Repair of a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump in Plateau-Mont-Royal

A service call on a green rooftop terrace in the heart of Montreal

Nothing sums up the Plateau-Mont-Royal better than its urban rooftop terraces adorned with planters and views of historic church towers. It was in this very setting that our AirGreen team was called to diagnose and repair a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump installed on the roof of a residential building.

The client, a condo owner, noticed that his system was no longer able to maintain a stable temperature. During hot weather, the air conditioner blew lukewarm air, and in heating mode, the heat pump would shut off after a few minutes.

Initial diagnosis: a worrying lack of performance

Our technician Marc arrived on site the next morning. Upon arrival, he observed a typical urban building installation , with a compressor resting on metal supports on the roof. The Fujitsu unit showed clear signs of wear and fine dust deposits—a common effect when the unit is exposed to wind and urban particles.

After a series of tests, the diagnosis was made:

  • Refrigerant pressure too low , indicating a possible slow leak.

  • Dirty evaporator coil , reducing heat exchange capacity.

  • Unstable electronic card , with micro-cuts affecting automatic restart.

Steps of repair: rigor and method

At AirGreen, every repair follows a comprehensive protocol, ensuring safety, durability and performance.

  1. Complete inspection of the refrigeration circuit.
We checked all connections to the electronic leak detector. A micro-leak was detected at the flare connection of the liquid hose.

  2. Repair the leak and refill the gas.
After tightening and leak testing, the circuit was put back under vacuum before a precise recharge with R-410A , the fluid recommended by Fujitsu for this model.

  3. Deep cleaning of the condenser and evaporator.
Using a biodegradable cleaner and low-pressure rinsing, we restored the device to its original efficiency.

  4. Replacement of the main electronic board.
The original card, which was prone to intermittent outages, was replaced with a Fujitsu-certified part. The internal parameters were then recalibrated.

  5. Final checks.
Air outlet temperature tests, pressure measurement and compressor current monitoring confirmed optimal operation.

Result: restored performance and comfort regained

After the intervention, the Fujitsu heat pump returned to impeccable performance . The customer could immediately feel a difference:

  • Indoor temperature stable at 22°C ,

  • Restored operating silence,

  • And above all, reduction of the compressor cycle time , a guarantee of energy efficiency.

Our technicians also took care to reposition the anti-vibration mounts, a detail often overlooked but essential to extend the life of the compressor on rooftop installations.

AirGreen Tips for Rooftop Installations in Montreal

HVAC systems installed on rooftop terraces require special attention:

  • Mandatory annual check to avoid gas losses caused by extreme thermal variations.

  • Condenser cleaning twice a year due to urban particles.

  • Protection from direct sunlight , using a screen or ventilated shelter.

These simple precautions not only help preserve system performance, but also significantly reduce energy consumption, especially in a climate as variable as that of Greater Montreal .
