Accurate diagnosis and rapid intervention: a typical AirGreen service call
At AirGreen , we work daily across the greater Montreal area to bring our customers' HVAC systems back to life. This service call in Sainte-Dorothée (Laval) involved a GREE wall-mounted heat pump that had stopped heating efficiently at the end of September—a critical time, just before the fall cold.
The context of the intervention
The customer contacted us after noticing that his heat pump, although new ( Livo GEN3 range, 12,000 BTU), was blowing lukewarm air despite a maximum heating demand. At first glance, the outdoor unit was working, but the heat exchange seemed inefficient. No error message was displayed on the remote control, but the compressor was emitting a slight intermittent clicking noise.
Our certified technicians were dispatched to the site the next morning to perform a complete system diagnosis .
Step 1: In-depth diagnosis
Our team started by checking the basics: refrigeration circuit pressure, electrical voltage, continuity of the temperature sensors and condition of the outdoor coil.
The verdict came quickly: an R32 refrigerant leak at the liquid line flare fitting. The leak, which was very small, had not generated any noticeable noise, but it had caused a gradual loss of performance and a drop in condensing pressure.
In order to avoid any contamination of the circuit, we have:
-
Precisely located the leak using an electronic gas detector ;
-
Depressurized the circuit according to environmental standards;
-
Redid the flare and tightened the fitting with a controlled torque;
-
Vacuumed for 45 minutes to ensure the system is perfectly sealed.
Step 2: Recharge and restart
Once the leak was confirmed, our technicians recharged the system with the exact quantity of R32 refrigerant prescribed by the manufacturer (0.78 kg). Start-up then allowed us to verify:
-
A temperature differential of 12°C between air inlet and outlet;
-
A discharge pressure in accordance with the nominal values;
-
Compressor stability without vibration or abnormal noise;
-
Normal flow of condensate.
Result: The GREE heat pump regained its full heating performance. The ambient temperature increased from 18°C to 22°C in less than 15 minutes.
Step 3: Prevention and advice to the client
Before concluding the intervention, our team took the time to explain to the client the preventive measures to avoid the recurrence of the problem:
-
Check every spring and fall that the internal filters are clean;
-
Never force defrost cycles in manual mode;
-
Avoid any obstacle within 50 cm around the outdoor unit;
-
Schedule annual AirGreen maintenance , which includes a pressure check, coil cleaning, and inspection of refrigerant connections.
We also recommended the customer subscribe to our AirCare maintenance program , offering priority monitoring and bi-annual inspections.
AirGreen Expertise: more than a repair, a functional refurbishment
This intervention, although classic, perfectly illustrates the expertise of our team:
