Repair of a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump in Plateau-Mont-Royal

A service call in the city center

At AirGreen , we often receive calls from customers living in apartment buildings in the heart of Montreal , particularly in the Plateau-Mont-Royal , where outdoor units are often installed on small balconies or terraces.
That day, a Plateau resident contacted us about a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump that refused to start, despite an indicator light still being on on the indoor unit.

On-site inspection: constraints of a narrow balcony

The installation was located on the third floor, on a narrow balcony typical of buildings in the Plateau , with an outdoor unit securely fixed to a metal support.
Upon arrival, our technician checked the security of the access before carrying out the electrical and refrigerant diagnosis .
A few observations quickly guided the diagnosis:

  • The outdoor fan would not start .

  • The compressor remained inactive despite a signal sent from the indoor unit.

  • Slight oxidation was visible on the connection terminals.

These clues pointed to a faulty control board or relay problem .

Step 1: In-depth electrical diagnosis

Using a multimeter, our technician measured the supply voltage. Result:

  • 240 V available at the compressor input.

  • But no output voltage to the fan.

This lack of voltage confirmed a burnt out starter relay on the electronic board .
The control board was carefully disassembled, cleaned with dry air, and then tested on our portable bench.

Step 2: Relay replacement and recommissioning

We replaced the power relay with a genuine Fujitsu part and then performed a full functional test :

  1. Power on and synchronize with the indoor unit.

  2. Checking the compressor and fan start-up .

  3. Suction and discharge pressure control.

  4. Measurement of the blowing temperature inside: 9°C, a sign of optimal cooling.

The outdoor unit has returned to stable and quiet operation , despite the constraints of a restricted urban environment.

Step 3: Recommended Preventive Maintenance

Taking advantage of the intervention, we carried out a complete cleaning of the external coil, often clogged with urban dust and debris.
We also checked the insulation of the refrigeration pipes , which are particularly exposed to UV rays and bad weather.

Recommendations to the client:

  • Schedule a professional cleaning every spring .

  • Check that the unit remains clear of any obstacles (plants, bags, tools).

  • Avoid covering the heat pump in winter with non-breathable tarps.

These simple actions ensure maximum energy efficiency and extend the life of the compressor.

A local service from AirGreen

This type of intervention perfectly illustrates the reality of urban installations: little space, but a lot of precision.
Our technicians are trained to work safely, even in demanding environments such as the balconies of the Plateau, the terraces of Mile-End or the narrow facades of Verdun .
Thanks to our experience, we guarantee fast, durable repairs that comply with Fujitsu standards .

A heat pump ready to face summer

At the end of the visit, the customer found a perfectly functioning system . His Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump now ensures constant comfort, whether in air conditioning or heating mode.
Once again, our rigorous approach has made it possible to avoid unnecessary replacement and to bring a device back to life while still performing well.
