: a small room with a significant heat load
We regularly encounter rooms in Greater Montreal whose size seems to immediately indicate a 9,000 BTU heat pump, when the reality is more complex.
Consider a 350 sq. ft. office on the top floor of a plex in Montreal. If it has large west-facing windows, a poorly insulated ceiling, and receives several hours of sunlight, its cooling load may be very different from that of a basement of the same size in Longueuil.
Conversely, automatically installing a 12,000 or 18,000 BTU unit “just to be sure” is not necessarily better.
That is why we examine factors such as the building envelope, windows, solar exposure, room layout, existing heating system, and natural air circulation before recommending the capacity.
Refrigeration installation: the details that determine the quality of the result
Senville’s documentation specifies that professional installation is required to maintain warranty coverage.
For us, this means properly carrying out the piping run, drainage, wall-penetration sealing, refrigerant-circuit evacuation, leak-tightness tests, and commissioning.
The drain route is particularly important. An indoor unit can cool a room perfectly while causing problems if the condensate does not drain properly. Insufficient slope, an improperly positioned drain, or an installation that unnecessarily requires adding a condensate pump can increase noise and future maintenance.
The outdoor unit’s location also matters. On the South Shore, the North Shore, in Laval, or in Montreal, we must plan for snow accumulation, drainage during defrost cycles, and future access for servicing.
Electrical supply: 208/230 V, MCA 10 A, and maximum protection of 15 A
The brochure specifies a 208/230 V, single-phase, 60 Hz power supply, a minimum circuit ampacity of 10 A, and a maximum fuse of 15 A.
It also specifies connection wiring 14/4 AWG between the components. This indication should not automatically be confused with the complete sizing of the electrical circuit supplying the equipment. The final wiring, circuit breaker, disconnect switch, and electrical compliance must always be determined according to the actual installation and applicable requirements.
For homeowners, the practical advantage of a wall-mounted heat pump with this capacity is that its electrical demand remains relatively modest compared with many higher-capacity systems.
A heat pump particularly suited to which applications?
The SENVILLE AURA 9,000 BTU is particularly appealing when the area to be treated is relatively small and well defined.
We would consider it especially for a primary bedroom, office, small living area, studio, compact condo, or a room that remains too hot or too cold despite the main system.
We would be more cautious when a homeowner wants to heat several separate rooms with a single 9,000 BTU indoor unit. Even when a heat pump has sufficient theoretical capacity, air must be able to circulate physically from one room to another. A closed door or a long corridor can completely change the outcome.
Warranty: a difference to be confirmed between the AirGreen product page and the Senville brochure
There is currently a significant difference between the two sources provided.
The AirGreen product page states a warranty of 10 years on the compressor, 10 years on parts, and 0 years on labor.
The Senville brochure provided states 10 years on the compressor and 5 years on parts.
This difference must be confirmed when requesting a quote or making the purchase, because warranty conditions may depend on the applicable program, the distribution channel, product registration, or the commercial terms in effect. We prefer to clarify this information before installation rather than leave a homeowner to assume that coverage applies automatically.
What about the LogisVert subsidy?
The AirGreen page provided with this product currently lists a $0 provincial subsidy, with an update dated November 26, 2025.
Because financial assistance programs may change, we always recommend verifying eligibility when preparing the quote. A heat pump certified as ENERGY STAR or suitable for cold climates is not automatically eligible for all subsidies available in Quebec.
