Installation of a Sharp (ZU1 range) wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

A compact condenser on wall brackets, designed for Montreal winters

At AirGreen , we design each HVAC installation as an engineering project applied to the comfort of our customers. In this brick plex in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie , we are installing a Sharp ZU1 series wall-mounted heat pump (new generation with R-32 refrigerant ), known for its stability in extreme cold . The goal: a four-season solution that is quiet, efficient, and perfectly integrated into the neighborhood's typical architecture.

Residence context and client objectives

The apartment is located on the ground floor of a brick triplex with a backyard. The owners are looking for:

  • efficient additional heating in winter and rapid cooling in summer;

  • a raised outdoor unit, protected from snow and the risk of splashing;

  • a clean installation that respects the facade, the courtyard circulation and the peace and quiet of the neighborhood.

Why the Sharp ZU1 range for Rosemont

Sharp 's ZU1 range offers:

  • lower GWP R-32 refrigerant , aligned with current standards;

  • stable operation in cold weather ( extreme cold design), ideal for Montreal;

  • inverter compressor finely modulating power;

  • reduced noise level on the condenser and evaporator side;

  • performance certification allowing eligibility for grants where applicable.

This combination directly meets the needs of a Rosemont plex: close party walls, narrow aisles, and the need for a quiet and economical device.

Condenser location selection: safety, clearances and service

We fix the condenser on sturdy galvanized brackets , approximately 60–75 cm from the finished floor . This height:

  • keeps equipment out of the winter snowpack ;

  • reduces the suction of dust and debris;

  • facilitates the flow of defrost ;

  • frees up floor space for yard maintenance.

Clearances are maintained on the sides and rear to ensure optimal airflow . The sole is fitted with anti-vibration pads to ensure the peace and quiet of occupants and neighbors.

Refrigeration and drilling

The refrigeration path is deliberately short . We make a clean hole through the brick and block, with a sleeve and external sealant resistant to freeze/thaw cycles. The refrigeration pipes are high-density insulated and capped up to the inlet, with a drip loop to prevent infiltration. The estimated total length between the indoor head and the condenser is in the range of 3–5 m , which optimizes pressure losses and seasonal efficiency .

Electrical connection and protection

Near the condenser, we install the safety switch (disconnect) required by the code. The wiring follows a mechanically protected route, with stainless steel anchors. The rating and circuit breaker protection are calibrated according to the Sharp nameplate. All ground connections and crimps are verified.

Commissioning methodology: AirGreen rigor

Our standard protocol includes:

  1. Torque-controlled flaring with calibrated tools.

  2. High pressure nitrogen test to validate the seal.

  3. Deep vacuum (≤ 500 microns), stabilization and vacuum resistance test.

  4. Opening of valves , load balancing according to actual length.

  5. Functional checks : currents, subcooling/superheating, supply/return temperatures.

  6. Calibrating the wall head airflow and configuring quiet modes .

Winter management: defrosting and clearing

Installed on the rear facade, the unit benefits from:

  • a very slightly inclined platform for the evacuation of defrosting water;

  • of a free space under the condenser to prevent the formation of ice;

  • a careful distance from the fence and plants, to preserve air recirculation .

If the roof presents a risk of falling ice, we can add a snow guard or a deflector (option recommended depending on each case).

Interior comfort and energy performance

The wall-mounted head inside diffuses a uniform flow with a wide-range motorized shutter . Inverter modulation reduces starts/stops , which:

  • stabilizes the temperature smoothly;

  • reduces electricity consumption ;

  • extends the life of components.

In summer, dehumidification improves the feeling of freshness. In the off-season and in winter, reversible heating covers the majority of the home's heating needs, particularly in living areas.

Noise and neighborhood

Silent blocks and low-frequency modulation limit vibrations transmitted to the wall. The Sharp ZU1 series condenser offers a contained sound level , a crucial point in the narrow courtyards of Rosemont where acoustics reverberate between buildings.

Aesthetics and durability of the facade

The hoods and fasteners are chosen to match the brick and façade fascias. The anchors are installed in the sound masonry , with suitable sealing. We apply anti-corrosion protection to the cuts and fasteners if necessary. An annual inspection of the screws and joints is recommended to maintain the integrity of the envelope.

Grants and Compliance

The combination of R-32 , high seasonal performance and inverter technology makes this system eligible for several financial assistance programs when they are in effect. We support our clients in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, North Shore and South Shore to compile files, verify criteria (power, operating temperatures, efficiencies) and maximize available assistance .

Recommended preventive maintenance

To maintain performance and longevity :

  • cleaning the inner head filters every 1–2 months during peak season;

  • gentle rinsing of the external battery in spring to remove dust and pollen;

  • annual check by AirGreen: pressure, electricity, defrosting, sealing, drains, tightening;

  • clearance of at least 60 cm around the condenser at all times (snow, bins, objects).

Result: a clean, robust and efficient installation

The Sharp condenser, mounted on wall brackets , frees up floor space, remains snow-free , and guarantees reliable operation in winter. The short cooling path and thoughtful layout provide excellent seasonal efficiency . Occupants benefit from stable comfort , lower consumption , and a discreet system, perfectly suited to the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie plexes .
