Up to 2,000 CFM of water-heated air, with optional cooling

In a large house that already has ductwork, switching to hot-water heating does not mean giving up forced air. The Thermo 2000 VenTum 60 hydronic fan coil takes hot water from an electric boiler or an air-to-water heat pump and turns it into warm air, up to 2,000 CFM. It is the large size in the VenTum series: 3/4 HP ECM fan, 10 x 10 in wheel, 4-row copper coil measuring 15 x 22 x 3.5 in and built-in 3-speed circulator.

The large size in the VenTum series

The VenTum 60 is meant for good-sized houses, multi-storey homes in Laval or on the North Shore, and offices or small shops that already have ductwork. Its front digital controller manages 2 zones, displays status, temperatures and alarm codes, and allows a separate airflow for each mode: heating, cooling, ventilation, dehumidification. Airflow is set in 10 CFM steps, and a BOOST mode is available. An anti-freeze function takes over if the house thermostat fails.

In summer, an air conditioner or heat pump coil can be added as an option, with an outdoor unit. Thermo 2000 associates 3 tons of cooling with 1,200 CFM, 4 tons with 1,400 and 1,600 CFM, and 5 tons with 1,800 and 2,000 CFM.

Choosing the right operating point

The heat delivered depends on the water temperature and its flow. The manufacturer publishes its capacities with return air at 70 °F (21 °C). With 120 °F water, the VenTum 60 delivers 35,900 to 47,400 BTU/h at 3 GPM, and 40,000 to 56,000 BTU/h at 5 GPM, between 1,200 and 2,000 CFM. With 140 °F water at 5 GPM, the range rises to 59,100 to 87,500 BTU/h. The published pressure drop is 5 psi at 5 GPM. We therefore start from your source’s actual temperature to choose the water flow and the airflow, then check that the ductwork stays within the maximum external static pressure of 0.75 in. w.c.

The loop can hold water or a propylene glycol mix up to 50%, with water from 50 to 200 °F. The water connections are 3/4 in copper, soldered.

Installation and next steps

AirGreen installs the VenTum in Montreal, Longueuil, on the South Shore and throughout Greater Montreal, with electric boilers and air-to-water heat pumps. Our work includes:

  • the free on-site estimate and a written quote;
  • setting the unit, vertical or horizontal depending on the space, with the pre-cut return on the side that works;
  • connecting it to the water loop and the ductwork, and placing the supplied air temperature sensors;
  • setting the airflow for each mode and commissioning.

The unit weighs 120 lb and runs on 120 V single phase. The thermostat is not included. Sold alone, the VenTum 60 does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than 15 years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). Thermo 2000 warrants all VenTum parts and components for 2 years, under its terms.

01 · What it is for

Heating and cooling a large home from a water loop

The VenTum 60 turns hot water from an electric boiler or an air-to-water heat pump into warm air distributed through the ductwork. With an optional coil and an outdoor unit, the same unit blows cooled air in summer.

  • Large house with ductwork, heated by an electric boiler
  • Air-to-water heat pump heating in winter, with central air conditioning added by a coil
  • House where the controller needs to manage 2 zones
  • Office or commercial space already served by a duct network
Up to 2,000 CFM3/4 HP ECM fan, 10 x 10 in wheel, airflow set in 10 CFM steps.
Cooling up to 5 tonsWith the optional coil: 3 tons at 1,200 CFM, 4 tons at 1,400 and 1,600, 5 tons at 1,800 and 2,000, according to Thermo 2000.
Water or glycolWater or propylene glycol up to 50%, for water from 50 to 200 °F.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the VenTum 40 and the VenTum 60?

The VenTum 60 is the larger of the two: it goes up to 2,000 CFM with a 3/4 HP ECM fan, a wider coil and a 20 x 20 x 1 in filter. It is aimed at large homes and small commercial spaces.

Does the water flow change the heat delivered?

Yes. With 120 °F water, Thermo 2000 states 35,900 to 47,400 BTU/h at 3 GPM, and 40,000 to 56,000 BTU/h at 5 GPM, from 1,200 to 2,000 CFM. We set the water flow according to your source.

How many tons of cooling can it distribute?

With the optional coil and an outdoor unit, the manufacturer associates 3 tons with 1,200 CFM, 4 tons with 1,400 and 1,600 CFM and 5 tons with 1,800 and 2,000 CFM.

Can glycol be used?

Yes. The manufacturer approves water or a propylene glycol mix up to 50%. This is useful when part of an air-to-water heat pump loop runs outdoors.

What power supply is required?

120 V, 60 Hz, single phase. The 3/4 HP ECM fan and the 1/25 HP circulator both run on this voltage.

How does the warranty work?

Thermo 2000 warrants all VenTum parts and components for 2 years, in Canada and the United States. A repaired part stays covered for the rest of the original period; removal, reinstallation and shipping are paid by the buyer.
