Installation of a Sharp ZU1 series wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie
Installation of a Sharp ZU1 series heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie: HVAC installation on brackets, discreet capping, external disconnect switch and reliable performance in winter, carried out by AirGreen.

In summer, the outdoor unit rejects the house's heat outside.
Generic illustration of this type of installation, not a survey of this job site. Tap a number.
Mounted level on a wall plate, high enough for the air to reach the whole room, with enough space around it to slide the filters out easily.
The refrigerant lines, the communication cable and the drain go through the wall in a single opening, sealed against water, cold air and insects.
Two insulated copper pipes connect the two units. Outside, a line cover can protect them from sun, knocks and weather.
A shut-off switch near the outdoor unit isolates it safely for service. It must stay accessible at all times.
The compressor and the fan. In heating mode it captures heat from the outdoor air, even in winter, and moves it inside.
On the ground or on the wall, it keeps the unit above accumulated snow. The unit stays clear and defrost water can drain away.
The fan needs to blow freely. Storage, a fence or a wall too close, and efficiency drops while noise goes up.
Careful installation on a brick facade for four-season comfort
At AirGreen , we are working in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie to install a Sharp ZU1 series wall-mounted heat pump. The typical building in the area— brick facade, wood-paneled openings, and ventilated eaves—requires a precise approach to ensure performance , silence , and durability in the Montreal climate .
Background, device choice and comfort objectives
The owner wants an energy-efficient system that can efficiently heat at low temperatures and evenly cool the main rooms. The Sharp ZU1 series (R-32 refrigerant) meets these expectations thanks to:
-
an inverter compressor finely modulating the power;
-
reliable heating down to −25°C (depending on capacity);
-
improved air quality through multi-layer filtration;
-
reduced consumption compared to conventional electric heating.
We offer adapted sizing (9,000 to 18,000 BTU depending on the main room and insulation) as well as flow calibration to limit temperature variations and air currents.
Installation details: precision on a sensitive facade
Wall mount and vibration management
We mount the condenser on galvanized steel brackets above the snow line. Anti-vibration pads reduce transmission to the brick wall and limit resonance inside. The under-eaves installation protects the unit from vertical precipitation while maintaining the required clearances for suction and discharge.
Refrigerant connections and route aesthetics
The refrigeration lines and communication cabling follow a short, straight route , enclosed in UV-resistant grey casing . The bends are arranged to maintain a minimum radius and avoid any stress on the insulated tubes . We ensure penetration into the masonry with a staged drilling , a fire-resistant ring and a brick/wood compatible elastomeric sealant to ensure watertightness and prevent infiltration.
Power supply and safety
Near the unit, we install an outdoor disconnect switch that complies with the Quebec Electrical Code , connected to a dedicated circuit from the indoor panel. Connections are checked to the prescribed torque and identified for easy maintenance. This arrangement allows for quick recording during service interventions.
Condensates and winter period
In cooling , condensate drainage is gravity-driven, with a controlled slope to prevent stagnation near the window frame. In winter defrosting , the clearance under the unit prevents ice from accumulating on the masonry. If necessary, we provide a discreet deflector to channel the flow away from passage areas.
Measured results and benefits for the client
-
Stable comfort in living rooms, without overheating or jolts thanks to inverter control .
-
Minimal exterior noise : the anti-vibration mounting and the position under the eaves reduce perception from the courtyard side.
-
Optimized consumption : the heat pump covers the majority of heating needs during the off-season and into the heart of winter, which lowers the overall bill.
-
Clean finish : the gray capping blends in with the brick and woodwork, while protecting the connections.
-
Easy maintenance : direct access to the disconnector, clearances respected, service points cleared.
What we systematically check on this type of site
Integration into architecture
We favor short lines that are consistent with the lines of the facade. The fixings in the brick are made with suitable anchors , and the joints are properly repaired for a durable finish.
Cold performance
The ZU1 series maintains high efficiency at low temperatures; we validate the refrigerant charge (when additions are required depending on the length of the lines) and the superheat/subcool during commissioning to guarantee efficiency in Montreal winters .
Indoor air quality
On the indoor unit side, we educate the customer about HVAC maintenance : periodic cleaning of filters , annual inspection of the battery and fan , checking of drains and the hood to maintain the nominal flow rate and air purity .
Practical advice for owners in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, North Shore and South Shore
-
Installation height : on the facade, aim for sufficient clearance for snow and defrost , without sticking the condenser to the soffit.
-
Mechanical protection : Consider a snow guard or screen if the unit is located under an ice fall zone.
-
Energy saving : for heating, program a stable setting (e.g. 21°C) and avoid frequent variations which put unnecessary strain on the compressor.
-
Annual maintenance : professional cleaning of the external battery and checking of the connections ensures longevity and maintains the advertised COPs .
-
Grants : depending on the configuration and effectiveness chosen, the project may be eligible for current programs (e.g. LogisVert ). We support our clients in preparing files for Montreal, Laval , Longueuil , North Shore and South Shore .

And at your place?
Two quick checks with real numbers: what heat costs, and what your current heaters add up to in BTU/h.
Baseboards and electric furnaces turn 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat. A heat pump delivers more: that is its COP. At Hydro-Québec’s rate D (11.142¢/kWh above 40 kWh a day, since 1 April 2026):
Hydro-Québec: a heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than baseboards for heating in the colder months.
Estimate per kWh of heat, at the chosen temperature, using the certified COP from the product page. Taxes, access charge and backup heat not included.
Conversion: 1 W = 3.412 BTU/h. An indication, not a load calculation: baseboards and furnaces are often stronger than the real need, and they can stay as backup. AirGreen confirms the capacity on site.
