Truly Japanese!
Japanese engineering and technology are at the core of all SHARP products. The THU series heat pumps were developed with the strictest standards to withstand the most extreme climates. This series has proven itself in the Nordic region but is now available in North America and Quebec. The THU heat pump series is equipped with the most advanced Japanese technologies. The J-HEAT heating mechanism and the PLASMACLUSTER air purification system are just two examples of innovations that set these products apart from the competition.
Sharp: a historic and reliable manufacturer
In addition to being a century-old Japanese company and a technology leader, SHARP has been involved in air conditioning, heating, and air purification since 1985. We are proud to partner with a company that has extensive technical knowledge and bases its business model on innovation. AirGreen and Sharp share the mission of providing solutions that improve customers' quality of life and home comfort.
SHARP launched its first water-based air conditioning system in 1985. Today, the company offers a very wide range of products that combine air conditioning, heating, and air purification. Equipped with innovative and unique technology, SHARP products are among the most efficient and reliable on the market. At AirGreen, we are proud to offer you SHARP heat pumps and air conditioners that will help improve your daily life.

Plasmacluster: superior air purification
SHARP products are the only ones that replicate natural air purification. This technology is unique to SHARP products and allows these heat pumps and air conditioners to stand out from all competition. You will not find any wall-mounted or central heat pump that neutralizes airborne bacteria and viruses, in addition to eliminating mold and other contaminants in your home's indoor air. Plasmacluster technology purifies the air and protects your health. It offers many benefits:
- Eliminates airborne viruses
- Eliminates mold and airborne microbes
- Fights airborne allergens
- Breaks down and removes stubborn odors in your home
How does it work?
The Plasmacluster mechanism allows superior air purification and elimination of mold, viruses, allergens, and odors. This neutralization occurs in three main steps:
1. Ion diffusion:
- An ion is a molecule carrying an electric charge. There are two categories: cations (with a positive charge) and anions (with a negative charge).
- Plasmacluster cations and anions are identical to those found in nature. These ions are surrounded by water molecules, which gives them a very long lifespan. Plasmacluster discharges allow the diffusion of the necessary ions.
- It should be known that positive ions (H+) and negative ions (O2-) are constantly present in ambient air, although in a different form.
2. Plasmacluster ions attack allergens, mold, and suspended molecules:
- The dispersed ions create highly oxidized hydroxyl radicals (HO) that can attack allergens, viruses, and mold. The ions remove hydrogen from surface proteins. In this way, Plasmacluster ions attack and destroy contaminants.
3. Transformation of ions into water and humidity
- Hydroxyl radicals join with hydrogen (H) to return to the ambient air as newly created water (H2O).
Sharp is a world leader in air purification products and technology. Their products equipped with Plasmacluster technology reached the milestone of 100 million units sold in 2022.

Air flow rate and flow control and the Coanda flap
While it is true that SHARP heat pumps stand out for their air purification, it is also true and even more noticeable that their air flow redirection and control mechanisms are a function unique to SHARP. This is the Coanda air flow. Unlike Plasmacluster, the Coanda effect does not belong to SHARP but is a phenomenon observed in nature. SHARP air conditioners and heat pumps simply use natural tendencies to ensure uniform temperature throughout your home. With this technology, you will no longer have air blowing directly on you.

At AirGreen, we understand that many homes in Montreal and Quebec will have a wall-mounted air conditioner or heat pump with an indoor unit located far from certain rooms. If the installed product is not well chosen, there can be a significant lack of uniformity in heating and cooling. Since you don’t want to be cold in one room and hot in another, SHARP heat pumps and air conditioners benefit from mechanisms that replicate another effect of Mother Nature: the Coanda effect. In nature, we can measure the tendency of gases and liquids to be attracted to certain convex surfaces over which they flow. The flow follows an initial surface and then undergoes a deviation that detaches the fluid onto a new trajectory. SHARP heat pumps and air conditioners take advantage of this phenomenon by directing air to follow the appropriate walls and ceilings, depending on whether heating or cooling is desired. By reaching strategic surfaces first, SHARP systems enable temperature harmonization in the targeted rooms.
The Coanda airflow control mechanism also allows Plasmacluster ions to circulate into deeper corners of your home. This is an excellent technology that prevents direct contact between the system’s air and the inhabitants of the home. If you are looking for ambient comfort without a room or space becoming too hot or too cold, the Coanda airflow offers you the best solution.
It is always important to ensure that a heat pump powerful enough to cover the space is installed, but with the combination of Plasmacluster and Coanda technologies, you can have peace of mind with more uniform temperature and air purification everywhere.

