Installation of a Gree wall-mounted heat pump in Plateau-Mont-Royal

In this charming apartment in Plateau-Mont-Royal , the owners wanted a heating and air conditioning system that was discreet, efficient and well suited to the particular configuration of the premises: a central wooden staircase connecting the floors, with a narrow landing and rooms opening onto the hallway.

We recommended the installation of a Gree wall-mounted heat pump , strategically positioned above the staircase to ensure optimal air distribution throughout the floor.

A central staircase as the heart of the house

The photo shows a light wood staircase with a matching railing, framed by white walls and a French-style glass interior door. This type of layout is very common on the Plateau.

  • narrow corridor

  • rooms that open on both sides,

  • staircase which naturally concentrates the circulation of hot and cold air.

Rather than installing the heat pump in a single room, we chose the upper landing , directly above the stairs. This positioning allows for:

  • to blow the air-conditioned air towards the hallway and adjacent rooms;

  • to allow heat to descend by gravity to the lower floor in winter;

  • to maintain a more uniform temperature throughout the dwelling.

Choosing a Gree wall-mounted heat pump

For this project, we opted for a high-efficiency Gree wall-mounted heat pump .

Why a wall-mounted heat pump?

  • Ideal solution for existing homes without ducts;

  • Quick and minimally intrusive installation;

  • Excellent balance between comfort, energy saving and quiet operation ;

  • High-performance heating mode to cope with Montreal winters, with integrated air conditioning in the summer.

The Gree wall-mounted heat pump installed here offers a capacity perfectly suited to a typical Plateau apartment floor, with excellent temperature control. The display shows 22°C , the comfort temperature chosen by the client.

Installation details: height, clearances and safety

The indoor unit is installed high up, just below the ceiling , in a recess above the staircase. This choice meets several technical and comfort criteria.

Installation height

  • Hot air tends to rise: positioning the heat pump near the ceiling allows for better management of stratification and redirection of air where it is needed;

  • The height complies with the clearances recommended by Gree to ensure good air circulation and easy maintenance;

  • The unit does not obstruct movement on the stairs or the opening of doors.

Blowing direction

The Gree heat pump louvers are oriented so that:

  • avoid a direct draft on the stairs, which could be uncomfortable;

  • direct the air along the corridor, gradually distributing it towards the rooms;

  • take advantage of the chimney effect of the staircase: warm air in winter can descend to the lower level, while cool air in summer diffuses upwards to balance the temperature.

Aesthetic integration

The Gree wall unit blends in very well with the decor:

  • white finish that blends into light-colored walls;

  • perfectly level installation, with neat cladding around the ducts;

  • no annoying protrusions in the passage area.

The result: a system that is very discreet visually, but extremely present in terms of comfort.

Condensate management and refrigeration connection

Behind the unit, the refrigerant lines and condensate drain are enclosed and directed to the outside in a clean and safe manner:

  • insulation protected in duct covers;

  • adequate slope of the drain to evacuate condensation water in air conditioning mode, without risk of backflow or damage;

  • perforations minimized so as not to weaken the structure around the staircase.

This attention to detail ensures a durable, clean and worry-free installation for the occupants.

Four-season comfort for accommodation on the Plateau

Thanks to this Gree wall-mounted heat pump, the occupants now benefit from:

  • efficient heating in winter , even when temperatures drop;

  • of efficient air conditioning during the summer heat waves typical of Montreal;

  • a dehumidification mode useful during humid periods of spring and autumn;

  • quiet operation, ideal for a home where rooms are close together.

The stair landing thus becomes a key distribution point , allowing several rooms to be treated with a single unit, while reducing energy costs.