The long diffuser flap on the indoor units of SHARP heat pumps is an addition that contributes to the exceptional control of airflow in SHARP products. The diffuser flap serves multiple functions at once. It maximizes air intake at the indoor unit while minimizing airflow loss. Additionally, the airflow is directed so it does not blow directly on the user. You can therefore install SHARP products without worrying about drafts felt by occupants directly facing the indoor unit.

The long diffuser flap allows for controlled airflow at distances of up to 15 meters. Since it directs cold air upwards and warm air downwards, using heat pumps will not disturb the room occupants. Fluid mechanics inspire this unique flap, which opens differently depending on the occupants' needs.
Additionally, the 4-way sweeping establishes a horizontal, vertical, right lateral, and left lateral airflow so that all spaces are evenly air-conditioned and heated.
Multi-Room Button
In addition to using the Coanda effect, SHARP heat pumps feature the multi-room function (Multi Space) that allows heat pumps and air conditioners to distribute air evenly and balanced across multiple rooms. The multi-room button on your SHARP heat pump ensures balancing and harmonizing the temperature of several rooms. This airflow control is achieved thanks to a rotating flap that can pivot up to 180o. For heating, the flap directs more warm air downward. For cooling, the flap directs the airflow upward. Additionally, you can also adjust the flap angle according to your preferences to achieve your ideal comfort.
Knowing that Quebecers seek uniform comfort throughout their home, this function allows heating or cooling multiple rooms evenly. This effect is achieved with a continuous airflow that gently brings the ambient air to the desired temperature throughout your home. Since heat pumps and air conditioners can have multiple floors or simply a very large space to cover, the indoor unit keeps circulating air even when the immediate space reaches the desired temperature. You can rest assured of temperature harmony in the different rooms and floors of your home.

Japanese technology

“Hot Gas Pipe” System (patented)
The outdoor compressors of THU heat pumps have been developed with the patented “Hot Gas Pipe” technology. To ensure efficient heating down to an outdoor temperature of -27 oC, this SHARP technology ensures the condensation holes are freed from ice and debris. This flow perfects defrosting without reducing energy efficiency.

Defrosting
When the heat pump is set to defrost mode, the machine circulates hot gas to the condensation tray of the heat exchanger. This helps prevent the accumulation and freezing of drainage water. The water is then drained through the drainage holes in the condensation tray.

Multiple drainage holes
A simple yet effective way to prevent freezing of the outdoor compressor water is to improve drainage. SHARP compressors are equipped with multiple drainage holes that allow the condensation tray to drain more efficiently.

Anti-corrosion coating
SHARP compressors are coated with a special anti-corrosion product applied to various parts of the unit. This coating improves the long-term durability and reliability of the device, allowing us to offer an excellent warranty on all SHARP products.

Inverter technology
- SHARP heat pumps are designed to save energy while delivering excellent performance. It is therefore essential that all SHARP heat pumps sold by AirGreen feature SHARP's Inverter technology. An inverter circuit in the compressor can control and maintain room temperature. It allows inverter heat pumps to run continuously by varying airflow. Non-inverter heat pumps must constantly turn off and restart, greatly increasing energy consumption.
- Inverter systems switch to energy-saving mode as soon as the desired indoor temperature is reached. Using high-power DC motors for the outdoor unit and a pulse linear expansion valve, SHARP heat pumps consume less energy for the same airflow.
- Inverter heat pumps can operate at full power when needed but can often be set to energy-saving mode without affecting cooling or heating performance. Indoor temperature remains much more consistent, providing superior comfort for occupants.
Other useful operating modes

"Auto Changeover" function
- During intense cold or hot seasons, the system operates in heating or cooling mode like any other heat pump. However, there are seasons with significant temperature fluctuations where you may need to heat at times and cool at others.
-
To simplify operation and enhance your comfort, SHARP systems feature an "Auto Changeover" function that allows you to select a desired room temperature without having to switch between heating and cooling. The heat pump will switch modes automatically based on temperature changes.
- Note that this feature is not available for multi-zone systems.

Self-cleaning mode
- Another hidden benefit of Plasmacluster technology is the ability that the ions give the device to resist mold inside the heat pump or air conditioner. Using a heat pump inevitably leads to the development of various molds. To counter and minimize the long-term damage caused by mold, SHARP devices use a function that recirculates air and Plasmacluster ions inside the heat pump. This self-cleaning operation is effective in preventing and destroying mold and the odors associated with it. It is one of the multiple technologies that SHARP systems use to remain functional and extend their lifespan.

"Winter Cool"
- SHARP heat pumps manage to perform tasks where other brands have to stop working. In some exceptional cases, there may be a need to cool a room even if the outside temperature is not very high. For example, hot water rooms or rooms where computer servers are kept must avoid overheating. The "Winter Cool" mode allows SHARP air conditioners and heat pumps to be used in cooling mode down to outdoor temperatures of -10 oC.
"Spot Air"
- If you prefer to prioritize immediate comfort in a specific part of a room or space, you can do so using the "Spot Air" button on your SHARP heat pump or air conditioner.
- The space in front of the indoor unit is divided into six zones. You can select a targeted zone with the remote control. Only the selected zone is quickly cooled or heated, allowing you to save on your energy consumption when you don’t need to air condition or heat your entire home.

"Auto Restart"
- When you install and use a heat pump or air conditioner, power outages are almost certain to occur while your system is running. The SHARP heat pump is equipped with an automatic restart function.

Fast defrost function
- With the winter seasons in Quebec, the outdoor units of heat pumps sometimes need to perform a defrosting function. When the heat pump carries out this task, heating is suspended inside. SHARP systems allow you to shorten the defrosting time by 60%, resulting in better maintenance of the ambient temperature and preserving your comfort.

"Auto Cutoff"
- A valid and important concern for Quebecers installing a new heat pump is the device’s operation in winter. Depending on the chosen model, there is a limit outdoor temperature (-15 oC, -25 oC, etc.) after which the system should no longer operate. Generally, it is desirable to turn off the heat pump when it is too cold outside.
- SHARP offers a better solution. The TU and THU series heat pumps automatically shut off without customers having to worry about doing so. When the temperature drops below the device’s limit, the "Auto Cutoff" function automatically stops the system and prevents the drained water from freezing. The heat pump restarts automatically once the outdoor temperature rises to acceptable operating levels. This function saves you any concern and allows you to maximize your heat pump’s operating time, which will increase savings on your Hydro-Québec and Énergir bills.

Nature Wing: Fan Blades
You will notice a theme in SHARP products: the importance of nature and the environment in the design and performance of the products. This inspiration is again evident in the ventilation wings installed in the indoor and outdoor units.
Indeed, the indoor heads are equipped with fan blades shaped like dragonfly wings. This design improves air circulation by about 30% according to experiments conducted by SHARP comparing the amount of energy used to push airflow between a model with ordinary blades and models with dragonfly wings. These blades are included in the indoor units of all SHARP models and series.
Next, the best outdoor heads feature fan blades that combine the wing shapes of two animals: the golden eagle and the albatross. The slender wing of the golden eagle is ideal for controlling airflow, while the long wings of the albatross enhance air circulation power. According to tests conducted by SHARP comparing the amount of electricity needed to push a certain airflow, models equipped with bird wing designs improve air circulation by about 20%. Note that the bird wing design is only available on certain models of the TU series, the entire THU series, and some models of the ZU and ZHU series.

Hot gas line (patented)
Sharp has developed a new heating method that optimizes heat pump operation using a pipe that prevents the outdoor compressor’s drain holes from being blocked by ice and other debris during defrosting.
The hot gas line successfully protects the outdoor compressor from extreme weather conditions without needing to produce extra heating. Indeed, all heat pumps sometimes generate unused heat for indoor heating. What sets SHARP’s hot gas line apart is that it uses this unused heat to protect the compressor from ice and debris blockages. This technology allows THU heat pumps to reach an HSPF level of up to 13.5.
